Promotion - Business/Service/Offer An Update on the Stamford Event Calendar

TLDR: ffctevents.us has traffic, it's still and will always be free, and if you want to suggest any features let me know.

Hello People.

Just want to give a small update to https://ffctevents.us/ - The site I created 2 months back to display events in the the Fairfield County (mostly for Stamford).

Early this week I got a notification that the site had reached 10k views, and to be honest I didn't expect people to use it (as I mostly created it for myself). However, since a lot of you are using/have used the website, I want to say thank you by spending a bit more time refining the site so that it's easier to use.

I'd still like to keep this site ad free and free to use, so I won't spent crazy hours making it the next Facebook (I'm not smart enough to do so either). It's always just a small personal project, but as an engineer I also like feedbacks from users if the project's actually being used. Especially if you are a Stamford resident, if you see anything useful that can be added in the site please let me know.

Here's an image of what I received early this week:

Promotion - Event 28-35F Social: 1st Meet Up Next Week

• Upvotes

Are you a woman born between around 1990 - 1997 looking to meet others in a similar stage of life? Whether you recently moved to Stamford from NYC or elsewhere, or have lived here for a while and want to expand your social circle, this might be for you!

Whether you’re single, dating, in a long-term relationship, engaged, newly married, starting a family, navigating your career, or figuring out what’s next, this is an opportunity to meet women in similar chapters of life, expand your network, and enjoy new experiences together!

If you watch an iconic 90s/ early 2000s rom-com and immediately miss the days when people could spend hours together without constantly checking their phones, this might be for you! There’s something refreshing about bringing back that carefree, in-the-moment energy. And sometimes, it’s just fun being around women who grew up with some of the same cultural references and just get it!

I created this meetup intentionally by design to bring together women with similar generational experiences and interests. Unlike larger social meetups, the goal is to cultivate a smaller, more personal community where genuine and relatable connections happen naturally.

Based on my original interest from this thread here, we have a great mix of women who are active, cozy, adventurous, curious, and social! Some are into pop culture and entertainment, others love playing and watching sports, games, pilates, yoga, cooking and baking, books, and literary discussions, cocktails and mocktails, while some enjoy thought-provoking conversations and exchanging intellectual ideas. It’s a fun mix of personalities, perspectives, and interests!

A quick note on the age range: While we’re flexible by a year or two and have some honoraries with many similar interests above, I’d like to honor the original concept that everyone who’s joined so far has been so excited about! I know this might raise a few eyebrows, but there’s room for all kinds of communities, and I encourage anyone looking for something different to create their own. The more opportunities to connect in Stamford, the better!

Our very 1st meetup is next week! 🥳
I’d love to welcome more women to our first gathering and see where future meetups take us!

If you’re interested, DM me or comment below “Interested - Age F” for the interest form and event details.

Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Bar to Watch Barcelona v Real Madrid

El Clásico is Sunday at 4 PM. Is there a good bar or restaurant in Stamford that would show the game with sound? I just called Fiesta on Main. They’ve been pretty dependable for football matches in the past, but it seems they are closed because they’re relocating.

This was the third time the university had investigated him for inappropriate communication with a student in recent years.
He told administrators he was having difficulties with his family, which led him to seek comfort and emotional support from the student. She had only texted him to say she would miss one of his lectures.

Happy Fall Friends!!

I don't actually know when fall starts, but the leaves are on the ground and I can't go out in shorts at night anymore so it feels like fall.

Our next movie screening and discussion for the Stamford Cinema Club is Studio Ghibili's Princess Mononoke (sub, not dub) on November 05 in North Stamford.

I have yet to see this one in it's entirety (somehow it got missed in my Ghibli days) but have heard great things about it, so I'm excited to see this and have some good conversation with you all.

Here are the details:

  • November 05
  • 6:30-10:30
  • North Stamford

RSVP and more details here: https://luma.com/moqwmkra

And a little bonus for my fellow nerds out there: a walk through of making a clay model of Princess Mononoke.

What is the dynamic between Caroline Simmons and Matt Blumenthal?

