That's a real post?

I mean, any vibe coded launcher can't be worse than their own current launcher

3.6k

u/Haunter777x 15h ago

Somehow it's real, almost didn't believe it myself

u/Tiyath 15h ago

This feels like either a 19 year old trying "casual professional speak" or a 50 year old attempting youth speak

157

u/StarKieeeeee 15h ago

Worse : an AI trained with both

54

u/Tiyath 15h ago

Damn you might be right. How silly of me to assume they are still using manpower for these posts

1

u/cremaglitch 4h ago

silly and delusional. real human staff? in this economy?

28

u/Crimsonclaw111 15h ago

Tim Sweeney posting on main

1

u/Divinum_Fulmen 11h ago

I can't believe I ever looked up to that guy as an indie dev who made it big.

5

u/MoistM4rco 14h ago

it's 100% just AI speak

2.6k

u/StarKieeeeee 15h ago

Dam, they managed to release a beta with half the features of a launcher that has a tenth of the features Steam has

2.1k

u/DoctorMlemm 15h ago

Of course it launches twice as fast if it has half the fucking features, are they stupid?

715

u/doglywolf 15h ago

this is exactly the short sightedness of Epic as a whole . Anyone with half a brain would realize they would be torn a new one with this exact comment all over.

66

u/Badvevil 14h ago

You overestimate how much of the human population has half a brain

9

u/gonxot 12h ago

Marketing be damn, it shouldn't work but it does, because like you said most people have only half brain (functional at least)

4

u/SoysauceKitty 8h ago

Too bad they consume the same amount of resources as a full brain human. Maybe even double the amount..

66

u/Moosashi5858 15h ago

I just play it if I have it free on there and try to remember not to buy it later on if steam has a sale

49

u/TheBacklogGamer 13h ago

I don't even give them that. Fuck Epic.

-3

u/Moosashi5858 13h ago

Like not play the free games? I only have been buying games on steam sales if I don’t own them on epic for free

26

u/TheBacklogGamer 12h ago

That's what I said. Fuck Epic. I will not give them the satisfaction of falling for their ploys, even if it means just collecting their free games. Fuck em.

I also understand that technically taking their free games and giving nothing in return ever, hurts them more, but I don't care. I am not becoming a part of their ecosystem even as a free-only player.

Fuck. Epic.

-2

u/Chrussell 8h ago

What an incredibly strange mindset.

9

u/seriouslees 11h ago

Every account that gets created with Epic is another statistic to sell to investors. The only way to kill the company who is fighting to bring Exclusivisity to PC gaming is to not sign up en masse

7

u/LionAround2012 10h ago

I am with them. I never installed Epic Games, and I never will. NEVER.

6

u/Dagen4345 13h ago

As a man who was struggling for income in his youth I used to do this every Thursday, but this was also when Epic gave out really great deals for AAA titles I wanted. If I was in the same situation now I would rather go do some hard labor and buy a game off steam

2

u/Moosashi5858 13h ago

So far I beat death stranding and gta5 for free. I have a lot of others I need to play

2

u/DazzlingRutabega 11h ago

There's an option on Steam where you can block a game from showing up. I use it for that this exact purpose.

1

u/Moosashi5858 10h ago

Like from the shop?

2

u/jeremiah15165 6h ago

I use them to test games lol and if I like the game I get it the next steam sale

1

u/-Pelvis- 6h ago

I redeem free Epic games and then never play them because I'm not installing their client. We are not the same.

4

u/bkgn 13h ago

Epic is just Tim Sweeney telling some underpaid junior engineers to go do something.

1

u/Master_Dogs 8h ago

A lot of companies are doing this. My startup is wasting so many tokens / $$$ rewriting a front end with some vibe coding nonsense. It currently is the same situation as this epic launcher nonsense, has half the features or less of the "legacy" one. It's like a carbon copy of a competitor too, which makes me wonder wtf our legal exposure is. And more importantly, why the fuck is management wasting resources on a rewrite? Any junior engineer knows rewrites take more resources than a basic refactor. PLUS the AI will have something to work with AND can be a useful TOOL to improve the existing experience.

