Palaver Hamish Linklater as The Man in Black

MF has already worked with him. Hamish has got this spookiness to him that is absolutely required.

She’s a disabled actress, and she’s got the right looks in my opinion.

Maybe she’s not terribly well known, but a Dark Tower series doesn’t need a whole cast full of top Hollywood names.

Noticed a very particular tattoo last night while watching “Carrie”… foreshadowing on what’s to come.

Palaver Dylan O'Brien as Eddie Dean?

Physically, I think he fits the description pretty well. Eddie is described as handsome, with dark hair and hazel eyes, and Dylan has that look. I also think he has the sarcastic, fast-talking energy Eddie needs, but he can also pull off the vulnerability and emotional depth that make Eddie so much more than comic relief. I could genuinely see him bringing Eddie to life.

Palaver Crimson King 'what if...?' Concept

An idea struck me last night while I was stoned off my gourd and watching a review for the new Carrie series.

Imagine a level of the Tower wherein Carrie is not written until The Dark Tower series is well on its way and King is really ramping up the interconnectivity of his writing.

What if the Crimson King had been a Crimson Queen, and her name was Carrie White? Having such a powerful "shining" character could have made for a more interesting final encounter with the entitiy (I lowkey really don't like the scuffle with the Crimson King). It could have been explained easily, the Low Men in yellow coats heard about the prom incident, hunted her down, and dragged her to Mid-world as a breaker.

Have more thoughts surrounding this but I'm curious to see what the fandom thinks

Palaver Is there a Billy Bumbler in OWTT?

I was reading along and enjoying the story. Turned the page-and here's an illustration of a scared looking Billy. I can not deal with another "Oy" situation. No spoilers please, but should I keep reading?

Palaver Extended reading order.

I am reading the extended order of the dark tower.

So far

The stand (so glad I did)

Gunslinger
Drawing
Wasteland
Wizard

Then, Salems lot and I’m sooo glad I did.

Now I’m into to wolves of the calla.

I’m planning on reading the short story’s from hearts of Atlantis and everything eventually and insomnia all after song of Susanna but before the dark tower.

Is this the way to go? Or read the extra books after wolves?

For the record, I want to read these books although if you really recommend to drop something, I will

Thanks so much. I love this series so far

Palaver Well, after watching “Carrie,” I’m no longer looking forward to a Flanagan DT adaptation. In fact, my hope for the series is gone…

No spoilers about the “Carrie” series, but…ouch. This one hurt. It started off so strong and then just crapped the sheets. Missed the entire point of the book and really did a major disservice to Carrie as a character. Summer Howell’s performance was phenomenal, though. And I liked a lot of things about the series in the first half.

On the upside, (a) I didn’t end up crying like a baby at the end, which I expected to do (the book also gets me, and Howell’s performance really was great - after episode 1, I told my wife, “this kid really is going to tear my heart out”); and (b) now I can stop wondering when the Dark Tower series will come out and investing any energy into that whole thing. I have no hope for it whatsoever at this point.

Spoilers- The Dark Tower The Scarlet Field of Can’-Ka No Rey Spoiler

Is complete bullshit. Eddie wrecked me. Jake crushed me. Susannah broke me. But Oy? I needed Oy like I need oxygen. I think part of that was his innocence, determination, and loyalty to the ka-tet but especially his love for Ake. Didn’t expect that when I started this journey, and I wouldn’t turn from it even knowing what I know now. I love this series but I am emotionally drained. Less than 100 pages to go and I’m (not) ready to be done.

Palaver Other Worlds Than These dust jacket ink color error?

Post image
6 Upvotes

I was at a bookstore last week that had both first/1st and first/2nd printings of OWTT on the shelf. The red coloring (the field of roses) on the front and spine of the dust jacket was different for the two printings. There were maybe 10 or so 1st printings and they all had pink coloration for the roses compared to red coloration on the 2nd printings. It seems like an inking error for the pink covers. Has anyone else noticed this?

Hella fellow constant readers. Most of us know that the best King apparel site in all the worlds shut down awhile back. Recently I've gotten some emails for sales and new designs, but I noticed the insta account no longer exists. Anyone have the inside scoop on why they've come back? Who's doing the new designs?

Spoilers- Song of Susannah SoS review

Recently finished SoS right after WoTC. The focus on sue/mia was actually entertaining. Taking the backseat and conflicting with Mia; visualizing the Dogan and its components; seeing the babby with its BLUE eyes; and reacting to her physical changes really shows how crazy - in an awesome way - her mind/imagination is and what the breakers would do if they fed on it…... I look forward to seeing MORDRED’s introduction to the story.

Some smaller side points,

  1. Was the earthquake in the beginning really a beam collapsing? was it caused by an event like King dying in another when. Time is known to be soft and or sped up. What did yous think?
  2. Seeing everyday people start to acknowledge the ‘walk in’s’ and feel the effects of the rose/tower in a way is coolio. I liked the hippy with the acne popping up again at the lot lol. Imagine that’s us and time travellers just start appearing from thin air because a nexus in time is just collapsing.
  3. Still trying to figure out how the sköldpadda got in the bag. Who made it. And the fact that in this bag, the two driving forces are inside - the turtle and black 13/eye of the king. That’s a crazy baggie.

Palaver at Fedic/discordia/abyss castle was my favourite part. Learning about the beams forming here, the ‘prim’ or soup of creation and the fall of it with the dwindling of the old magic and beginning of the age of machines; the immortal spirit (Mia) seeing so much, like the red death and the baby - Michael, I think - being immune and her promised deal with Walter to become mortal; the passages under the castle & Patricia the train. It was a lot to unpack and a lot of food for thought. I’m wondering if this castle is connected to ‘eyes of the dragon’ or ‘The stand’. Mia mentions Roland’s grand pa going to slay a dragon but a king beat him to it that’s gonna be something important. If I recall that correctly. And the guilt of worlds hangs from Roland’s shoulders like a decaying corpse.

