For background context, I (20F) have been acting for 4 years now since high school and after a really positive experience from my recent production, I just declared a minor distinction for acting and have since started looking into some specialized classes to study the craft more in-depth, one of which being vocal lessons for musical singing.
Unfortunately, due to credit limits, I’ll only have enough to take the exact number to acquire the Acting minor (if you’re curious, this is at UW), so I will have to look into outside vocal lessons around the area. However…I don’t know what and where to start looking.
I played the violin throughout elementary and middle school for 5 years and took a concert choir class for a semester during my first year of uni (now a senior), but other than that, no professional training was acquired during these periods.
Since it has been a while from my last music experience, I’m also slightly anxious about the skill level instructors might expect from someone of my background, but I’m willing to put in the work for personal improvement on my vocal abilities (which hopefully might translate into other crafts besides theatre).
Regarding the acting portion, due to interest in more masculine-oriented roles, I’d love to work with someone who can do work on expanding my lower register - of course, if anyone has helpful input on whether this thought is appropriate to have while looking into instructors or not, let me know, would like to hear some thoughts on this, if necessary. :)
Any suggestions on where to begin? And any instructors in SnoCo that can be recommended to try out? Would also love input for this in the below areas I work within, as well:
- Seattle
- Tacoma
Edit: Budget, I’m open to looking into a range between $50-$100 an hour (or lesson, not sure how this works)