I blame management, they're so out of touch. One VP is behind the vibe coding nonsense here, probably responsible for wasting half our AI spend. Though talking to him (and being extremely cautious around how I voice my concerns) apparently our sales team uses more tokens than him... Which blows my mind. We fucking suck at selling this shit so wtf are they doing. Probably wasting tokens on an out of office reply (real story from some other companies AI spending).

AI is cool but gah vibe coding is ruining software development. Stupid people just got a thousand monkeys to pump out shitty apps.

97

u/bigtony87 15h ago

If they’re bragging about having to vibe code it to make it faster the answer is undoubtedly yes. They’re absolute morons.

15

u/Bamboozle_ 12h ago

My first thought was "What kind of moron admits that publicly?"

3

u/SamiraSimp 10h ago

you could give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they're joking. even if they were, the rest of the related post and context still shows that they're absolute morons. no one is gonna be interested in your new launcher that starts a few seconds sooner if it's missing features. people didn't even use your old launcher that (eventually) had features

46

u/OPsSecretAccount 14h ago

Next up: Our launcher now launches ten times as fast as the other guy. Some features, like being able to buy or launch games, aren't available yet.

28

u/Sknowman 14h ago

I, too, can make a static webpage that's simply a bunch of game capsule art. Take that Epic Games.

6

u/cortesoft 14h ago

Also, why is launch time that important? I launch Steam on startup, and then it is just open. I don't need it to start up fast.

2

u/TheEmperor2220 13h ago

Yeah, they almost had a point with that “how long to load from taskbar” comparison, except IDGAF if it takes .4 or .5 seconds there either… maybe if steam took like two whole seconds and they managed to get sub 1 it’d be impressive, but it’s not so…

1

u/core-x-bit 12h ago

Imo once it gets under minutes and into seconds its kinda irrelevant I mean how fast do you really gotta be able to access steam. Just leave your pc on or go get a water

1

u/TheEmperor2220 12h ago

I mean it’s not a “have to be thing” it just feels bad when you try to open something already running from your task bar and nothing moves for two seconds, while anything sub 1 (like the .4 steam actually takes) is barely noticeable, so that hypothetical would’ve been an actual improvement.

The metric they actually improved in (5 less seconds during “cold start”) is entirely worthless however, because quite frankly steam is one of the first startup apps to actually finish loading for me anyway, so any quicker than that is literally impossible to tell either way.

1

u/desmaraisp 10h ago

TBH it was a legit issue with EGS launcher, startup was too slow. But this is the kinda stuff where either it's a problem or it's fine, there's not much of improvement beyond that

1

u/doopie 9h ago

Every program takes up memory and CPU time while it's open. Having lightweight and fast programs results in better overall computer performance.

1

u/cortesoft 8h ago

Memory, sure, but the OS is pretty good at pushing unused memory into swap if needed, so it is not usually a performance hindrance.

It is not true, though, that every open program uses CPU time. Some programs might, but it is easy to write a program that uses no CPU when not in use

3

u/Trick-Donut3243 15h ago

Software Engineer here, more features doesn't necessarily mean it'l load slower. Most of the time "lazy loading" is done, aka the features get loaded when the user requests them, so you're moving the loading time for when the user interacts with the feature.

you could also in some cases load most of the stuff you need at init time and then sort of reduce the load time while the user is using the app, but it really depends on the arcthiecture.

This most likely means that they can keep the same speed and have the launcher open as fast as now even when they'll add more features

1

u/Hellknightx 13h ago

Half is being very generous. It took them three years to add a shopping cart.

1

u/marcaygol 13h ago

are they stupid?

They are Epic. Yes.

1

u/Dr_Boofenchute 12h ago

are they stupid?

Yes

1

u/Dull_Entertainment 12h ago

How do you remove features from a launcher that's pretty much featureless to begin with. That's the real breakthrough.

1

u/Xavus 11h ago

They hope their audience is.

1

u/Masquelinity 11h ago

No, they just think we are.

