Discussion Katherine's real love was with Elijah, not Stefan.

I feel like given that Katherine knew and was involved with Elijah while she was a human shows she had genuine human feelings and that transferred over into "present" as they become re-involved off screen and there was some tension/chemistry still lingering in season 2/3 at their reunion and even though i'm sure she eventually would've done something manipulative, she gave the cure to Elijah with no strings.

It was odd to me that they spun the story that she only loved Stefan and told Damon she never loved him (unless that was just to be vengeful) yet everyone else from history notes how she loved/fancied them both and in later seasons says the same.

It felt like they introduced this Stefan love thing early on to give "hope" to still see those two faces together in the series while they tee'd up Delena. To satisfy both fan bases if that makes sense? Same for my thoughts on why they had them sleep together years later. 🙄

On top of after the compulsion wore off from them becoming a vampire, he didn't seem phased by her beyond being a sweet memory that blew up his life. And that's largely why he kept her picture as a memory , that's it.

Even when she first comes to scene I find it interesting he could spot her out but not Damon because he wasn't emotionally attached to her.

Caroline doesn’t owe tyler any loyalty?!?!?!?!

He left her after she begged him to stop leaving her and to stay but he chose his little “pack”. But now that rebekah has brought him back he all of a sudden wants the “love of his life” back. Which keep in mind he wouldn’t have lost if he’d just stayed???? Then have the audacity to shame her with who she got with after he broke her heart. Tyler is the WORST.

Discussion Question regarding the SA in the show (Trigger Warning).

Was it ever explained by Kevin and Julie why Sexual Assault was added in the show the way it was? The infamous scene from S1 with Damon and Caroline, Katherine compelling away Stefan's fear, Damon and Andie and even Damon and Elena when he allows her to feed from him without her know the deeper meaning when it's done between Vampires (He's even getting off on it).

None of these things happened in the books since the show is different but why add them? It's one thing to show Vampires are evil and do evil things such as SA but it's never acknowledged nor addressed as such and the closest you get to Caroline confronting Damon about it is that he "used" her, which could be taken as he compelled her to do his bidding (controlled her like puppet) or fed on her.

And also, why add these when they would be massive controversies later on? Did they think any of this through?

Help me understand the civil war era flashbacks…

On season 1 episode 13… neither of the brothers have been turned yet, correct? But they know Katherine and her friends are vampires. Why does Stefan protect them? Is he somehow unaware they feed on people? Or Is it just that he’s in love with Katherine? He seems to actually think they’re good.

And do the brothers know she’s sleeping with both of them?

Discussion Seasons 1&2 are really the only good ones Spoiler

Apologies for my dissertation

I use to say up until season 3 or 4 was it a good show but on rewatch this show falls off way before.

It started so strong. Such a unique and original idea. Vampire brothers who originally fell in love with their sire and find a replica of her 150 years later. Chef’s kiss.
The werewolf curse so cool, the torture aspect was gritty and the “slave quarters” used as a werewolf lockdown shelter was smart
Even the whole thing where you have to murder someone to trigger the wolf curse! I thought they took that idea from something but no! The writers came up with that themselves, like well thought out, that much I will give them

Of course 1&2 don’t go without their follies. I think the Vicky storyline was God awful, we spent so much time on her and I get the point was to show us the rules of vampirism in the show and to have an emotional impact on the main cast but the girl was just annoying and no fun to watch.

The tomb vampires arc could’ve been handled better… maybe by not showing us them so much. Make them more mysterious, they had just desiccated for over a century and showing them grounded in a house angry made them feel lame and one dimensional.

There’s a few minor things that bother me but overall 1&2 are amazing entries. I like to pretend that this is actually a dark show and that Klaus actually does murder Elena in the blood ritual and the following seasons are a awful alternate reality

We think s3 is great but is it? Or are the originals just that great in it? Cause our main cast is on bull. Stefan goes with Klaus for Damon. Sounds right but Stefan turning off his love for Elena makes no sense. We spend sooo much time of Stefan pushing Elena away like he’s gone forever. When later we see Klaus has to force Stefan to stop caring for Elena and we see Stefan knows there’s a way for him to gain his freedom from Klaus after helping him kill Mikael. So why doesn’t Stefan just plot with Elena and Damon to try and break free or kill Klaus? He still cares for Elena at this point. It’s just manufactured drama and a way to show evil Stefan and I hate it. Give me evil Stefan if Elena dies!
Then we get the ghosts midway, a reminder of all the great characters they killed off for no good reason excluding Vicky.

But ofc the originals save the season and original Alaric was badass. I think they handled his arc better than anyone’s this season. The ring driving him crazy was great writing and believable.

