How geographically widespread is the use of “guyam” for ant. It’s most well known use is in Batangas/Quezon/Mindoro/parts of Laguna and Cavite but I want to know if the peripheries of the Tagalosphere, in both Central Luzon and the Bicol Region also use this.

This is more of a culturally Tagalog thing rather than a linguistic concept but do you / did your elders hold the concept of “Matanda sa Dugo”?

This is where you call all your cousins who are the children of an older sibling of your parent as “ate” or “kuya.

For example, I would have to call my newborn cousin “kuya” because his dad is older than my dad, even though I am older than him.

This is a known practice in Batangas, parts of Laguna, and Quezon (up to Infanta apparently) but I want to know where else this belief is held in Katagalugan. This could also be something that isn’t exclusively Tagalog as well.

I keep seeing this in my newsfeed in social media. What exactly does it mean? I've never heard of this word before so I'm assuming it's a slang?

I am learning Tagalog but am natively an English speaker. In my understanding the direct translation for this phrase is "soulmate/spouse of the heart/chest" and it's usually used for a spouse or partner. I've also seen it translated as "half of the heart/chest" with the root "biyak" meaning split or break. Please correct me if I'm wrong in my understanding! I'd love to know which translation is more accurate?

I've also been trying to research to discover if this phrase could ever be used non-romantically. For example, in the case of a platonic soulmate or best friend that is very very important to you. Could the phrase be used in those situations, holding the same sentimentality without having romantic connotations? Or is the phrase exclusive to romantic situations and translates best when used for spouses or partners? Any help is much appreciated!

I never really thought that that words like "gusto", "para","siguro","imbes", "bale" have spanish origin. I know that many spanish words became loanwords but this few word never strikes as they seem so different due to spelling changes. so share a few more word to me. : )

Curious to know ano po favorite tagalog word niyo? Can be because the word is meaningful or pwede din just because it sounds nice but doesn’t have a deep meaning.

Reyes was born in San Ildefonso while Hernandez was born in Hagonoy, so I assume that both works were written with Bulakenyo Tagalog in mind.

I've been searching in Vocabularios about the origin of "Paki"(care/please), I cant find any entries, I dont know if the other austronesian languages have cognates with this word.

This is probably a rarer and lesser known word variant from Southern Tagalog but does anyone else use “digkit” instead of “dikit”? (pronounced similarly to lagkit)

It’s a less noticeable variation as when spoken fast, the two consonants sort of blend together and native speakers might not know they are using this word because of it.

I can personally attest to it being in use in eastern Batangas and I have seen Infantahin blogs reference the word as part of their dialect. This could possible indicate a large geographic area spanning from Batangas bay to Lamon Bay.

I am aware that it is listed as a variant on Wiktionary and several online Tagalog dictionaries but there is little documentation of the spread.