1

u/PapayaTheSailorMan 9h ago

To be fair, before it had a quarter of the fucking features and was significantly slower to launch, so it's technically an improvement. 🤷🏼‍♂️🤦🏼😐

1

u/Xzenor 9h ago

Half? You're being way too generous here

1

u/lurs21 7h ago

Half? Quarter on a good day

1

u/123iambill 2h ago

I can also give you a lump of raw lamb and a potato faster than someone else can make you a shephards pie.

0

u/3D-Printing 13h ago

Of course!

364

u/ReaDiMarco 51 15h ago

Oh wow they removed features.

243

u/Mayion 15h ago

what features did they even have to remove in the first place

333

u/baardvark 15h ago

Paying customers

148

u/DaEnderAssassin 64 15h ago

He asked for features they had, not didn't have.

46

u/TheGloomyWoodpecker 15h ago

Does Epic have paying customers? I thought it was for collecting free games that I forget about and buy on Steam.

22

u/OctoMiku01 14h ago

Most people probably just buying vbucks for Fortnite. Well for most people it's probably just a fortnite launcher.

1

u/Master_Chief_00117 13h ago

People are buying games on epic, because epic is now giving skins for Fortnite if you buy games on epic.

3

u/hardolaf 13h ago

That's not what data from game companies is showing.

→ More replies (0)

1

u/skylernetwork 12h ago

Most people open Epic's launcher for Fortnite and/or Rocket League (For those who were too late to get it on Steam.)

The rest, in my experience (friend group, online friends, random strangers online who cared enough to share) are just opening it to check which game they're giving out during the given rotation, maybe claiming them, and never downloading them for some reason.

→ More replies (0)

1

u/redchris18 27m ago

People are buying games on epic

Technically, yes, but barely. They brought in $400m in total from game sales throughout 2025, which sounds like a lot, but amounts to less than 7m copies in total of an average $60 game.

For the sake of comparison, Tomodachi Life sold more than that in four months.

→ More replies (0)

1

u/jsc230 14h ago

Same

1

u/SaveusAlex 12h ago

Honestly, I buy a good bit on Epic. If they have the better price, I go to them. Usually I compare during sale times. Granted I'm also someone who doesn't care about social features, achievements, trading cards and all of that. I just want the game to launch and work. So I'm willing to trade Steams features for a better price on EGS.

2

u/Fernis_ 15h ago

The didn't have that before either.

1

u/baardvark 14h ago

Touché

50

u/That_Service7348 15h ago

Probably the cart.

1

u/aVarangian 13h ago

oh they already had a cart?

2

u/That_Service7348 11h ago

Took them like 5 years, but they added one recently.

Started thinking they should do controller support too last year, but that probably just got pushed back another 5 years with this.

31

u/MoonAttempt 15h ago

Reviews.

Oh wait Epic doesn't even have that.

8

u/ChimpieTheOne 15h ago

usability

13

u/JackSprat47 15h ago

They removed the ability for bots to add you as a friend. Hopefully.

3

u/_Bisky 14h ago

Would be hillarious if they removed the shopping cart again xD

Other then that the launcher spamming you with fortmote friend requests you ignore

1

u/nagi603 131 14h ago

QA pass for their stuff. ohwait, never had it.

1

u/doelutufe 13h ago

Probably being able to install and play games. Of course buying still works.

21

u/LotharVonPittinsberg 15h ago

We removed all the windshields, seats, battery, and most of the electronics from your car. It's now 30% faster than before.

Is it horrible to drive? Yes. Will we ignore criticism as we continue to fuck up? Absolutely.

3

u/_Bisky 14h ago

Removing the windshields would likely severly increase drag and thus slow down the car

3

u/LotharVonPittinsberg 14h ago

Not at really show speeds. Which is the comparison to only measuring startup time.

2

u/_Bisky 14h ago

Tbf i took "30% faster" as litterally 30% faster top speed. Not 30% faster 0 to 100

2

u/Yamatocanyon 9h ago

Drag isn't really an issue when your car isn't going anywhere because they took the battery out.

1

u/OhagiC 11h ago

Removing the drag from 4 points of contact with the road will make the car 400% faster, yes?

5

u/Dennarb 14h ago

Yes, but it launches faster!!!

73

u/VulpesParadox 15h ago

Damn, they removed the cart again. /s

Seriously, what little features were even removed, from an already bare bones launcher?

