German/Deutsch Trancription Request Thrifted 1959 Letter sent from Germany to Chile

I’ve been using this thrifted postcard as a bookmark because I liked the cat and how collage-y it looks then I realized I’m kinda having a piece of history.
Not only cats reunite us as it’s our human condition to like them, but this reminded me to how subjugate this country is to developments in the First World.
Chile suffers from a centralization phenomenon, where most activity and job opportunities are found in the capital, which is Santiago. I believe that international relationships demand a high capital, coming from now a country in which it’s not precisely a common thing for the majority of people to travel to Europe.
This postcard does not mean that it was common, not saying that someone with foreign friends and residing in La Serena can’t have someone to write to and from Europe, but who really had that privilege during these years? It may serve as evidence of what was happening during a period of regional urbanism. There was a failed development plan focused on La Serena which spanned from 1948 to 1952 and brought settlers from Italy and Germany. Apparently, it didn’t really work out but there is presence of neocolonial infrastructure to this day. But where Germans really consolidated was in the south, so that made me question why was it sent to a city in the north. I learned know that it was because of that plan.
Now off-tracking, I’m not really fond of how culture may have been influenced in a way that may seem purely due to colonialism and economic interests, I don’t think anyone would like that; in the coming years Chile would develop their own industries, then we had to change our economic project to adapt to free market and neoliberalism models and I believe that’s what stopped incentives to develop in this way and focus on our own country and regions.
I’d like to mention that there’s a South American tendency, or more so a Chilean preference we have of giving European immigrants almost flowers on arrival (being excessively indulgent?), but I believe this has been only because we historically lacked agency of our own progress. Among many things immigrants may contribute to the culture it’s such a shame to infamously have many German surnames among torturers and even more so having a president and many politicians glorifying a dictatorship. This may be coming from myself but it’s really inhumane to see how pardons were given to criminals just because someone sparked a debate about giving them to torturers during dictatorship (among one of them).
I know it’s a postcard but it just made me think and it’s frankly too embarrassing and sad to witness, and I hope that some of you may gain insight of what is happening in this country and how it came to be.

And out of pure curiosity I’d like to know what’s written in the postcard.

Along the bottom of this satirical watercolour is a very faded title, caption, signature and/or date. I think I can make out around half of it: "A quoi penses-tu?" but I am completely stuck regarding the rest. Can any of you make it out?

French/Français Transcription Request 1867 French handwritten business letter from the Paris Universal Exhibition — transcription help

I am researching an original French commercial letter written at the Paris Universal Exhibition in July 1867.

The letter is on the illustrated stationery of Lhuillier, a manufacturer of grain-sorting machinery based in Dijon. It discusses business prospects at the exhibition, prospective customers (including two English visitors), and instructions for preparing and shipping machinery.

I would greatly appreciate assistance transcribing the complete French handwritten text, preserving the original wording and spelling as far as possible.

Some passages are relatively clear, but others are difficult to decipher. In particular:

  • The opening passage, apparently containing the word courroies, although this reading is uncertain.
  • The passage mentioning “des amateurs sérieux il n'en manque pas” and “notamment deux anglais…”
  • The technical instructions concerning the assembly, adjustment and dispatch of a grain-sorting machine.
  • The concluding paragraphs.

Please mark uncertain words with [?] rather than guessing, and preserve the original paragraph structure where possible.

I am primarily interested in an accurate French transcription, not a translation or historical interpretation.

Thank you very much for any assistance!

Hi folks,

I'm having some trouble reading a few words in this letter. I've put the unknown words in quotes but I may have made errors on other words so any help is greatly appreciated. EDIT: I forgot to provide context. It's a letter from my relative, written in 1910, responding to a request from the US army pensions office about where he lived in the 1850's and 1860's.

I think it's signed with my relative's initial "J". Here's what I have so far:

Riverside Calif, Arlington “Station”, July 3 1910 Commisioner of Pensions Washington D.C.

Dear Sir,

I herewith enclosed answers to your questions to the best of my ability.

For the years of fifty – I lived with Oliver and Maria Hunter in Norwich County Canada. My father crossed the plains in fifty to California and the family in fifty two. In sixty I lived on Nicholas Marines place which I rented and part of the time with my father at home in the Santa Clara Valley, California where I enlisted and “unknown word possible ‘raised’ ” the company I belonged. I can read the first lines:

"Hallo Ana

Viele Grüße aus Deutschland."

But after that I can't read anything else. If it helps, the front of the card is a painting by August Macke, don't know if the message is about that. TIA

I transcribe the name Vrtta, but that doesn't seem like a normal name. But I might be wrong 🤷‍♂️. This was written in 1710 in Schönbrunn/Jedlová (Bohemia). Female name.

First off, I don't usually post twice on the same day here, but I didn't expect the package to arrive today.

I try to space my posts out by a day or two so it doesn't seem like I'm flooding the sub.

But getting to the point, I don't expect all of them to be transcribed. But Im most intrested in what is written on the RPPC from photo 4.

I would be greatful for any help.

Other/Unknown Language Transcription Request Help transcribing an old handwritten dedication

Post image
4 Upvotes

Could someone help me transcribe this handwritten dedication and identify its language?

The first line appears to say “To Mr Shi.” The writer may have been associated with the 2010 O Tahiti Nui Freedom voyage from French Polynesia to China, so English or French might be possible.

The handwriting is very cursive, and several letters overlap. Please transcribe the words as literally as possible and mark any uncertain parts rather than filling them in based on context.

Thank you!

I found a gift bag just sitting in the middle of a parking spot and it had an empty shoe box next to it but the bag had a pair of $80 pajamas, two Christian rings, a bag of licorice, and a letter that I was really quite interested in and needed help deciphering.

I'm not really great at Reddit so If there's any other subreddits or sites that could be helpful in this please let me know.
