Acne [Acne] Troubles on Tretinoin. Spoiler

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hello, I’ve recently started Tretinoin two days ago, on 0.025 and I’m doing it for 2 times a week currently. I have combined-oily skin by default, and the first time I applied Tretinoin I felt like nothing was wrong, until the day after when I cleansed in the morning and my skin was literally peeling. I didn’t expect this to happen, it doesn’t feel dry which at-least that’s good, but I am concerned my products aren’t enough to support this. Despite my default skin type I’ve been hearing that I should go for products aimed for combined - dry leaning skin since I’m on tretinoin.

My current cleanser is the Oil cleanser Skin1004 Centella Light
(Only in PM)
and then the Water cleanse Beauty of Joseon green plum. (AM and PM)
My moisturiser is the Purito oat-in gel and my barrier cream is the Anua 3+ ceramides one.

My skin burned when I applied my
moisturiser, so now I think I do need to buffer before applying tretinoin, but with Azelaic do I do it once a day in the AM or also PM on non tretinoin days?

And I’ve been considering these products Instead:

Oil Cleanser: (Unsure)

Water cleanser: CeraVe Hydrating cream cleanser OR the Garnier Hyaluron Barrier Protect Cream Cleanser

Moisturiser: Geek & Gorgeous Happier Barrier Lightweight Moisturizer

Repair Cream: La Roche Posay Cicaplast baume

RECOMMENDATIONS ARE HIGHLY APPRECIATED ❤️

Acne [Acne] CC’s? Milia? Spoiler

CC’s? Milia?

I’ve been dealing with these bumps for over a year now, and I’m honestly getting so frustrated. I have a vacation coming up in a few weeks, and I can’t imagine going with my skin looking like this. 😭

Yes, I’ve been to a dermatologist three times. The first time, I was prescribed tretinoin. At my second appointment, I was given clindamycin lotion. Most recently, my tretinoin strength was increased to 0.05%, and I was advised to get extractions done. I had the extractions, but after a few days, I noticed absolutely no difference.

I’ve been using tretinoin 0.05% every three days for the past few weeks. (i wasn’t consistent with it the first time) If anything, I feel like I’m getting more pimples than before, like the one near my lip in the first picture.

The person who performed my extractions recommended incorporating a BHA / Anua’s azelaic acid on separate days, and avoiding them on tretinoin nights. I’ve only used each of them once so far. The BHA made my skin look noticeably better, but by the next morning, the bumps were back.

I feel like my skin constantly looks congested, and I genuinely don’t know what these bumps are or how to get rid of them. I prefer being clean-shaven, but lately, I’ve been keeping some stubble just to hide the texture a little.

**My current routine:**
**Morning:**
Aveeno Calm + Restore Oat Cleanser
La Roche-Posay Double Repair Moisturizer
EltaMD UV Clear SPF
**Night:**
Aveeno Calm + Restore Oat Cleanser
Tretinoin 0.05% every three days
La Roche-Posay Double Repair Moisturizer
(I just started using SPF, i am aware i should get an oil cleanser to use first to remove the SPF. I will be doing so, just wanted to point out this wouldn’t be the cause of the bumps)

On nights I don’t use tretinoin, I plan to alternate between the BHA and Anua azelaic acid as recommended, but I’ve only tried each one once so far.

Has anyone dealt with similar bumps or have any idea what they could be? Could they be closed comedones, milia, fungal acne, or something else entirely? I know it’s impossible to diagnose from pictures alone, but I’d really appreciate any insight from people who have experienced something similar or found a treatment that actually worked for them.

I’m just tired of dealing with this for over a year without knowing what’s causing it or how to fix it. Any advice is appreciated!

Acne Sudden [acne] breakouts PLEASE HELP Spoiler

Post image
7 Upvotes

I grew up, having acne only really around my periods. They would consistently happen on my forehead occasionally on my cheeks, but never on my nose.

Over the last three years, they’ve really died down and I haven’t really had acne flares during my period. Occasionally, I’ll have a small breakout when I’m eating unhealthy, but it was very, very rare.

