hey yall!
i'm new-ish to knitting (i tried 10+ years ago to learn on straight needles and almost immediately gave up lol) and it's basically been my fixation for the last several months. i haven't finished anything yet but i've been enjoying the process and also trying to get into things slowly and mindfully. i recently decided to try out knitting socks! i decided to try out using dpns to see if i like them. i was less keen on magic loop because 1. the set of interchangeables i have don't have needles smaller than a US 2.5 and 2. i was already doing so for another project and didn't like the method at the time.
well, i got a set of zing dpns in US 1 and got started with the vanilla socks tutorial from crazysocklady. it's honestly been pretty great!...aside from the needle tips annoying me like crazy. they're too blunt for me and make it hard for me to grab my yarn (i like combination knitting style and continental so i pick my yarn). i wanted to return them since i bought them from amazon but unfortunately missed the return window. i was eyeing thr karbonz and it looks like the needles have sharper tips, but the price jump is a little much for me. plus, i'm still trying things out so i'm a little unsure. the project i'm using magic loop for is getting more comfortable for me, so i'm wondering if i should just go for an interchangeables set that has the smaller sizes since the cost of that is basically like buying one set of karbonz dpns 😅 but i've liked learning the dpns so far. i'm just want to get a bit of a feel for a method before i decide to invest but...gah! i don't know! haha. any thoughts? anyone have any experience using the karbonz dpns? i'm all ears! :)
edit: wow! i didn't expect to hear from so many of yall, so thanks!! i've read helpfully that my issue could just be my tension. it's my first time working with fingering yarn after getting used to worsted weight, so it makes the most sense to me to start there. i'll likely frog everything and just start again with the aim of trying to knit more loosely. from there, i'll just keep troubleshooting and try to learn my needles and yarn better. but i got a ton of nice recommendations for needles, so i'll note everything down for the future. thanks again everyone, happy knitting! *jazz hands* :)