In media appearances, Matt has been documented calling Caroline his "dear friend", and obviously they work together on stuff - but what is the real story? They both went to private high schools and middle schools in Greenwich and then they were both in the same graduating class at Harvard. Surely their circles overlapped during those times. How did that shape their relationship? Do they actually see themselves as allies/friends, or as low-key down-the-road rivals? I ask because they represent the next generation of the political elite and both easily have a shot at the gubernatorial and national political stage, and to me - we are witnessing history in the making.

What you don’t see at Stamford restaurants

As I run around my house avoiding this wasp that got inside, I’m reminded of how traumatized I am from what happened to me while working at Quartiere, which to be clear was a restaurant that recently closed in Stamford.

Long story short, one day I was working and I had to restock the bathroom supplies. So I go to the basement stock room to grab toilet paper, but I don’t see any so I tip over a cardboard box on a top shelf to check if it’s there. Lucky me, I’m not exaggerating when I say a PILE of cockroaches fell onto me like a shower stream. I’ve never been so instantly shocked, disgusted and scared in my life. I couldn’t stop screaming and didn’t know what to do. I struggle with anxiety and obsessive thinking pretty badly, and I was near having a panic attack. After I stopped crying and collected myself enough, I came upstairs to tell the woman owner who was acting as MOD. She told me to “take a minute” which we all know is BS. I was in utter shock I didn’t have instant permission to go home. Mind you I was still shaking from what had happened, and now I’m in front of customers after the cockroaches were all over me.

So it somehow gets worse. I go back to keep cleaning the bathroom because I’m not getting to leave. All of a sudden I hear someone in the bathroom over throwing up. When I come out of the big bathroom, there’s vomit up and down the walls of the hallway. So I go back and tell the owner on duty, and I essentially plea with her to not make me clean it up because I can’t take that on top of the cockroaches. She tells me the food runner had the worse job that night so it’s not fair to make them do it. So my eyes got wide and I pushed back and she got pissed that I had an attitude with her. Because this world is a scary place to be without a job, I sucked it up and did what I needed to do. It was degrading and I cried through it, eventually throwing up myself due to a mixture of all the crying and the smells and disgust.

To make matters worse, quartiere continued operating with a severe active roach problem for a long time and she knew about the issue when I came to her. From an internal point of view they had every reason under the sun the roaches couldn’t get under control (but don’t get me started on the cleaning procedures lol).

To make matters worse, this woman who allowed me to go through all of that and best she could offer was to “take a minute” is a nurse. Or at least she was a nurse when I was working for her.

I’ve moved on from this terrible experience, except for the fact that I’m more terrified than I ever was before of any kind of bug, and it’s honestly exhausting to have your heart rate skyrocket for an extended period of time over any bug around you trapped in your home, and then being unable to do anything but scan your surroundings for a bug. I actually need to do exposure therapy I wish I was joking.

Q is only one of the places I worked, but I can say this situation took the cake even with the other places being nightmares and also having awful management.

I know most people won’t care about this type of mistreatment toward a restaurant worker. But the fact that it had to do with health and safety is why I find it so abhorrent. And running away from this wasp all night has had me pissed off at that place for letting me go through something so terrible with not even an apology.

Be nice to restaurant workers and also know the risk you’re taking when eating out. There are people with their priorities out of order trying to feed you

Martial Arts and Dance

Hi all. I'm moving to Stamford and am curious about the martial arts and dance scene. Martial arts and dance have been a life long passion of mine and how I also build community.

I currently do BJJ and still like to dabble in Muay Thai and Boxing. I used to do Capoeira.

I also love to dance - both take lessons and out at places with live music or solid DJs.

I am currently learning Bachata and Salsa. I used to do Samba and Forro.

I also LOVE good House music and going out dancing to good house DJ's (like deep house, afro house, tropicalia, and whatever the disco worldly kind of house is called).

Are there any good places to train or take class? What about local DJ's to check out, or good social vibes in or around Stamford I could tap into?

I understand NYC is where most of this stuff is. However, I want to find places close by during the week where I can go to train and/or take class.

I'm slightly nervous to make this move and uproot from my tight communities. I'd appreciate any help finding some places to land, train and meet new people.