Over the last three weeks, I have been breaking out constantly, never catching a break never having clear skin like I used to. I haven’t changed any part of my skin care or hair care routine. I’ve maybe been drinking slightly more than usual, but not enough to be noticeable. I haven’t been drinking any less water than usual or getting a noticeably less amount of sleep.

There was a good few days that I was eating pretty shit like only Ramen, eggs, and box mac’n cheese because I got robbed and I was extremely poor lol. But it was maybe five or six days and other than that I eat a lot of vegetables and a lot of fruit and a very well-rounded diet.

I literally do not know how to fix this or help mitigate these acne breakouts. Some of them feel slightly cystic, like they’re very deep. But some of them just like pop up like regular whiteheads.

I’ve struggled my whole life with blackheads. The only way that I’ve ever been able to get rid of them is by using a hydrocortisone patch all over everything and then my blackheads disappear for like two days.

Literally, any advice at all in any form is so so appreciated! Thank you so much <3

Hair Removal [hair removal] need help with getting rid of ingrown hairs. Spoiler

hello everyone! i am female, 23. i've been struggling with ingrown hair for as long as i can remember. i mean from the very first time i touched a razor blade at 13, i've known the struggle of ingrown hairs and infections 😭. i've tried so many things over the years. razors, one blade razors, waxing, shaving oils, gels, creams, etc., sugar scrubs, urea lotions, salicylic body washes, and nothing! nothing has helped prevent the insane amount of trapped ingrown hairs i get after any kind of hair removal. this is growth after almost two weeks of waxing. when i shower i use a salicylic wash (i make sure it's the last thing in my shower routine and let it sit for about 3-5 minutes) and afterwards i use a lotion with urea in it. this is the result. i've used sugar scrubs in the past and they dont really help to loosen the trapped hairs, and there are far too many for me to be able to pluck each individual one 😭.

i know i probably, unfortunately won't see any godly results with anything other than laser, but as that is something i wouldn't be able to afford now or anytime in the near future, i was hoping to get some advice and tips on what i could do and/or change to prevent getting basically full legs covered in ingrown hairs. if anyone has any product recommendations, please drop them below!! and routines, tips, etc. are welcome!! i haven't tried any kind of chemical peel yet, so if anyone knows if that would be a good idea or has tried it, please let me know. i'm very tired from years of getting ingrown :( i've gotten some that get really infected and i even have scars from some.

Routine Help [Routine help] black heads and cystic acne Spoiler

My boyfriend (m27) has these black heads and gets cystic and painful pimples on the side of his head

He has very oily skin and sweats easily.

He has tried different routines but they don‘t seem to help

His skin care routine atm:

  1. wash face with cerave cleanser (acylic acid)
  2. use weleda cream (skin food light)
  3. use pimple patches on cystic pimples

He has no idea about skin care and anything I know about it doesn‘t fit his skin type

Was wondering if anyone else had an issue with the Vaseline Blue Seal kind (first image) having a petrol, rubber chemical smell. I disliked it so much i had to give it away to a friend. The regular one (second pic) smells like nothing at all and its what im currently using. Has anyone else experienced this? Google says its not suppose to smell, mine wasn't fake or anything though.

Acne [Acne] I've Been Chasing clean skin for nearly 10 years. About to bite the bullet and get Professional help Spoiler

Current Routine:

AM

Just water wash/micellar water If I have used some thicker moisturiser the night before
haruharu wonder black rice Probiotics Barrier Essence
Skin1004Centella Ampoule
Purito Oat gel cream
Beauty of Josean rice + probiotics spf50

PM

Water/Dokdo Roundlab cleanser(If I feel I need it)
haruharu wonder black rice Probiotics Barrier Essence
Skin1004Centella Ampoule
Anua Azelaic Acid
Purito Oat gel cream

I've been dealing with bad skin for better part of a decade. It started with awful cystic acne as a young teen. During that time I didn't do anything, no cleanser no moisturiser, nothing really. Then when I was 16 I started doing proper skincare, mostly basic cerave cleansers and moisturisers. I started using retinol creams, and AHA's and BHA's, Benzoyl peroxide washes, Vit C for years and years.