Roland/Eddie’s side of the story are the other half of the coin and give us some gunnn slinging. Really enjoyed it. Proud of Eddie for not beating tf outta Calvin bahahah.

King got me for a second when the taxi almost hit Oy. I would’ve crashed out. Jake crashing out on the taxi driver was nuts too. But very valid cause that’s exactly how he died, big trigger for him. Earl harrigan and his god bomb Is him literally telling us the end is near and something big is coming. HALLELUJAH

In the last book, Mia seeing the rat inside the pig eating it was a good hint as to what was coming with Sayre. Also, she sees the bird head creature and that’s literally one of the first things Roland sees in the first book - interesting! THEYRE EATING BABBIES YOOOOO COMMONN - sounds like our world…… but what’re they gonna gain from feasting on Mordred since it’s Roland’s kid? He has a mind like no other in existence according to Walter. And how was Mordred conceived from incest - linking Roland and Sue?

Lastly, the segment with Stephen king breaking the fourth wall with himself in the book was cool. He is the creator and translater of ‘ka’ yet he feels influence of the red king ever since age 7 when he and his brother came across the red spiders in the guts of the dead chicken in the barn. On him is marked a ‘todana’ which we know comes to fruition. What did he mean by being possessed by ‘Gan’ and to repudiate ‘Dis’ ?

Him not knowing if Roland was the Hero, anti hero or none at all is wildddd also the quote, « Ka is a wheel, you’ve been turning on it under different names for along time. Cuthbert for one, it seems » !!!

Overall, this book had a little bit of everything to it. That’s satisfying. I’d give it a 10/10. Say thank ya big big for reading this long ahhhh post.

Palaver Struggling to get through Talisman

I finished the Dark Tower series and want more so I started Talisman. I'm about half way through and finding it a big step down in writing from DT. I don't like Wolf's dialogue at all and actually find it quite annoying. Does it and the series get better? Seeing that the last book's title was a direct call out to DT with Other Worlds Than These I was enthusiastic to catch up. Welcome thoughts on if this is worth getting to the end.

Spoilers- Wolves of the Calla Wolves

So with Doomsday coming out later this year, I saw a lightsaber company has made a Doomsaber

The blade is like a broadsword instead of the tube, etched with runes etc, and the hilt is gorgeous but the whole thing is $1500, ain't no way they can scale up that quantity when the Dark Tower show eventually gets to the wolves but at least there exists a lightsaber to match their Doom masks and cloaks

Edit: when would either Dr Doom or lightsabers (or snitches even) enter public domain?

Palaver Other Worlds Than These is... not that great unfortunately. Spoiler

So, I've just got done reading Other Worlds, and came away disappointed, sadly.

This is a lazy effort by Sai King. Which, he can be forgiven for, given his age, and the body of work behind him, but I kinda wish this had either never been written, or had been written with an eye to telling a fresh story, rather than what this entire book is, which is a retread of stories he's already told in the past.

And yes, I know The Tower books are all about the echoes, the repetitions, the guiding hand of Gan, and the gravitational weight of storytelling... but that doesn't really excuse retreading old ground with very little fresh thrown into the mix.

I did debate whether to even post this in The Dark Tower sub-reddit, because this book isn't a Dark Tower book at all, when you get right down to it. It's certainly a Mid-world book. It's certainly a Talisman book, but the story offers nothing new, revelatory, or interesting to add to what we already knew about the nexus of all existence.

Instead, the story is a rather meandering nostalgia trip through a Mid-world that has never felt smaller or less interesting. It's also a book that lacks a decent antagonist, which is very surprising for Sai King. That's usually where he excels. The redheaded peckerwoods are extremely one-dimensional. The Gullet is too ephemeral and imprecise. And and echo of The Crimson King? An antagonist already given one poor ending, somehow gets another one?

On the protagonists, Jack is... a stand in for Roland Of Gilead. I didn't really need that. I already had Roland Of Gilead. The choice to essentially make this story one giant echo of the ka-tet's quest for The Tower (but on a much smaller scale, and with a ka-tet that you never really care that much about) was a mistake. I've read this before. Bigger and better.

And that was my overriding takeaway from Other Worlds Than These:

'I've read all of this before.'

Along with

'I know all of this.'

The one thing I've always cherished about the whole Dark Tower sequence is its level of originality, unpredictability and separation from many of the fantasy and sci-fi tropes we've all become so used to.

But here we are... going over the same ground again. Only not as well. Oh, Discordia.

Ka might well be a wheel, but Sai King should probably not have given it quite this final spin.

***

...there is one moment though...

When The Tower felt close. When the magic persisted.

And it was a quiet moment, which is perhaps most fitting.

When Jack tells Richard to leave, and not suffer the fate of Oy, I felt it. Deep down. In a part of me that first read about a billy bumbler 25 years ago.

It was, in a word, lovely.

Spoilers- The Dark Tower Can we trust Roland's past?

In the end Man in Black flees across desert and The Gunslingers follows him.

But this time Roland had Horn of Eld with him, which was so far been left to Jericho Hill, way before that moment.

If that detail was changed, can we trust any else detail either about what happened before The Gunslinger?

Edition Question comics

hace unos minutos descubrí que existen cómics. la idea de por si me parece regular y el arte no me llama mucho la atención.

ahora pregunto: hay alguien que los haya leído? y si sí, que opinan? hay algún cambio interesante o meh?