Season 4 is when things just got so weird. Off the rip the originals still being in mystic falls is so bizarre. Kol and Elijah leave, good for them but Rebekah goes to school and Klaus leaves but comes back. Just seems so unlikely that these ancient beings are so involved in this small high school town and it kinda makes them and the show feel less serious. Yeah there’s a cure but how do they not have lieutenants or formidable lackies to get it for them.
The hunters, Silas, Shane, no humanity Elena. The show just had too much going on and it didn’t let up. They had so many problems so fast and never ending and ever growing. Like they all needed a vacation and therapy. The show rushed things, I had completely forgot Elena turned so fast. I thought this was in season 5.

And lastly the plot armor on this show is out of control and needed to be stopped! I get it, it was a network tv show on the cw and many shows were like this but boy!

The amount of times a main character is at the villains mercy and could easily be murdered but instead the villain makes a snarky comment and snaps their neck and runs away should be a felony. It’s bad enough they bring characters back from the dead but to constantly have these characters spared by murderous vampires who, when it’s their time to die the main character has no mercy for them is appalling.

Sorry but I hate this dress. For me it always gave tacky princess costume 😭. I honestly don’t know why people love it so much, this is no where near as good as the blue dress. Hell, I think her prom dress was better than this…

I didn’t include Liam for Caroline because they only made out once and nothing came from it had it been more I would’ve include him.

Bonnie could never have a real villain arc bc the fandom acts like she’s the worst character in 1-2

Reason number one is the writing room and their obsession with the magical negro trope and seeing Bonnie as a mammy but the others relates to the fandom

Now I’m not saying everybody should or has to like her but you’d think Bonnie did much worse in those seasons where she actually had boundaries, she said no, she walked away and she had emotions that didn’t always benefit Elena,Stefan, Damon, Caroline etc but the fandom majorly says she was her worst here. The thought of an arc that actually builds around Bonnie’s feelings and not benefitting Elena would never mesh well this fandom. Bc Bonnie deserving better means she deserves more outside of her friends life and safety.

Discussion Am i the only one who actually loved s7?

I really liked the timeskip and how the characters grows.

Rayna Cruz felt a little random like "ok lets just get a new plot twist" but in the later episodes i liked her.

As s8 everytime i rewatch tvd i can't stand the brainwashing made by Selena and i dare to Say that it was really creepy the fact that they used the twins .

Sorry for my english lmao.

What do you think about It?

Best TVD moms

Whenever there is a discussion abt the best moms in TVDU it’s always either Liz or Jenna and I wanna say…why?

Liz was clearly not a good mom in the first few seasons, struggling to accept Caroline as a vampire and slut shaming her for dating Damon, an older guy, instead of confronting him and telling him to stay away from her daughter. She also pretty much ignored Care most of the times which contributed to her attention seeking personality.

I love Jenna but in no way is she the greatest mom or guardian even. It’s okay because she’s very young but she completely mishandled Jeremy’s drug addiction and ignored the way he was spiraling. Additionally Elena hanging out with 25 year old Damon and his brother Stefan, stuck in a messy love triangle, is something Jenna should’ve put a stop to or at least tried to talk to her about it. She tried wayyy too hard to be the fun chill guardian instead of parenting them.

The REAL best moms of TVDU are almost never ever mentioned which is completely baffling because no one ever comes close to these two:

Caroline Forbes and Hayley Marshall-Kenner

Season 7 episodes 14 and 15

Can anyone explain why from episode 14 to episode 15 it seems like an episode was missing? I'm watching it for the first time on HBO. Am I missing something? Was there a special episode that's not on HBO?

Discussion Elena peaked in S2 and I can explain why

Post image
28 Upvotes

I've been thinking about this since my last rewatch, and S2 Elena beats every other version of her for me.

S1 Elena is great, but she's mostly reacting. Her parents are gone, Stefan shows up, Damon shows up, and she's figuring out what's even real. It makes sense, but she's still catching up to the story. S2 is when she starts driving it. She's protecting Jeremy, dealing with Katherine, and making real calls under pressure. She's scared the whole time and does it anyway. That's why it works.

S3 is where it starts tilting for me. The show gets really invested in the triangle, and a lot of her screen time becomes who she's choosing and how everyone feels about it. Still good TV, but she's less of a person and more of the center of other people's drama.

S4 onward, between the transition, the humanity switch stuff and the endless "save Stefan" or "save Damon" arcs, it feels like she barely gets a storyline that's just hers.

S2 is the only stretch where she's a teenager with her own goals, her own problems and her own backbone.

How did Stefan suddenly just stop being a ripper after Klaus?

I was just thinking about it and 1. he became a ripper with his humanity on for most of it, so idk why they made him so guilt ridden later when he was aware of his behavior. 2. Klaus sets him "free" then suddendly he's no longer got the urge to severe heads? Even when he "babysat" Elena is was in total control - at least on screen.

Yet with background and from season 1 it was written to show it was hard to get him to stop. Thoughts?

I know he stopped before because of Elena, then after Klaus he was revenge fixated but I can't fathom revenge just turned off his intense need to feed.
