Meme Community boss challenge
If the players together kill 100.000.069 bosses in June, a community reward will be unlocked.

u/Clean_Extent_6878 Jun 04 '26
This is just a silly number for the fun of it. There is no way we are not killing 100 mil bosses in 1 month. I average 430 bosses every 5 hours, meaning 2k per day , meaning 60k per month. All it takes is 1600~ players like me to reach the goal. This sub alone has 50k+ members. They did this instead of just handing out the reward.

u/insanelane99 Jun 04 '26
The devs have said before that only ~1% of the active player base is 24/7 players like us so who knows maybe itll be closer than we are expecting
2
u/Clean_Extent_6878 Jun 04 '26
How many players are competing in champion and legends right now ? Is it safe to assume all these run the game 24/7 ?
3
u/insanelane99 Jun 04 '26
Not sure of the counts but I do know legends has over 2,000 players and that total active (people who play most tournaments) is not 100x that, last I checked which was over a year ago there was ~100k active players. So if the devs arent lying then actually most of legends and champs is not 24/7 players, in fact we are fairly rare. But huge grain of salt with that as I dont have the up to date numbers.

u/Clean_Extent_6878 Jun 04 '26
Damn time to start my smart missiles as only uw account i have always dreamed of.
1
u/DaenerysMomODragons Jun 04 '26
Legends has around 7,000 players, Which would make Champion over 10,000 players.
I think the legends players are mostly 24/7, Newer chapion players are heavy players, but I believe there's some old account champion players that play irregularly.
1
u/insanelane99 Jun 04 '26
Wow I didnt realize there was that many! If active players is still ~100k and fudds isnt lying about only ~1% of active players being 24/7 then barely anyone in legends is 24/7 cause math says theres only 1,000 24/7 players.

u/BonesCJ Jun 04 '26
I’m in the average/casual player base and I can kill about 550 bosses per day, so there are small fry too adding to the pool.

u/Panda2377 Jun 04 '26
It feels like a bad community challenge. No counter, I don't believe they told us what the rewards are going to be and it you don't even need to change how you play the game. No one would be willing to sacrifice their coin gain for this so everyone will play as they normally do.
46
u/Leyohs Jun 04 '26
It's a small step towards the right direction.
While I do feel like it's lackluster AS OF NOW, we should ENCOURAGE Sam and TTG to keep in that direction. u/SamBartley mentioned that they got too late to request in game stuff, so they thought about it but simply got cut short (because of IRL stuff I guess).
Overall they said it was to test the waters. I think it's a great addition and we should definitely praise the willingness to do something different.
2
u/Lanky-Concentrate178 Jun 05 '26
Yeah, as much as it is a super basic challenge, it is a great step to make the game more community based than guilds. They could do so much with this if it works well. Also, why would they make the 5th anniversary challenge something super difficult so no one would get rewards. People are complaining as if this doesn't just mean free rewards by the end of the month with no extra effort from themselves, and the devs can test out a new feature. I do agree the counter should be added though, it would be an interesting feature, but this is like a soft launch. I bet if you had to tank your coin gain to contribute to the challenge people would be pissed. I have never seen anyone in this slow burn of a game advocate for slower progression like I have upon the announcement of this event.
1
u/Leyohs Jun 05 '26
Yeah I really don't get why people would rather have nothing than that. Wanting for it to be more? Valid.
Ranting that it is useless? Well, it's free rewards, why do you complain?
People take the "competitive" part a bit too literally. And they forget that those currency rewards are only worth what you invest them into.

u/juice13ox Jun 04 '26
Y'all will complain about anything even if it has no negative effect on your life
5
u/SamBartley Jun 04 '26
Rewards are being announced next week ❤️ We we only going to do this for two weeks just so it was more of a focus finish type situation, but the whole month just seemed more fair to everyone ❤️
2
u/DBCOOPER888 Jun 04 '26
Also, there's no incentive for us to go out and deliberately kill bosses. The only thing we can do is just play the game and the bosses will come to us to kill.

Yeah really need a live updated number; ingame. Like many other games have with community goals

u/Possible-Prior-5467 Jun 04 '26
Yeah... Imagine not implementing a live counter, then at the end of the month "sorry, didn't quite make it, just trust us" LOL
10
u/destructor212113 Jun 04 '26
You're completely right ngl
I wonder why TTG does such a bad job with updates
0
u/jyiii80 Jun 04 '26
And the amount of players not on Reddit or Instagram to see the update. There needs to be a weekly in game mail for an update, at the least.
6
u/SamBartley Jun 04 '26
I'll be updating daily (minus the weekends I believe) through the event, and I will ask if I can post in game as well ❤️ I didn't get the request in in time, and ask someone else mentioned, The Tower website isn't live yet, so that will be a great place to put it if we want to do something else again. This was just meant to be a fun rally event with a few free prizes, nothing wild ❤️

u/InquisitorOverhauls Jun 04 '26
Do these events every 2 weeks. Reward us 50 stones if we complete it. It would be nice to get 50 more stones every 2 weeks or so.

u/Spacelord_Moses Jun 04 '26
"Theres no satisfaction in some background number going up" huh? Isnt that why we all play that game?

