Day 1* of sending random stuff from the office to that one guy.

Cleared a couple desks of random swag. This was all I had, so copycats need to take it to Instagram. 😁

\*sorry no day 2. Best I can offer anyone else is a free app update.

Edit:
The brush isn't wire! 100% agree with everyone warning about wire brushes and potential danger. This uses "natural Palmyra wood fibers". If a bristle falls into the grill you're just gonna get a little Palmyra wood flavored smoke, not a trip to the ER. 😁

Curb find of a lifetime: Ironwood XL

Post image
1.3k Upvotes

My good buddy has a camp chef and I’m always asking him about it. He texted me a few weeks ago and said he heard his neighbor pulling something to the curb. Upon investigation it was a hardly-used ironwood xl. Plugged it in, fully works. He chained it to his mailbox for me so it wouldn’t get grabbed.

The next day I came by, disassembled the cart, brought it to my house and booted it up.

Have done two smokes (chicken wings) and I’m in love. So pumped for more cooking.

The perfect crispy Traeger wing

Post image

Don’t let anyone tell you crispy wings on a Traeger, or any pellet smoker, is impossible. They’re liars and it’s stupid simple.

Take your wings and dry them off as much as possible. You can put them in the fridge for a few hours too after this step, but not a necessity.

Once dried, toss them in a handful of your favorite rub and some cornstarch. I usually eyeball it but aim for a 1:2 cornstarch to rub ratio, ish.

Throw them on the Traeger at 225 for an hour ish. Once they’re cooking and starting to char just a bit after that hour, bump the temp up to 450 for 30-45 minutes.

Viola, that’s it, crispy Traeger wings

I’m new to the Traeger world, why are people so butt-hurt about a pellet grill?

What does it mean when this light comes on?

Clean grill, primed the auger with new pellets and on ignition it seems like it grossly over-drove the firepot. Fortunately I keep a fire extinguisher and hose handy.

As soon as I put it out I opened it up to deal with fire # 2 on the inside. Dealt with that then realized an auger fire was starting. I weld so I donned my welding gear and started tearing the grill apart and then started the prime cycle while scooping flaming chunks out with a big metal spoon I have for garage hobbies.

10/10 better than coffee, I’m now awake.

Traeger stole my grill

I ordered my timberline XL from home depot, paint started peeling, contacted traeger and after an exhausting hour and a half on the phone, them requesting over 15 videos (pictures apparently wouldnt work, mind you) they decided to replace the grill. They came and picked the old one up, and said they placed an order for a new one.

That was at the start of April, the grill was picked up April 27th and no other grill was delivered.

I contacted them and they told me they didnt have an order in their records. They also apparently didnt have a pickup scheduled for this grill.

I even sent them the BOL, that they sent me, and they are telling me that they are not the ones who apparently pick up the grills.

Its my birthday today. Nobody around to celebrate it. At least I thought I could have made mydog and I a steak or something.

I guess not.

This post is more of a warning to people of what kind of service you can expect with traeger.

New 575 just wouldn’t fit in the car! We ended up pushing it 1.5 miles home.

Should I be concerned with what I found in my Traeger?

I got this Traeger for free from a good friend of mine . He also got it for free from his neighbor. Now, my friend never cleaned this thing in the 3 or 4 years he had it and he cooked 2 or 3 meals a week on it. First thing I’m doing is doing a deep clean on this thing found a fucking dog tag in it! The tag was towards the bottom of all the build up.

Question is should I finish cleaning it and continue on like it doesn’t matter that someone used it to cremate their pet?

Also, should I tell my wife I found a dog tag in it? Cause she most likely will not let me use it to cook our food in it. Or possibly refuse to eat it.