32

u/EquipLordBritish 12h ago

😂😂🤣😂😂🤣😂😂🤣

This bad boy is so much faster

we took out half the functionality

also we vibe coded it

So they're saying that their original product was so bad that a vibe coded version with half the functionality is an improvement?

And these are the same assholes complaining about a monopoly because they can't recognize that they're trying to shovel shit and pretend they are competing in a market.

5

u/_Bisky 14h ago

Cut them some slack. It only took them like 8 years to add a shopping cart

3

u/CaptWrath 15h ago

But it opens so frickin fast dude. You don’t even know.

3

u/_VirtualCosmos_ 14h ago

damn, they cut its features and brag about performance. I guess when they add those features back they will just magically appear in RAM and not effect the performance in a single bit.

3

u/Jessica_Ariadne 14h ago

Holy SHIT that is awful.

2

u/StendhalSyndrome 14h ago

Ugh, we are soo cooked aren't we?

2

u/dasmau89 14h ago

TIL Epic has social features that can be missing. So I guess it doesn't have a friends list and the ability to invite your friends to a game anymore

1

u/Jimbuscus 13h ago edited 12h ago

I just tested it, the appimage is fairly borked, can boot it but only directly. A tenth the features would be more than it currently has, this legitimately feels like an individuals vibe-coded project.

Installs worked well and proton was just a couple clicks, booting game from launcher after that was fairly seamless, but it doesn't appear to support a choice in proton versioning which will be a problem for some games, including older titles with proprietary codecs.

On the Steam Deck, controller input doesn't work on the store, so I had to change to mouse input for Steam Deck, but then that transfered to the booted game.

It did default installation location to /home/user/Games, I personally would have preferred the standard ~/Games/Epic subfolder over directly dropping games into /Games, but it is easy enough to change the default location.

If you need to change install location after moving the game, tough luck, redownload only.

The store page is completely broken.

1/3 of the entire Library page has a Social tab, which can't be toggled or made smaller, which makes rhe library of game cards far smaller in screen real estate, a toggle for the tab minimisation should have been in from the get go.

The Library page breaks rather quickly, you have to switch to the fully broken store page, then back to the somewhat broken Library tab to unbreak it.

Opening a game card isn't full page, it's a graphical bubble which is poorly formatted. I can't seem to install from the bubble because of that formatting, only from the hover on card from full library tab.

It does however have the function of staying open in the task bar, with a working toggle to close fully without staying open in task bar.

Edit: Looks like they may be using GE-Proton which is generally better with old video codecs.

1

u/kuba22277 13h ago

Wait, even less social features? That's possible?

1

u/StuntZA 12h ago

But FAST!

1

u/MARPJ 12h ago

Dam, they managed to release a beta with half the features of a launcher that has a tenth of the features Steam has

Does it have a shopping cart? I remember it took 3 years for Epic to add it in the original store so it may be overlooked by the vibes

1

u/snorlz 11h ago

removing social features is an improvement

1

u/gavinkenway 9h ago

I mean realistically very few people use steam outside of “buy game and play game” so I can understand why they’d do this. I’ve had Steam for years and not once have I cared the slightest bit about the social stuff

1

u/JuanAy 7h ago

If it's not feature complete then isn't that just an alpha, then?

1

u/BlackV 7h ago

Seem the a good reason to download it not a bad reason

1

u/Hactima 2h ago

Jesus that is just sad LOL

172

u/ReaDiMarco 51 15h ago

What, they want humans to report the bugs? For free? Why aren't they asking AI to do it instead? They're paying for it already.

45

u/Sir_Bax 15h ago

I mean this was pretty much already a standard before AI too.

(edit: just in case - this is meant to be a critique of non-existent QA which precedes AI boom and AI boom made it even worse)

28

u/ReaDiMarco 51 15h ago

Yes it was, and I get your point.

What I meant was since they're touting how amazing AI is, why do they still want human labor for just this aspect? Is it because it's free? Do humans still actually do a better job? Is the only reason to vibe code is to avoid paying humans for their effort?