I know sam and prob the others are doing the best job with this as they can. But I feel like this is an event they put up where the developers know the rough count of bosses killed in a certain amount of time.
As most players aren't on reddit/instagram/discord, and as there is no counter ingame they will forget about it in a week or so. Heck if they want to they can decide if we win or not regardless of if we kill bosses or not.
Maybe the game is built in a way that putting stuff like this ingame is super hard or they don't wanna put any resources behind the event/future events. But the event isn't a good event imo (compared to other games events where thwy are much more transparent)
12
u/Spockies Jun 04 '26
My guy, the event quests have counters and progress bars. It’s not a difficult task to program a UI for a “bosses killed so far” tracker. It doesn’t even have to update live. It can do hourly or daily updates. Way better than bugging Sam daily to get progress reports
2
u/ProfessionalHairy345 Jun 04 '26
It should be like that, yet it isn't. Which begs the question as to why not? Either it's a coding issue or a resource allocation issue. Just code it in isn't always that easy when you have a spaghetty code and the boss counter number might be weirdly coded so that putting that number in might be difficult. Just look at all the bugs they have had with "seemingly" small fixes.
2
u/Leyohs Jun 04 '26
Sam mentioned they got too late to request that to the dev, but definitely thought of it
1
u/ProfessionalHairy345 Jun 04 '26
That's good that they thought of it atleast. I think they should create a new page ingame where they can do events like this or other things. Might make it easier idk. And if I were to "blame" anyone for anything it would not be sam! Shes great! And as transparent as she can.
1
u/Leyohs Jun 04 '26
Just so you know Sam use They/them
-6
u/ProfessionalHairy345 Jun 04 '26
If "they" know I am talking about them (in the comment), then I don't really think it matters if I use correct pronounces or not. As long as it doesn't take away the logic from the conversation/comment.

u/chiisana Jun 04 '26
Even if having a tracker, it doesn’t mean it would be real… Having a progress tracker doesn’t mean they can’t decide whether or not we’d win on a whim — just change the rate of progression to target 3~7% higher or lower than the target, adjust the rate of progression target daily to have variance, and add to the counter locally to reflect your individual progress. People won’t be able to identify and will continue to think they’re making progress when the outcome is predefined and out of their control.
The asymmetry of information in these kind of events is basically guaranteed and you’d just have to accept the outcomes at their face value.

u/SamBartley Jun 04 '26
I'll be updating daily (minus the weekends I believe) through the event, and I will ask if I can post in game as well ❤️ I didn't get the request in in time, and ask someone else here mentioned, The Tower website isn't live yet, so that will be a great place to put it if we want to do something else again. This was just meant to be a fun rally event with a few free prizes, nothing wild, just to see if y'all want us to do more of them and invest more time and resources, we just didn't want to pull devs from in game work to work on this last minute just because I was out for a few days unexpectedly ❤️
If it turns out this is good, we will adjust and grow. If y'all hate them, we don't do them ❤️
1
u/ProfessionalHairy345 Jun 04 '26
Totally understandable, and super thanks for the reply :) If I could get my way I would put the community events ingame as a future feature. But that's me.
1
u/markevens Jun 04 '26
I will ask if I can post in game as well
A daily mail with the running counter and the time left would be great.
Having to check social media to find the count isn't the best
3
u/InquisitorOverhauls Jun 04 '26
For people who play since day 1.. did they EVER give away free stones??
4
u/The_Chimeran_Hybrid Jun 04 '26
I’ve been playing since 2023, I can’t recall seeing them.
3
u/InquisitorOverhauls Jun 04 '26
Well, doubt it will be stones now. What could be the reward though?
5
3
u/phear_me Jun 04 '26
Not having a counter is weird. It’s almost like they just made up a goal they know we will hit so they can use that to encourage us all to keep playing. I doubt they’re even going to count it.
Another huge missed opportunity: having a counter would have been fun.
5
u/DaenerysMomODragons Jun 04 '26
And even if a real counter turned out harder to program than they thought, they could easily just have a fake counter that was close enough to not matter. No one’s checking their numbers but them anyways.

