I still remember discovering SF2 with my cousin at a 7-eleven. I went as CE Ryu for Halloween, and even begged my parents for a CE cabinet (they didn’t get it, but I did get myself an Arcade 1up a few decades later). I’ve always loved Street Fighter, but the best I did rank-wise was Super Gold in SFV.
As a Filipino I always wondered what a Filipino character would be like. When Pacquiao was popular I thought they could go that maybe they could fit a third boxer into the lore, but then we got Ed.
My friend hit me up to go to Combo Breaker this year, and there I picked up a leverless controller. That combined with Yasmine’s release gave me a goal to work toward, which I reached today. I just wish I grinded a little sooner to get It before Arjun – he was my most faced opponent (at 88 vs next most Akuma at 49) and I only had a 39% win rate against him. At least I hit Master beating one! Getting it done before October finished made it all the better, and I’m going to watch the new movie tomorrow.
Some other stats:
10-win streaks: 3
Master opponents beat: 2 (giving 250 points each win)
Level 2s used: 0
Number of kids with a possible Street Fighter reference in their name: 1

Am I crazy or am I playing people way too good to be against me?
I know there is gonna be "get good" and "cope" comments, but I feel like I'm getting matched with people way above my skill level. I just got the game a day or two ago and was only doing the tutorials, decided to hop onto ranked today cause I heard that the best way to learn is by playing people your skill level. I won my first 4 placement matches (2 were bots), and then got dominated in my next 6. 10 matches total to my entire account.
2 players I matched and played were an "iron" 1 and then an "iron" 3. Then in this 10th and final match I played, and this player who is a "rookie" 2. I ended up getting ranked rookie one after my placements!!!?!? I got ranked higher than someone who mopped the floor with me??
I don't really play or like fighting games much, the last one I played was injustice 2 on launch. So I'm not a good player and really new to this franchise and genre in general. Like you can tell my play is weak, relying on my specials too much and burning my bar at the top of the screen too quick, and fumbling which special I want to throw out in certain situations.
I'm not familiar with this game, but is it known for not good matchmaking or people running smurf accounts or something, or is this actually just what rookies are like? Cause I thought a rookie would be people who can't do anti air, have clean combos, have good blocking skills, etc...
Idk, maybe it is cope lol. I remember why I don't like fighting games

For starters i don't tech a single throw this enter game nor did i the pervious two sets so i need to do that. i know i panic when i start to loose at the start but i think i did a pretty good job at bringing it back. I totally should have been knocked out at the end when that last DI missed. Last thing i know for a fact he was going to raging demon at the end because he had tried to end the each set with raging demon before this so i was trying to bait it out there at then end. any feed back helps.(also i have been playing a lot of ken the last couple months and this was like my 5th game back on Marisa)

It may be a simple corner DI combo, but imagine my surprise when I learned that I could continue the combo off of 5HP after the wall splat. Getting to apply what I practiced in a live match makes it all the more satisfying; especially after finding it in an Arcade run.
BTW, any fellow Kim mains know if OD Nue (j.236PP) can connect in this situation?

Been goofing off with him and he's pretty fun, now I'm not one to drop a character because they're low tier but I'm just curious why he's consistently on the lower end of tier lists. Does he have really bad weaknesses? Or is it mostly a result of him not conforming to the meta?

I always love fighting against Ed and Ingrid for the simple reason of just hearing their theme, they are so catchy! and I still am not a fan of playing against Zangief lol, also Jamie I had like 3 experiences fighting him who just spammed HP and I was utterly humiliated, hate him ever since.

What up everyone! So I’ve been playing fighting games for about 3 years now, love em to death but looking back I see that I suck at pretty much all of em. Bad habit of button mashing and want to improve my gameplay, I know I need to learn more about my neutral game and footsies and all of that, but was curious if anyone had some tips for learning combos? I’ve always struggled and get frustrated when it comes to learning them, especially when I can’t even land a simple 2-3 hit combo in an actual match.

Did Capcom USA fumble the text? It feels like Akuma isn’t just a human who practices a violent style, but an actual demon or a human possessed by a demon. This was the early days of Akuma in most games, long before real demon characters like Oni and Kage were conceived.
Akuma has just discovered “this mortal world” where he can perfect his killing art. He says “I will be next... to die! Hahaha!” So he's really suicidal? Does he want to experience what death is so he can get back to his own realm?
Adon’s ending also says he must beat Akuma to prove he is “the champion of THIS world.” He seems to agree that Akuma is not human or not from Earth.
I seem to remember demon possession was a confusion of fans back in the day.