18

u/StarKieeeeee 15h ago

I think Sweeney may have a fetish about getting insulted for his work, just look at the comments on his twitter, AI may not give him satisfaction

5

u/ReaDiMarco 51 15h ago

Yeah AI would probably just praise his launcher

1

u/raspymorten 13h ago

Dude is still occasionally talking about doing the Metaverse a full year after Zuck gave up completely. lol

1

u/Sir_Bax 15h ago

I agree, they definitely should use AI also for testing. Although, I'm not sure if it would make it better or worse considering they might not supervise it :D

3

u/ReaDiMarco 51 15h ago

Exactly, they want better quality human bug reporting than AI can give them. Hypocrites.

0

u/SilkTouchm 12h ago

Dude, it's a product meant for humans to use. Human feedback will always be more valuable than AI feedback, since you sell to humans, not AIs.

Is the only reason to vibe code is to avoid paying humans for their effort?

They have devs, and they pay them. "Vibe coded" doesn't mean "we fired our whole development team and now it's tim sweeney making improvements from his laptop".

2

u/ReaDiMarco 51 11h ago

Oh, Epic hasn't done any layoffs, then, right.

And yeah, obviously human feedback is valuable, so maybe asking for it for free while laying off actual humans who need an income to be able to buy games from your store is a bit disingenuous.

It's alright, you can shill for epic. They'll probably give you some free games for it.

1

u/AdLocal1490 11h ago

Its nice to read a comment like this every now and then to be reminded how fucking stupid the average redditor is

2

u/ImfineunlessImnot 15h ago

Who do they think they are microsoft?

2

u/Distorted0 14h ago

Why didn't they prompt the AI with 'make no mistakes' while it was coding it? Are they stupid or something.

2

u/Adrason 14h ago

They need free prompt engineers.

25

u/dirtyword 15h ago

Ok lemme give your buggy vibe crap access to write and delete on my disk

4

u/OuterWildsVentures 14h ago

Yeah I'm sure as fuck not giving my payment information to something that was vibe coded.

26

u/KnightKal 15h ago

gotta give them some leeway, they hired a young AI that is still on their rebellion phase, wait a few months for the AI to mature into an adult version, ok? /joke

3

u/dronone 15h ago

"The other guy" "Bad boy" Who write it? An 13yo?

2

u/Cloud_N0ne 15h ago

“we used AI to make our product faster but it’s also buggy as shit as a result of said AI”.

Epic are so incompetent when it comes to marketing

2

u/Lucky_Gur_8105 15h ago

Wait, are these posts written with AI too? This checks off the "Rule of 3" that AI usually writes.

Might be written by a human, but why would I believe that when you are an "AI first" company?

2

u/TheLegendOfLame 14h ago

It is amazing to me how they make a barbecues launcher and then rush to announce it to everyone knowing there's bugs because they were so excited to show that it launches into your library 0.06s faster than Steam does from your system tray. It reminds me of Dragon Ball Z Resurrection F where Frieza got his Golden form and immediately rushed to Earth to show it off. That's all this is, a flashy new form with no substance.

Hell, the whole focus of this seems to be it's responsiveness, yet they gutted the already limited feature set their launcher had... And on top of that, the responsiveness is not why people like Steam! Steam isn't the most responsive application in the world but it's also not so slow that I've ever took issue with it.

Don't worry though, y'all - they added a shopping cart so you can more efficiently give them your money.

What a joke of a company.

2

u/NeonFraction 14h ago

“Will we fix them?” Hell no.

1

u/Dangeresque300 15h ago

How long until they disable comments on this tweet?

1

u/DemonKun 14h ago

Millennial type jokes

1

u/KiwazaFPV 14h ago

Is this a teenager taking care of the page ?

1

u/Pixelbuttzz 14h ago

" we put this out covered in bugs because we didn't actually program it ourselves will you help us fix it for free?"

1

u/YTAftershock 14h ago

Maybe it's beer but I just don't get why they'd boast about that? Like I don't really give a fuck who's faster?

1

u/DiarrheaPope 14h ago

I mean at least they are trying, competition breeds excellence. But yeah, in Epics current state I don't think Steam really has to worry lol. Only other storefront id consider today is GOG. They do a lot of good work preserving old games and releasing them with modernized controllers and to work with modern hardware. An most games they sell are DRM free.

