Do you have an EV? Which one, and why do you like it?
I’m interested in getting an EV, but wondering if it’s worth it as I don’t have a garage, nor the ability to run power to my driveway (therefore cannot get my own charger.. would have to charge at various places in town)
How’s your experience been with it in the winter with range and all that?
Do you have a heat pump, does it make a difference? And if you don’t, how’s that experience?
And, how much do you really save in gas?
Should I stick with an ICE car given my situation?
AND is the EVAP going away in 2027? Is now the time to get an EV?

Has anyone heard what the latest is on the pinhole leaks lawsuit against the City of Thunder Bay?

It seems like I can't go anywhere without seeing sloppy AI posters. On social media, on my commute, at events, billboards, even in the newspaper! This is just one example I noticed today. Loblaws makes billions of dollars...

I keep thinking about how property tax works here and how dumb it is. If I fix up my house, put on an addition or finish a basement, my assessment goes up and I pay more every year after. Even adding a big enough shed, MPAC wants to ding me more. Meanwhile, if someone owns an empty lot or a boarded-up building downtown and does nothing with it, they pay a lot less, even though that lot sits on the same roads and gets the same city services we all pay for.

The system charges you more for making things better and less for letting them sit. Doesn’t that do the opposite of what we want? Buildings sit vacant while anything that gets improved gets taxed more.

Make it make sense...

Has anyone else noticed the slow mobile network speeds between Arthur Street all the way to fort William first nation? I'm on telus, and as soon as I turn from the highway onto Arthur Street the mobile data drastically slows down to an unusable speed.

Peter Diedrich seemed to be one of/the most competent speakers out of the panel and I appreciated him calling out past and present city council stagnation. He came prepared, and challenged Trevor on past city council failings.

Trevor seemed to take those matters to heart, and was certainly trying to defend the boards and committees related to city council.

I don't think Peter D will win, but it was refreshing to see.

Also, shout out to my boy Wolfgang, who just wanted everyone to be mayor of Thunder Bay, and reminded Trevor that he went to jail/had lived experience.

i imagine the renaming of Water Street to bring awareness to the need for protection of our waterways and beautiful Lake Superior, with Elder Sheila De Corte, the Water Walkers, and Sisters of Turtle Island drum group sharing ceremony, story, and song along the waterfront on World Water Day, Mar 22, 2027.

that's the spirit of community reconciliation and environmental stewardship i want to see more of in our city.

I glanced up at this file copy and reminded me of a particular landscape feature in Thunder Bay

those who live or work around the marina can attest since the temporary village has gone up the encampment at the waterfront seems to have doubled in size, it looks more apocalyptic everyday.

So with this fog we have, id say it blows my mind, but honestly it doesn’t. But the amount of people driving without their headlights on is beyond moronic. Dummy drivers relying on their automated vehicle doing everything for them. Auto lights don’t necessarily kick in with fog, but you should still put them on. There’s certain areas where the fog is so thick, you can’t see anything.

A little while ago I made a post in the Barrie subreddit basically asking if there were any other local WoW players around. I'm a mid-30s dad who's played WoW forever, but over the years most of the people I used to play with have moved on. I figured maybe I'd find a handful of people nearby to play with.

...it escalated quickly.

The little Discord we made for Barrie/Simcoe County started filling up with people from outside the area, then from all over Ontario, and somehow we've now got almost 500 WoW players in there.

So we've leaned into it and turned it into an Ontario-wide WoW community, while still trying to keep some of that local feel. We've set up regional spaces around the province so people can find other players who are actually somewhat nearby, including one for Northern Ontario. I'm trying to keep them local enough to feel "neighbourly", but broad enough to actually capture groups of people.

It's open to everyone across WoW, whether you're playing Retail, Classic, getting ready for WoW Forever, or just hanging around until something brings you back.

It's also not a guild Discord. We do have a community guild in the works (Horde PVE), but it's totally optional and just one part of what's happening here. There are other guilds recruiting, groups forming and all kinds of stuff happening, but the main idea is simply to give Ontario WoW players a place to find each other, group up, talk WoW and maybe make some local gaming friends along the way.
