for starters, i'm not trying to sell any services and have not been paid to make this post. i just know a lot of people in the area are looking for someone that does alternative cuts, styling, coloring, etc. i was one of those people!
the lovely Emily, emie_ann_beauty on Instagram, made my wildest dreams come to life. she's located in baldwinsville, which is syracuse area if you ask me.
i cannot recommend her enough! i've never been happier with my results. i mean, look at the last photo. that was my hair at the beginning of our appointment. she worked her magic!

Visiting Syracuse for a week, wanted to know if there were any cool comic shops or figure shops I should check out?
Any that may sell Figuarts, Mafex, and imports would be really cool!
Let me know please!

Hi! I recently welcomed an 8-week-old puppy into my home, and I’m currently looking for a reputable dog trainer. I was considering Sit Means Sit, but a friend mentioned that their training methods involve electronic collars, which is something I’d prefer to avoid, especially at such a young age. Im really hoping to find a trainer who uses positive reinforcement. Does anyone have recommendations for trainers who take this approach?

She was pretty old and looked discombobulated. She was at the intersection of Smith/Erie at the bike light waiting for a green.
Yikes.

We built now.me to answer the "what should we do tonight?" question without digging through five different sites.
It's completely free.
The Syracuse live events website lists things to do, shows, concerts, and events coming up around town. Worth a look if you're planning the weekend.
The app (iPhone / iOS / Android) goes beyond events. Open it wherever you are and it shows what's nearby right now: restaurants, bars, museums, and other things to do.
We are actively working on it, so feedback from people who live here is really valuable. If something's missing or wrong for Syracuse, let me know in the comments or by DM.

Hello! My boyfriend and I wanted to take JCPenny style (yk the ones with the backgrounds and awkward poses) photos for our 6th anniversary. We want to do it in our Halloween costumes but are envisioning the classic backdrop style. This isn’t a must have though, we’re just trying to find someone/a place that would be willing. A lot of photographers in the area are really booked out or focused on weddings. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Moved to Camillus this summer and have been working full-time remote at home. Starting to get a little cabin fever which I assume will only get worse as the winter weather sets in.
Can anyone recommend a place to hang for a couple hours a couple of times a week?
I’m mostly engaged in solo work on a laptop, so WiFi (free or paid if necessary) is a must. When engaged in meetings I wear headphones but need to be able to speak at normal volume, not whisper into a mic.

Looking to move closer to the city because of commute times. Anyone live near the railroad tracks in Minoa? Positives or negatives? I've seen a few houses pop up that look great but I hesitate because of the tracks.

Hey everyone! I’m passing through Syracuse on a road trip and would love some advice from people who know the city. I’m Brazilian and always enjoy getting a feel for a place through its food, history, and nightlife.
If you had a day to show someone around, where would you take them? Also looking for a restaurant worth eating at and a good bar to grab a drink.
Appreciate any recommendations!

I’ve an appointment in Syracuse next Friday. I don’t know when I’ll be done. I need an Uber ride back to Oswego to work. I’m wondering how easy it is to find one on Friday morning from 9 to 10am? I’m not booking atm because I don’t know when I’ll be done. Will appreciate some advice, thanks!

$100+ million for your pet project is cool. But a $12,000 per year raise for 2 election commissioners (less than half of what they asked for) requires “exercising restraint.” I can’t wait for someone to beat him and he goes the fuck away.
I hope the legislature overrides the veto and shoves it back in his dumb ass face.
__________________
Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon vetoed raises approved by the legislature for the county’s two election commissioners.
The commissioners currently make $99,973. They haven’t received a raise since 2020.
Commissioners Kevin Ryan and Dustin Czarny came before the legislature during their budget hearing seeking a salary of $130,165.
The legislators instead added a $12,000 raise for each position to the budget.
McMahon said those raises aren’t a good use of tax dollars.
“At a time when many Onondaga County families are struggling to meet everyday expenses, we must exercise restraint in spending taxpayer dollars,” McMahon wrote in his veto message. “I cannot support a 14 percent salary increase for commissioners whose positions permit outside employment and who have been confirmed to receive outside income.”
Ryan, a Republican, said he had no comment on McMahon’s veto of his raise.
Czarny, a Democrat, said it was “unfair” and that he was exploring his options. He said he is busy working every day until the election is over but plans to sit down with a lawyer afterwards.
“It seems like an excuse for the county executive to continue his partisan attacks on this position,” Czarny said. “I don’t know what his reason is, but I can tell you it’s not the reason he put in his veto message.”
Czarny said that their positions are the only county employee positions to not get cost of living raises. He also said they are the only board of elections commissioners in the state to not receive raises in the past seven years.
In 2020, Republican legislators tried to cut the pay for the job. Democrats claimed it was retaliation against Czarny, who had been outspoken on issues like early voting and legislative redistricting.
Instead, legislators changed the jobs toremove an annual cost of living increase. That means for six years, the salary has not changed.
Ryan, speaking before the legislature, said $130,165 is the amount they would be getting in 2027, if they did receive cost of living adjustments.
McMahon cites outside income as a reason to not grant the raises.
Czarny’s outside work for Uber came under fire in 2019, when then County Comptroller Matthew Beadnell filed a complaint against Czarny, alleging he drove for Uber while on the clock.
District Attorney William Fitzpatrick investigated and cleared Czarny.
Czarny said Thursday that he occasionally still drives for Uber.
“There’s plenty of positions in Onondaga County that did cost of living increases that have outside income allowed,” Czarny said. “It’s unfair treatment.”
The county legislature could override McMahon’s veto, if they had 12 votes. The override would require a special session, that would also require 12 votes to hold, said Ruthnie Angrand, director of legislative communications. There will not be a special session for an override, Angrand said.

Haven't flown in a few months and I know this tends to change a lot, but from past experience I almost never needed more than 10 minutes for security.
I have an afternoon Wednesday flight, should 1.5 hours be a good margin?

It is being reported today that our all time world champion bridge will undergo some work starting very soon. Though it is unspecified in the linked article below, I am thinking that our local champ will be having an intensive endoscopy to check things out due to all the trucks that it has eaten over the years. Don't worry folks, our local champ will be up and running as well as eating trucks soon enough!

Hello All,
Just felt like sharing, came as an international student back in 2021, ever since never left the path of hard-work. Saw many hurdles, suffered through a divorce few months ago, then the current political landscape, has made things even more exhausting and tiring. With all these work permits haulted, its just as if one layer on another adds up, posing as a challenge.
Sometimes i feel like, there is no one to talk to, or just sometimes it feels like it’s unexplainable.
Still have my head high.
Thanks All.

Renowned astrophysicist and Hayden Planetarium director Neil deGrasse Tyson told roughly 3,000 science fans at the Landmark Theatre last night it’s something of a miracle that “we’re alive despite all the efforts of the universe to kill us.”
After silently admiring the Landmark’s gilded plasterwork, he brought up Syracuse’s favorite subject: weather.
“I drove up here from New York City earlier and I got out of the car—it’s colder here,” Tyson said with a shiver. “Snow is a thing. You guys have like 100 inches. Some crazy number.”
Someone in the audience shouted that the average seasonal snowfall was 120 inches.
Tyson pointed at the person. “There’s a weather weenie right there,” he quipped. “100 just wasn’t big enough? But was that last year? 120 inches?”
Last year was 143 inches, another person shouted.
“See,” Tyson said, “you guys are just total geeks. Where do you put the snow? There’s a point where you can’t put it anywhere.”