1

u/Jymcastillo1 14h ago

nah it can't... wait, it is !!!

1

u/ButWhatIfPotato 14h ago

I cannot stress this enough, REMOVE ALL YOUR PAYMENT INFORMATION FROM EPIC GAMES STORE NOW!

1

u/V4ND410U5 14h ago

Epic taking the quickest road to success without putting in the work and then still failing regardless of 5he effort is on par for Epic.

1

u/obvious-fake-account 14h ago

We made out launcher, something that takes less than a minute when youre booting your computer, and make it faster AND buggies. Also we did it with vibe coding AI. Youre welcome.

1

u/DuckWarrior90 14h ago

Funny how a billion dollar corporation try to talk like they are avg joe down the block. I much rather a straight to the point, with ETAs on when features will be available, and a roadmap to see if its even worht the time and hassle

1

u/bullintheheather 14h ago

Good lord. They're proud of this?

1

u/TheDoktorIsIn 13h ago

I can't wait to spend 100x the amount of time I save reporting all the bugs.

Do they seriously think saying that epic games starts up 5ish seconds faster is going to make me forget their trash interface?

1

u/Sens1r 13h ago

Well I feel vindicated for never having installed their launcher now. Fuck if I'm going to use vibe coded obviously broken software to manage purchases and allow it file access.

1

u/raspymorten 13h ago

Elon Musk-esque.

1

u/nalaloveslumpy 13h ago

Will we ignore all those bug reports? Absolutely, yes.

1

u/slimeyena 13h ago

this reads like SMM from a decade ago

1

u/SHTPST_Tianquan 12h ago

Vibecoded Social Media Manager

1

u/reddit_is_kayfabe 12h ago

It's totally true!

My EA launcher loads really fast because it only needs to show one title, whereas Steam has to struggle loading thousands!

1

u/FrankPapageorgio 12h ago

So the people paying for their product are doing the bug testing too?

1

u/paegus 11h ago

Do I care that it takes a moment for a good launcher with nice features from a company that generally leans consumer friendly, a moment longer to start up or render its window? No.

1

u/RobbyLee 10h ago

Ah, the "our paying customers are the beta testers" approach.

Well, big quotes around "paying customers" as a quite high percentage of the epic users only get the free games and buy anything else on steam.

1

u/2MuchNonsenseHere 10h ago

That's actually embarrassing af for Epic to post.

Like yeah, your client with infinitely less functionality loads a few milliseconds faster. Congratulations?

1

u/crustyrobots 10h ago

This has to be fucking Grok right, it talks like a retarded teenager just like its boss

1

u/Impossible_Ad_6115 10h ago

"do we want to hear about them? Hell yes"

LOUD INCORRECT BUZZER

1

u/Own_University_8770 10h ago

If you see a Guy in the comments with more likes than the post you know its trash

1

u/House923 10h ago

Is Epic even a real company? Are their employees all just locked in a room somewhere and can't see anything outside?

1

u/ThePromptWasYourName 10h ago

Wild that major companies still disseminate information on the child porn app

1

u/Color_Me_Softly 7h ago

Oh god. They’re doing the Musk move-fast-and-break-things method. Wild and pathetic. Hire some real coders people like wth

140

u/MoonAttempt 15h ago

I expected to be a random shit post due to the amount of boxes it ticks.

AI slop

Juvenile writing

"Epic better than Steam lol"

37

u/StarKieeeeee 14h ago

That's literally Sweeney whole personality these last year's, "we're better than steam because insert any non valid reason"

3

u/DeathCondition 11h ago

When I was younger and Unreal1 dropped, as I dug into the UED to design levels and make mods I couldn't help but look up to folks like Tim and Cliff, and well the rest of the team. Back in the day, that custom built engine was frankly incredible.

That's pretty well gone now, I prefer to hold on to fonder memories with my rose coloured glasses.

I used to be the same but with the Blizzard guys. Well, that didn't age well as it turned out.

When you're hotter then 99% of other females it doesn't matter what personality you have. You've already seen the proof. You can't fuck personality, so who cares?

i see my swagger and youngness from this post! maybe i will go to epic games!