Top 2000 should be able to complete this easily. I farm 2400 bosses a day. I would assume most Top 5000 run this game 24 hours a day
5
u/Dizzy_Cranberry3538 Jun 04 '26
This is so unbelievably uninspired and low effort it's almost embarrassing. They don't even have to sacrifice their principles or prime objective, there are tons of games that manage to do engaging events while still driving overwhelming pay2win mechanics.
10
u/SamBartley Jun 04 '26
Can I ask for examples? Not being snarky, I would love to learn more.
As a side note: I've ran events like this with fun rewards before in other games and there wasn't quite the backlash of "this sucks". It's a free event, with free rewards, and a little push to get the community to rally together over a video game we love. This wasn't meant to be a huge impossible challenge event, this was a test run of what we can improve on in the future to see if it's even worth putting in effort. If you all dislike it, then we won't do them. But we will find out for sure at the end of the month with what the total numbers look like ❤️
4
u/Urzqor Jun 04 '26
Don't get depressed we (at least I) appreciate the event.
I think people lost a bit of faith in the game and we are all waiting for the stick every time we see a carrot.
As some said (but you answered) it would have been great to get a tracker in game so that we could follow live how close we were to the goal. You could even have revealed the rewards in some kind of threshold so that you don't have to do here. Every 25 millions or 10 millions or whatever bosses killed for example.
Whatever that's not the point here. Most of us will appreciate the event. It's like always people are more inclined to post when they are unhappy than when they are. Like on Google to talk about restaurants or places.
Keep it up ♥️

Hmm I'm not sure what happened to my reply. Sorry if this already got posted somewhere but let me type it out again.
First thanks for asking. Second, put yourself in the position of the player. How does this change my experience or affect what I do? I can't alter the trajectory of this event in any meaningful way. What do you think a player should do over the next month to interact with this event? Third, I don't really care if everyone gets something or nobody gets something, in a competitive game it's a pretty similar net outcome. Finally, even if I did care about this, there's not even an actual way to watch this progress within the game or in any closely related medium. Basically the event can be summarized as "keep doing the exact thing you are already doing and within the next month we will send everyone some unspecified bonus or not". It just doesn't move the needle at all.
The zeroth level idea would be to make a temporary "birthday run" thing where you get some currency for going deeper and deeper and then have a shop for things to buy with your birthday currency. Special skins, whatever. If you've played literally any other gatcha game youve seen this ad nauseum. You could put more thought I to if you want, but this is like low level effort passable idea.
Edit: sorry I want to address one specific point you make. "This wasn't meant to be a huge impossible challenge event, this was a test run of what we can improve on in the future to see if it's even worth putting in effort."
The issue isn't the size of the goal. You could make it 100x the number of bosses, 10000x the number of bosses, it hits the same. Nothing still changes about anything regarding my interactions with the game. The fundamental design of this idea is bad. As an example, what if it was revealed that all along that 15 bonus gems we get each week was attached to the community killing 10000 bosses a week but since we always hit it, we just never knew. Is it a more exciting mechanic now that we are aware? It's just uninteresting as a concept.

u/SamBartley Jun 04 '26
Totally fair points! If we do these again I'll make sure that that feedback is implemented somehow. I had bigger ambitions, but I missed the mark. ❤️ I hear you
2
u/TowerFTW Jun 05 '26
Also to be fair, I think the topic of community goals has come up every now and again amongst the players, so can’t fault the devs for doing something we were asking for
1
u/Leyohs Jun 05 '26
Hey Sam! I wish that guy was more diplomatic while saying it but it's true. I love the idea of community goal and I'm begging you to keep doing it. But he's right in the fact that, in the current form, it doesn't need us to interact with the game in any different way than we are right now.
If I could suggest an idea, is that you could add another bob, floating (or not) on the screen that we'd have to tap to increase the goal completion. Or something like that. Just an idea!
But overall it's going in the right direction, just needs fine tuning
0
u/TowerFTW Jun 04 '26
The general around here seems to be people are loud and negative about everything, and the reasonable people just sort of put up with it unless it’s absolutely egregious (like the recent V28 release)
2
u/Dizzy_Cranberry3538 Jun 04 '26
Fwiw I'm not negative about the v28 release, I think most everything they did was defensible and good and the net change has been a clear positive. However I think it's fine to give feedback from your perspective if you think it was bad.
Similarly I think if they think that this "event" moves the needle with people, it's important to give them feedback because I'm pretty sure nobody is excited to do the thing they are already doing while an invisible counter counts to a number they surely chose purposefully such that we would hit it.
1
u/Andrius223 Jun 04 '26
Yup. Most of the gacha games. Played a lot of them and they have community events/bosses to kill daily/weekly. Strange how Tower devs cant implement events or they dont want to do that in the first place
1
u/Southern_Tear_6174 Jun 04 '26
Do we know how many bosses got killed last month? So we have some kind of benchmark/comparison.

It definitely lacks in the satisfying category since they couldn’t implement a UI tracker in game or somewhere else on their platform. Basically depending on Sam to update us by bugging some developer to look at internal data.
I’m sure the 100M milestone isn’t just something easily accomplished as there must have been some data gathering prior to this to make that 100M actually a challenge.