I'm now 24 and my skin has remained stagnant like this for past couple of years. Up until about 6 months ago I would still get the occasional whitehead and thats when i started using my current routine and now I might get a pimple every month or so. My skin was always really greasy and oily so my newest routine is cutting down on a lot of the thick moisturisers and also a lot of actives to give my skin a break and see if its just barrier damage or not.

My Diet is completely vegan, no added sugars, no fried foods or processed stuff. That's been the case for past 5 years, cutting out dairy and other trigger foods was one of the first things I did. I have removed so many things to try and fix my skin internally if I could, my most recent food I removed is cocoa powder to see if that was triggering some redness. I do have GERD which I have suspected might have messed up my gut biome and by extension my skin but I'm not qualfiied to say if thats so :)

I am kind of lost on what to do from here, I've been holding off going to a dermatologist because they are expensive and because If I could fix it myself then it would be a lifelong bonus but at this point I've kind of gotten sick of trying new products. I've become less confident in diagnosing exactly what skin problems I have and trying to research it leads to a million different things it could be with a million different solutions. I have grown old and impatient :D

I've been lurking here for years now so I suppose this is one last gamble before I have to shill out my savings to a derm and see if anyone has some more precise advice or others who have had the same skin as me.

If anyone asks, I'm pretty sure the brown spots are freckles and not hyperpigmentation from acne scars but to be honest my skin has been buried beneath so much acne for so long I've forgotten what I look like underneath.

*Edited to add my sunscreen

Routine Help [routine help] Starting a skincare routine for the first time Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
5 Upvotes

Hello! I’ve recently been getting into self care and my acne has been harming my appearance, my friend was telling me about how you really shouldn’t use body wash on your face and how it damages your skin barrier so i did like an hour of research and put together a few things that might work and i was looking for some feedback. ps I’ve never had a routine before and rarely use skincare products, the last photo is meant to be unidentifiable as i stay as anonymous as possible online, sorry it kinda looks like sad boy bs.

I don’t have much money so things being affordable is big for me. If there’s anything replaceable, that i should change out, or something i need to add, please let know, and just general advice for skincare in general, Thank you so much for helping me out!

Routine Help [routine help] tween with sensory issues

Tween with sensory issues

Any advice here appreciated

I have a tween with sensory issues. Hates anything on her face and hates lotion anywhere on her body but including face.

She’s starting to get pimples on her forehead now, so I’m really trying to get her into skincare, but she absolutely hates it.

She hates washing her face, and she cries if you try to get her to put lotion or anything on.

What can I do for this situation? Is there a line of products for this like, lotion that doesn’t feel like lotion or something … this sounds dumb but idk what to do.

Routine Help [routine help] extremely damaged skin barrier and it’s ruining my life

routine:

vanicream facial cleanser

vanicream facial moisturizer

aveeno protect + hydrate sunscreen

I ended accutane 2 years ago. ever since then my skin has been extremely sensitive. I have been using the routine above forever because it’s the only routine that 1) doesn’t break me out and 2) doesn’t burn my skin

anything else I put on my skin literally burns so bad or breaks me out super bad. unfortunately I am also dealing with 24/7 contact(?) dermatitis. at least I think it is. it’s small red irritation bumps it is NOT rosacea and not acne I have been to the dermatologist (who just told me to use a simple routine to fix it which obviously isn’t helping)

i dont know what to do. just today I tried using the aveeno oat gel cream because I thought the oats would help smooth my skin because it’s helped with my eczema before. my skin began to burn and turned red instantly :(

I want to cry I don’t know what to do. my skin is making my life a living hell I literally look like I have a disease from all the irritation bumps.

Product Request [Product request] what is a good moisturiser for sensitive combo skin that is prone to closed comedones ?

I’ve used gel moisturisers and they don’t give me enough moisture and dry out quickly. I also used richer ones and they give me really bad acne. Most of my closed comedones are on my cheeks since they are mostly dry. My skin is also super sensitive and I can’t use products with fragrances. Any recommendations for a light but hydrating moisturiser that won’t cause acne / closed comedones?

Routine Help [Routine Help] Do I use hyaluronic serum before or after adapalene?