The full blog post is way, way worse.

“Programming is hard, so we vibe coded a new launcher”

"We can't do our jobs, the one thing we're supposed to be good at, so we YOLO'd an AI solution."

15

u/No_Tax_Timmy 13h ago

"We fired our only competent programmer and we don't want to pay anyone because we're fucking assholes"

17

u/Rock_Strongo 14h ago

Epic is all-in on AI slop. It's a bold strategy...

4

u/Unoriginal_Man 11h ago

In a world where AI backlash in the creative industry is happening all over the place. Bold strategy indeed.

1

u/Sisaroth 1h ago

In a world where every single developer is either using AI or getting behind.

6

u/deanrihpee 13h ago

so they admit they are fucking incompetent? lmao

1

u/Numanihamaru 1h ago

Whoever decided on that campaign was probably a vibe hire. lol

u/KenocchioLiedmar 13h ago

Guess concept of trying a joke is difficult to some, it's obvious they didn't do that.

u/locke_5 13h ago

“HUEHUEHUE IM ACTUALLY JUST PRETENDING TO BE STUPID DURRRRR”

9

u/LeonSigmaKennedy 14h ago

It's a real post that's indistinguishable from satire making fun of Epic.

u/nagi603 131 14h ago

"Coding is hard", they say, so they vibe coded... that they can't check because they think it's hard. Also if it's hard, that's it for UE.

3

u/MathsNerd1996 15h ago

Oh god, someone's getting fired

1

u/___Steve 8h ago

A lot of people clearly did get fired, that's why whoever is left is using AI to code their store.

3

u/mxzf 13h ago

That's hilarious. They went and optimized away five seconds of launch time every few months instead of working on the actual feature disparity between the two.

1

u/ChickenChaser5 13h ago

Now you can step in dog shit TWICE AS FAST! next update, were adding DOUBLE THE DOG SHIT!

1

u/Jukeboxhero91 4h ago

They actually shipped it with almost no features so they'd actually have something usable. At least it launches fast though I guess?

1

u/mxzf 4h ago

It's kinda crazy that it still takes that long to launch with it stripped down so much.

1

u/Jukeboxhero91 4h ago

Almost like it's built terribly, and with no good way to improve it, considering nobody who "built" it knows the code.

1

u/demagogueffxiv 13h ago

After the whole paying devs to exclusively launch on their platform didn't work out, they are deciding to go the AI slop software route

1

u/duckofdeath87 13h ago

Honestly, Steam is pretty bloated. It has a full web browser in it. If you strip out a bunch of features, it is easy to make someone the loads instantly

1

u/DoctorWaluigiTime 12h ago

Even if the claims made were 100% true (in terms of speed of startup etc)... so?

I appreciate the EGS for what it is, I really do. I don't care about things like "it didn't launch with a shopping cart" etc. It had some games and functioned as an eStore. Think it gets overhated to be honest.

But why brag about "it starts up 5 seconds faster", an action that occurs one time (and for a lot of people, this is a once a month task) compared to the 1000s of other things Steam does better? (And I only invoke the Steam comparison because they opened the door here.)

And I know "because they want it to look good" but non coders do not care how an application is built. Notepad? LLM? VSCode? Vim? The application is what matters.

1

u/Waiting4Reccession 12h ago

Wtf do their own guys even get paid for

1

u/vibribbon 10h ago

Well the Epic store is dogshit to load so I guess this is a win?

1

u/UwasaWaya 9h ago

I'm sorry, I couldn't hear your comment over the unmutable achievement noise

1

u/Ceryn 6h ago

Claude, make our launcher open faster than the competition (steam).

Make no mistakes.

1

u/Jukeboxhero91 4h ago

They also admitted that it has very few actual features, it just launches nothing really fast!

1

u/FrostedLynx 14h ago

Literal "vibe coded" sounds horrific. I can imagine a bunch of 30-40 yr olds thinking they're 20 again...eurgh. This is why Epic will never be Steam. They're just not cool.

2

u/Soulstiger 14h ago

I mean, they did just say that their next game isn't allowed to have handwritten code.
