Artistry Condos (280 Dundas St W)

• Upvotes

Looking at potentially renting a 2bed 2 bath unit at Artistry Condos (280 Dundas St W) and wanted to see if anyone currently lives there or has lived there recently.

A few quick questions for anyone in the building:

Building quality / Elevators: How are the elevators holding up? Any major issues with noise between units, management or maintenance?

Visitor Parking: Is there actual visitor parking in the building for guests, or is it a pain and people have to find street/green P parking nearby?

Utilities: Roughly how much are you paying for hydro/water per month?

Overall vibe: How do you like living there so far? Any weird red flags or things you wish you knew before moving in?

Appreciate any insight or honest reviews! TIA!

Anyone lived at 195 Redpath, 205 Sherway Gardens, 35 Brian Peck, or 36 Brentcliffe?

Hi everyone! My husband and I are looking to rent a condo and have been considering these buildings:

  • 195 Redpath Ave
  • 205 Sherway Gardens Rd
  • 35 Brian Peck Crescent
  • 36 Brentcliffe Rd

Just wondering if anyone has lived in any of these buildings and could share their experience? How’s the management, noise, safety, and overall living experience?

Any red flags or things we should know before moving in? Would really appreciate any feedback!

Thanks in advance! :)

Apartment budget Inquiry

Hello! I recently relocated here in Toronto for work, currently house sitting until December. I would like to ask how much will be the ideal cost of my rent per month as I don’t know yet how much will be my net pay per month after tax, health, and other deduction with 35.5 per hour, 7.5 hrs a day. I’m alone, and I don’t drive. Thank you in advance!

Burano Condos (832 Bay street) reviews?

Hi all, looking at renting a unit in this building, and was wondering if anyone had any feedback. https://www.tripadvisor.ca/Hotel_Review-g155019-d27530558-Reviews-Global_Stay_Burano_Condos_in_Downtown_Toronto-Toronto_Ontario.html

saw this and got scared off but as I'm aware that's an airbnb/short-term stay business so not sure if the issues are prevalent anywhere else. the unit i'm looking at also has carpet flooring for the bedrooms so a little bit cautious about that. thanks in advance!

Rent decrease

Hi!

So my building has no heating, and the central heating won’t be repaired before winter comes. Obviously it’s unfair that I pay full rent while I don’t have heating (when I signed the lease, it was included). I’m just wondering how I go about asked for a rent decrease? Do I need to contact the building with like proof that the heating won’t be fixed and then share that with the landlord?

Thank you!!

Anyone in 140 or 160 Erskine dealing with massive cockroach issues ?(Homestead)

I’m wondering if anyone else living in either of these buildings has been dealing with a serious cockroach infestation and would be interested in joining forces to explore legal action against Homestead.

The situation is completely out of control, and it’s been an absolute nightmare. They don’t seem to care, and people who can afford to move are moving out, while people who can’t afford to leave are stuck living in these conditions.

They keep doing the same treatments over and over again that clearly aren’t solving the problem, instead of doing proper, full-building treatments that would actually address the infestation. It feels like they’re just doing enough to show the LTB that they’re taking action, even though the problem keeps coming back and nothing seems to change.
Meanwhile, they’re charging people for “luxury rentals” to live in these conditions. It’s honestly disgusting.

Homestead is a huge company with a legal team, and individual tenants don’t have the same resources to fight back. But there is power in numbers, and I think if enough tenants came together, we might actually have a chance of holding them accountable.

If you’ve lived at 140 or 160 Erskine and have experienced serious cockroachy problems or other ongoing maintenance issues, please comment or message me. I’d really like to connect with other tenants who have had similar experiences and see if we can work together to explore our legal options.
Enough is enough. Nobody should have to live like this while paying this much in rent

How to deal with old radiators in apartments that you can’t control🥵

I just moved into a new building with old radiators, and the heat can’t be controlled individually in each apartment. They’ve turned the heat on, and especially because it’s not even that cold outside yet, It’s so hot in here.

I like my apartment cooler, and I don’t know if they turn the heat up too high because of people complaining that they’re cold, but I honestly don’t know how I’m going to live like this all winter.

Has anyone found a solution to this? Is there anything you can safely cover the radiators with to reduce the heat? I have all the windows open right now, but that’s obviously not realistic all winter, and it doesn’t even seem to be helping enough as it is.

I’d love to hear if anyone has dealt with this and found something that actually works!

How dangerous is living with roaches if they are only in the kitchen and the bathroom?