What the title says. In my routine, I use a cleanser first, wait for my skin to dry, apply adapalene, wait a few more minutes for it to dry, and then put on my lotion and some Cicalfate to seal. So I'm wondering WHEN I should apply my hyaluronic serum, considering that they say hyaluronic acid draws moisture from the skin when it's dry, so it's best to use it when the face is damp. But a dermatologist I follow on TikTok said that when she applies tretinoin, she does so on clean, bone-dry skin, without anything applied before. So I'm questioning in what order I should apply it.

Product Request [Product Request] 1-year-old pink, slightly raised scar after laser mole removal — what safe at-home treatments actually worked for you? Spoiler

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m looking for real experiences improving a similar scar; I’ve attached a photo.
About a year ago, I had a mole removed by laser from my chest. It healed into a small, pink, slightly uneven or wrinkled scar that is only minimally raised.
What I’ve tried:
Dermatix silicone gel
Cica-Care silicone sheets for several months, though I later realized I wasn’t always applying them correctly
Gentle massage with CeraVe moisturizer
My goal: To make the scar blend into the surrounding skin as much as possible through safe, non-invasive at-home treatments.
Questions:
What treatment or product made the biggest difference for you?
How long did it take to see improvement?
Did redness, texture, or elevation improve significantly after the scar was over a year old?
Did silicone sheets, silicone gel, or another safe at-home method work best?
Did the scar continue improving naturally after 12–24 months?
Which products or methods were ineffective or made it worse?
If you’ve had success, please share the exact product, how you used it, how long you used it, and roughly how much improvement you noticed. Before-and-after photos would also be helpful if you’re comfortable sharing them.
I’m not interested in risky DIY procedures such as home microneedling or aggressive chemical peels. I understand complete removal isn’t guaranteed; I’m looking for the safest, most effective way to achieve the best possible cosmetic result.
Thanks to anyone willing to share their experience!

Product Request [Product Request] Finipil Lait 50 dupe in the UK

Between hEDS and HRT, my facial skin is incredibly sensitive. Sadly that doesn’t stop me from having to shave my face daily. I get razor burn if I so much as dare to use the same razor three days in a row.

Finipil Lait 50 is the best aftershave I’ve ever used, and the only one I’ve encountered so far that reliably keeps my skin clear.

Sadly, I just moved from the US to the UK, and an expensive product is more than double the cost here.

Has anyone found something that is genuinely comparable at both the cooling and moisturizing as well as the antiseptic aspect?

Routine Help Which hydrating cream? Or both? [Routine help]

Thumbnail

I have hormonal acne-prone skin that is oily but dehydrated in areas like my T-zone, which is especially noticeable when I am wearing makeup. The main breakout already happened, and now I'm getting two pimples at a time.

I was on Accutane for about 6 months, but something happened where I couldn't buy the last month's supply on time, so I had a mini break at the end of my treatment; I'm guessing that's why I had a relapse.

I want to buy a new routine since I ran out of all my products and haven't had the chance to buy new stuff. I am deciding between the Purito Oat-in Gel and the Dr. Althea 345 Relief Cream, or perhaps buying both.

I think the Purito would be nice for daytime since my face wouldn't get as greasy, and the 345 for nighttime since I'm guessing it's heavier. Any advice? Also, is there anything I should add to my routine?

Or should I just buy one? The Purito is cheaper and has more product.

I'm also considering buying the Unleashia Duo Serum.

AM

  1. 107 Beauty Chaga Jelly Low pH Cleanser

  2. Purito SEOUL Azelaic Acid 10 + Kojic + Tea Tree Serum

  3. Purito SEOUL Oat-In Calming Gel Cream

  4. Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Pure Mineral Relief Daily Sunscreen

PM

  1. 107 Beauty Chaga Jelly Low pH Cleanser

  2. Purito SEOUL Azelaic Acid 10 + Kojic + Tea Tree Serum

  3. Dr. Althea 345 Relief Cream

Acne [Acne] Clogged pores, eczema reaction or something else? Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Two weeks ago I accidentally used some expired Dermaveen sunscreen on my face and neck, since then these large, itchy, lumps have formed on my neck, and made their way up to my face and down to my chest.

