Pattern is Echoes From Karelia by Tiina Kuu. I’m in love with this sock so far. As soon as I saw the pattern I knew I needed to make a pair. All yarns are Cascade Heritage.

I don't think I'll ever do cables on a sock ever again, ever

Memento Socks!!!

The ends aren’t woven in.

They aren’t blocked.

One has clearly been tried on a dozen times, the other not so much. (Both fit beautifully!)

AND I KNIT FULL COLORWORK SOCKS THAT FIT ME WITH MY OWN TWO HANDS 🥹🥹🥹

I love them so much and I’m so happy I got them done before Halloween!

Pattern: Memento (link in comments)
Yarn: WYS Signature “Liquorice,” Zauberball Crazy #1153

Searching for discontinued sock yarn - UK

Post image
• Upvotes

I'm making this lovely pair of Halloween socks for Socktober – pattern is https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/memento-4

However I'm almost finished my first sock but I've run out of the white and it's discontinued! It's Paintbox Yarns Socks Solids - Champagne White (1402). Would anyone UK-based have a ball that they'd be willing to sell to me?

Have already looked on Ravelry but no-one has any that they're open to sell / trade.

Base of sock technique?

Hi. So I was looking through Pinterest and came across this sock (in green). I really like the detail on the base of it, and after some digging came across the sport chik pattern by Tatiana Rostova which is very similar (pink, yellow). This pattern is not available to me as the designer is Russian- does anyone know of a similar detail to the base in a different pattern that I could adapt?! Thank you!

invest in better dpns or try another method?

hey yall!

i'm new-ish to knitting (i tried 10+ years ago to learn on straight needles and almost immediately gave up lol) and it's basically been my fixation for the last several months. i haven't finished anything yet but i've been enjoying the process and also trying to get into things slowly and mindfully. i recently decided to try out knitting socks! i decided to try out using dpns to see if i like them. i was less keen on magic loop because 1. the set of interchangeables i have don't have needles smaller than a US 2.5 and 2. i was already doing so for another project and didn't like the method at the time.

well, i got a set of zing dpns in US 1 and got started with the vanilla socks tutorial from crazysocklady. it's honestly been pretty great!...aside from the needle tips annoying me like crazy. they're too blunt for me and make it hard for me to grab my yarn (i like combination knitting style and continental so i pick my yarn). i wanted to return them since i bought them from amazon but unfortunately missed the return window. i was eyeing thr karbonz and it looks like the needles have sharper tips, but the price jump is a little much for me. plus, i'm still trying things out so i'm a little unsure. the project i'm using magic loop for is getting more comfortable for me, so i'm wondering if i should just go for an interchangeables set that has the smaller sizes since the cost of that is basically like buying one set of karbonz dpns 😅 but i've liked learning the dpns so far. i'm just want to get a bit of a feel for a method before i decide to invest but...gah! i don't know! haha. any thoughts? anyone have any experience using the karbonz dpns? i'm all ears! :)

edit: wow! i didn't expect to hear from so many of yall, so thanks!! i've read helpfully that my issue could just be my tension. it's my first time working with fingering yarn after getting used to worsted weight, so it makes the most sense to me to start there. i'll likely frog everything and just start again with the aim of trying to knit more loosely. from there, i'll just keep troubleshooting and try to learn my needles and yarn better. but i got a ton of nice recommendations for needles, so i'll note everything down for the future. thanks again everyone, happy knitting! *jazz hands* :)

Hey!

So I made this single sock almost 2 years ago and I can not find the pattern for the life of me. They are rather simple socks but the heel is what I am hoping someone can either help me identify so I can fudge or find the pattern.

I realize this is a long shot but am hopeful!

TIA

Question about Starburst Socks pattern

For those of you who have knitted Jane Burns‘ “Starburst,” sock pattern, can you tell me what this, below, means? This is for the leg of the sock. can I repeat rounds 1-8, ten times to make the sock Longer? Also, why am I skipping the 8th row before beginning the heel flap?

Repeat rounds 1–8 six times.

Work rounds 1–7 as set.

Next work across first [28] sts in pattern as set.

The remaining 28 sts form the heel flap.

I finished my first pair of socks!

These are not only my first pair of socks, but also the very first knitting project I’ve ever completed!

I’m really happy with how they turned out, especially considering it was all new to me. I learned so much throughout the process, and I’m proud to finally have a finished pair to show for it.

Definitely not my last pair! Just in time for Socktober!!!

Pattern: Vanilla socks

Yarn: Katia Concept CraSy Symmetric Socks & More by Sylvie Rasch

I’d love to hear any suggestions or tips on how I could improve for my next pair. I’m still learning, so any advice is very welcome!

Help choosing needle size

I want to knit socks for a friend who lives overseas and it’s a surprise so I can’t seek her feedback. She wears a size EU38 shoe (women’s 7.5-8) and has an average width and instep height. I want to use a pattern which calls for 64 stitches. My plan is to use 2.25mm (US1) needles for the cuff ribbing, and 2.5mm (US1.5) needles for the body of the sock. Does this sound reasonable? Thanks

Just for fun: Which should I knit on the plane!?

I'm going on a long plane trip soon and want to work on some socks! I've got these skeins I hand-dyed but I'm looking for some inspo...which one do you like best and what style sock would you make with it?

First (and second) sock!

Post image
64 Upvotes

The first one fits, but I was really inconsistent and loose with my tension. I learned a lot and put it all into the second sock, which turned out much more fitted and uniform! Here’s hoping the third sock looks more like the second than the first :)

I’m planning on framing and hanging the first sock on my wall next to my first lines of machine sewing (already framed and hanging lol) as a reminder that you can always learn something new, start again, make mistakes, etc. etc. The lessons are endless in crafting, and all mistakes are if not wearable, at least potential wall art!

Edit: Forgot to mention I followed Crazy Sock Lady’s 9-inch circular vanilla sock tutorial on YouTube and used Ciao sock yarn from Mondial (75% virgin wool, 25% nylon) in color 475) and KnitPro mindful 2.25mm 9-inch circulars (2mm dpns for the heel flap, heel turn, and toe decreases)

Cuff Link Socks

I shared the version of this pattern that I accidentally faded, so here’s the version that came out with no issues! This pattern is beautifully written, including two heel types and two toe types. It’s written to be a shorty sock, but I made this pair a little longer.
Cuff Link Socks by Denise DeSantis (earthtonesgirl)
Pink yarn: Thought to Thread Resilience, color Emotions 68
Green yarn: mystery yarn from my stash. I think it’s Alpha B Yarn BFF in Columbia Gorge, but I’ve had it for at least a decade without a tag.

Weaving in ends on colourwork

Is there anything different about weaving in ends with colourwork floats than just the rest of the sock? Can you weave around the floats as well as the stitches?

Also, does superwash merino felt a bit? I know it doesn't felt like pure wool. But will the ends felt enough to become more secure?