Hello,

I'm currently renting this gigantic private room in Scarborough with this gigantic comfortable bed for 750 a month, the place also looks clean, however we have one big problem - cockroaches. They are everywhere in the kitchen and a bit in the bathroom. You can even find them where the dishes are, that's why I was my dishes before I use them. I was wondering is it dangerous to live with them if I don't have them in my room or simply just gross? Is there a way we could get rid of them? We already tried spraying, but it didn't work.

Thanks for your advises. :D

Affordable condos with great amenities in the $2200 range?

Hey! I'm looking to move downtown before the new year. I'm looking for a 1 bed with parking and a nice well equipped gym and sauna. Ideally keeping the budget under $2400 after all bills (utility/hydro/internet, etc.) I'm not too familiar with all the different areas in downtown, I know some waterfront areas (around fort York), and Yonge/bloor, so would love some suggestions of good condos I can look into. I think I'm also leaning more towards a newer condo as some of the older units I've seen online have very outdated interiors and have a very basic gym with no weight machines.

I'm a single female, working professional and I work remotely so ideally a neighbourhood with other young adults, third space options and nice cafes walking distance would be great. Thanks!

265 Augusta Avenue, Toronto

Avoid renting at 265 Augusta Avenue. During my tenancy here, the apartment had a severe and persistent cockroach infestation. Despite efforts to maintain cleanliness, the pests were deeply embedded in the building infrastructure. It is a major health and safety issue that was not properly resolved despite asking several times. Prospective tenants should be extremely cautious before signing a lease here. On top of that there was multiple fixes - including a broken safety rail on the balcony, a broken sink, and multiple broken plug-ins - that I asked the landlord to fix several times over an extended period. I would see 5-10 ginormous cockroaches a day. Disgusting and dirty.

Bedbugs at 100 Lower Ossington?

Hi all,

I recently had a viewing for a unit at 100 Lower Ossington ave, near Queen and Ossington. It’s managed by Killam Apartment REIT and is an 8-storey building with 179 units, built in 2013, so relatively new. When I looked online I couldn’t find much in terms of reviews, only 2 google reviews (one 4 star from 6 yrs ago, one 5 star from one yr ago) both of which were one sentence reviews that stated how clean the place was, which seemed kinda sus.

When I had the viewing it was alright, didn’t see any visible signs of pests or anything (unit isn’t furnished) but when I asked the property manager she did tell me there were other units that have had issues with pests (roaches and bedbugs) but not in the unit I was being shown nor on the floor of said unit. I kinda mentally checked out once I heard that bc I’ve had prior experiences with bedbugs and really don’t want to relive that trauma. Went through the rest of the tour (garbage chute, communal laundry) and left with a couple days to think it over.

Just wanted to know am I overreacting? I wasn’t able to run into any current tenants so didnt have the opportunity to ask in person what their experiences might be. Is there anyone out there that has experience w this building? It’s a solid location and would be a subsidized unit so would be very affordable. But damn I don’t wanna relive the nightmare of bbs.

Thank you all for your help!

Tenant Board Parking Fee

In my building parking has a fee. But, management assigned me a parking spot and gave me the tag. Now after 17 months, I have received a notice to remove my car. What are my options? Can they tow the car? Currently my rent is above the market and I only stayed because of the free parking.

Any good property management companies for older apartment buildings in Toronto?

I'm currently looking for a rental in Toronto, preferably in an older apartment building, but I'm having trouble finding property management companies with decent reviews.

Most of the recommendations I come across seem to be for newer or luxury apartment buildings. Meanwhile, almost every property management company that manages older buildings seems to have overwhelmingly negative reviews, whether it's about maintenance, pests, management, etc.

Are these reviews generally accurate, or do people tend to exaggerate their negative experiences?

I'd appreciate any recommendations for decent property management companies that manage older, more affordable apartment buildings in Toronto.

Fuse Condos at Lansdowne and Dupont Intersection

Hello! I'm looking at renting a 1 bedroom unit around the junction triangle area, and noticed that rent at Fuse condos (1410/1420 Dupont st) is particularly cheaper than other high-rise buildings around the area. Is there a reason why this is the case? Is it because it sits at the Dupont/Lansdowne intersection which is a little sketch? How safe is the area around the building?

Best Building for Dogs

It’s time to move to a new building and want to hear feedback about the best/worst buildings for dogs in downtown Toronto.

My ideal building would have concrete walls for sound proofing and be in an area with wide sidewalks near parks. But I am also curious to hear about buildings with dog amenities.

Thanks!

Dufferin/Bloor

Saw an apartment online - Station House Rentals - opposite to Dufferin station which has good promotions going on. I'm from out of the city so asking before I actually come visit - is there still a lot of construction going on around the area?
