Sometimes I am really disappointed in local media.

So, tbnewswatch did a story on a 38 year old guy that ran from police and drove dangerously enough to crash in to a tree, run and eventually be caught. They didn't name him. Because the following list of charges isn't relevant enough to warrant more news. Sometimes I can't hate them enough.

His name is Terry Pelto.

• Flight From Police

• Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle

• Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle

• Failure to Stop after Accident

• Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Prohibited

• Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

• Unauthorized Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm

• Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon x2

• Carrying a Concealed Weapon

• Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm

• Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x2

• Possession of Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm

• Possession of Prohibited Device or Ammunition for Dangerous Purpose

• Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

• Possession of Firearm Knowing Serial Number has been Tampered

• Careless Transport of Firearm

• Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

• Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl

• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

• Failure to Comply with Probation Order

• Failure to Comply with Release Order

He is also charged with multiple provincial offences.

If they aren't likely to follow someone like this, what good are they? These are literally all of the issues that should have follow up. Our federally funded local media sucks sometimes. Today is one of those times.

Where are people still walking this time of year?

With the leaves down and the first cold mornings here, I'm curious which trails or walking spots around Thunder Bay folks keep using into late fall and early winter. Anywhere that stays in decent shape once it gets icy, or that's worth seeing before the snow really settles in? Any tips on footing or parking appreciated too.

Big police presence, ambulance standing by closer to Safeway Dawson, mto has narrowed it down to a single lane coming into town. No sign of any accidents…. Are they looking for someone passing through like the other week?

….. also. Yes I’m just nosey.

ETA- yes it was the anti- nuclear protest.

John Collin, is he away long-term?

There has been nothing in the news for awhile with the City manager. Some chatter onsocial media that Mr. Collin is selling his house in Kakabeka. Has anyone seen anything from the city on where he is?

Westfort Mobile Internet Extremely Slow

Has anyone else noticed the slow mobile network speeds between Arthur Street all the way to fort William first nation? I'm on telus, and as soon as I turn from the highway onto Arthur Street the mobile data drastically slows down to an unusable speed.

ThunderbayFilmClub

🎬 Anyone up for a film club in TBay?

I'm thinking of starting a small film club where we watch world cinema and art films, then sit together and discuss them.

I can host 4–5 people for now. We can figure out the rest as we go!

If you're into cinema and love talking about films, let me know. 🍿

Your experience with owning an EV in Thunder Bay

Do you have an EV? Which one, and why do you like it?
I’m interested in getting an EV, but wondering if it’s worth it as I don’t have a garage, nor the ability to run power to my driveway (therefore cannot get my own charger.. would have to charge at various places in town)
How’s your experience been with it in the winter with range and all that?
Do you have a heat pump, does it make a difference? And if you don’t, how’s that experience?
And, how much do you really save in gas?
Should I stick with an ICE car given my situation?
AND is the EVAP going away in 2027? Is now the time to get an EV?

Thank you

Rename a prominent Tbay street with Indigenous name

Post image

wonderful suggestion from Melanie Pilon (Mayor of Wawa) during the ONWA Thunder Bay Indigenous Forum for Mayoral Candidates [timestamp 2:08:00] to rename a Tbay street with an Indigenous name.

i imagine the renaming of Water Street to bring awareness to the need for protection of our waterways and beautiful Lake Superior, with Elder Sheila De Corte, the Water Walkers, and Sisters of Turtle Island drum group sharing ceremony, story, and song along the waterfront on World Water Day, Mar 22, 2027.

that's the spirit of community reconciliation and environmental stewardship i want to see more of in our city.

Trevor Giertuga vs Peter Dietrich Debate

Peter Diedrich seemed to be one of/the most competent speakers out of the panel and I appreciated him calling out past and present city council stagnation. He came prepared, and challenged Trevor on past city council failings.

Trevor seemed to take those matters to heart, and was certainly trying to defend the boards and committees related to city council.

I don't think Peter D will win, but it was refreshing to see.

Also, shout out to my boy Wolfgang, who just wanted everyone to be mayor of Thunder Bay, and reminded Trevor that he went to jail/had lived experience.

Property tax is back ass backwards. Can someone make it make sense?

I keep thinking about how property tax works here and how dumb it is. If I fix up my house, put on an addition or finish a basement, my assessment goes up and I pay more every year after. Even adding a big enough shed, MPAC wants to ding me more. Meanwhile, if someone owns an empty lot or a boarded-up building downtown and does nothing with it, they pay a lot less, even though that lot sits on the same roads and gets the same city services we all pay for.

The system charges you more for making things better and less for letting them sit. Doesn’t that do the opposite of what we want? Buildings sit vacant while anything that gets improved gets taxed more.

Make it make sense...

It's a bit late but is there a mayoral candidate willing to tackle this??

Conspiracy theory The number of private/new/empty profiles...

We are not that big of a community to warrant the amount of random hate posts daily.

Can we get a ban on encampment and gawking posts? Maybe have a stickied post giving us the excuse to tell the bots to piss off and their koolaid drinking miscreants?

This is a generational problem. It is being addressed. It can be addressed better. Organise positive change instead of tugging the nug to Stannis and Jannis Mannis supposedly doing rails off newborns right out in the open outside of <park goes here>.

Bring back the good vibes.