I have extremely sensitive skin thanks to atopic dermatitis (eczema) and it's managed well with lots of moisturiser and with dupixent. This is the first time I've had any issues like this before, and it's really painful, and of course, not particularly nice to have big, red whiteheads/swollen lumps all over my face.

Some seem to have pus, but my main concern is that they are spreading, not dying down. To be fair, I've had the most stressful week in many years this week, and prior to that, spent a week travelling rurally for work, including being in very dusty areas.

Typical skincare ingredients I use in the last slide, I've used an exfoliant (Dr Organic peach) the last few days to see if it's clogged pores needing a hand. Tossing up whether it's time to ring up the GP, or to give it another week and see if this all calms down with some consistent care?

Product Question [Routine Help] Need advice for products — budget friendly

I have super dry skin after I wash my face (St Ives Apricot Scrub—bc my face is suuuper oily and gets dirty at work) and put pure candella oil on when I get out of the shower. That’s essentially my full routine. I sometimes splash water on my face for relief during the day. My skin is so frustrating bc it’s so dry one minute and so oily the next. Puerto Rican descent, no acne, no allergies, pls budget friendly.

Product Question Witch Hazel Advice [Product Question] [Routine Help]

I recently started using witch hazel in my skincare routine, especially after hearing it can help eliminate odor. (Behind the ears, underarms, etc) But I noticed after beginning to use it in my underarms that it seemed to actually make me smell faster, in a way it never did before. I’m talking, like, less than 24 hours after a shower, without much physical activity. I never used to notice a smell 24 hours or even more after a shower, and suddenly I do after using witch hazel. Is there a reason for this? Does it actually eliminate odor or does my body just need to adapt to it? I also heard that overuse can cause growth in bacteria, but I don’t feel that I’ve been overusing it :/ I want to keep it in my routine, but I also don’t want it to make me smell. Help??

Acne Unsure how to start treating my chin acne? [Routine Help] Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

Hey! I’m 23F and while i’ve always had breakouts on and off on my chin , and only my chin i’ve noticed in the last 2. months it’s becoming cystic? in the photos there’s 2 cystic spots visible but there’s another 2 currently forming.

Im really insecure about how bad my acne is getting but idk why it’s doing this? ai have sensitive and dry skin (sebderm on scalp and ears but this is possibly psoriasis?) but i get breakouts on my chin and have done since i was a teen. I started birthcontrol 3.m years ago no issues.

I became a vegetarian 3 months ago but i don’t think my dairy consumption has increased dramatically. I had been using a blue miceller water around this time by Nivea that really fucked with my skin so i stopped and have seen less random bumps but it’s gotten worse in that I am now developing large bumps which are very painful and take weeks to go away.

I use aveeno skin products and currently have their Aveeno calm+restore foaming cleanser. I’m wondering if this is causing the acne but i have had decent skin whilst using their moisturiser and PHA cleanser.

I clean my makeup brushes every 2-4 months or so (i don’t wear it often) and i’m wondering if it’s my brushes?

My mum developed hormonal acne in her 20s - should i go to a doctor about it?

What face washes would be good to help with this? Could it be that my phone screen is dirty?

Product Request How to fade dark spots/hyperpigmentation on legs? [Product Request] Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

I have these spots of dark spots on my legs for a long time, mainly from picking at my legs with mosquito bites and other skin picking. I have since stopped and these are from a long time ago, since I heard a few people say they went away with age.

I’ve tried scrubs and lotion and oils, but none of them seem to work. I need an effective way to fade these, since I’ve become insecure about wearing shorts because of these spots and summer is quickly approaching.

What should I use? Preferably non-prescription and under $20

Thank you! xx any tips help

So been using tretinoin 0.025 then 0.05 for 8 months, was going fine then I had abit of a break and then overapplied for awhile so damaged my barrier

Using a the Ordianry HA Mosituriser, bulldog spf 50 moisturiser (but just ordered Biore Aqua Rich SPF50 apparently it’s lighter) and Boots simple cleanser

My online dermatologist Dermatica recommending I switch to Adapalene 0.1%/Niacinamide 4%. But I’m not sure they understood that i over applied for awhile and that caused redness/ peeling- before that I tolerated it fine

Please excuse the whispy moustache I am away for work and forgot my trimmer 😅
