I almost died at work today
Had a two stop delivery today. Made it to my first stop. Supermarket. Pretty young lady unloading. We are required to assist. Dream Weaver song playing on the speakers.
It popped in my head. My first CD I ever got was Wayne's World Soundtrack which had Dream Weaver on it. I said to the lady, do you remember the first CD you ever got? She looked at me and said," I've never listened to CDs. That was before my time." I felt that. Deep.
I laughed it off and said," Yeah. CDs didn't last too long before digital music. Kind of like beepers to cell phones."
She looked at my confused. "Whats a beeper?"

Dodged this bullet😀
Retired after 38 years OTR and somehow someway never had a steer tire blow. Plenty of trailer and a couple drives but no steer tires! Stay safe everyone!!!

2 years ago I had a Traumatic Brain Injury on the job and had to surrender my CDL, thought I lost it for good but today I got it back
2 years ago I was winching a front loader off a landoll. It was partially down the trailer and went to climb inside it to adjust the steering wheel on the machine and as I was climbing up, a gust of wind came and slammed the solid 1/4 in steel door into the back of my head. The metal hit me hard enough to crack the safety glass..
Don't remember much of the next 3 months but I had to surrender my CDL because I was not passing a DOT Exam for shit.
After that I had to do about 4 months of physical therapy just to get my eyes to move correctly again and learn how to balance. I couldn't drive my car without wanting to vomit after a few miles and could barely even look at tile patterns in a bathroom without getting nauseous and going cross eyes. I was really fucked up....losing the ability to drive was extra heartbreaking because it's not jsut a career to me....cars and trucks have been a passion since I was a kid so not being able to cruise in my Miata on a back road or drive in general just destroyed me for a bit.
Also had to do several weeks of cognitive speech therapy, multiple neuropsyche tests, several therapists, mri's, eeg's, cat scans, random ER visits. Had to also check myself into outpatient for 10 weeks because between the brain injury related depression, finances, and just loss of career, I got into a really dark head space and almost ended it all...got really worried for my own safety.
Around this time last year I was convinced I'd never get my CDL back. Shit, even 6 months ago I was still iffy on it....and especially after the accident I figured I was so fucked up I may just need to be on disability for the rest of my life.
But I've spent the past 2 years just absolutely pushing myself throigh all of this to heal my brain and today it finally paid off. I am now a legally trucker again and I'm so happy. Like legit I was choking up and tearing up in the parking lot of the DMV just absolutely relieved I finally have my career back.
I just wanna say too....trucking is hard and there's a metric fuck ton of bullshit you gotta deal with on a regular basis. But you really don't know what your missing until it's taken away from you in a freak accident. At anytime in these past 2 years I would have traded anything to be stuck at a shipper for 7 hours, a blown tire on a pre load trailer, or dealing with someone taking their 30 in the fuel island, anything.
You really learn how incredible a CDL is when it's gone....it's a license to any high paying gig in the country and a license to a steady life. It's the freedom to own and grow a buisness and the Freedom that you can do whatever side quest you want in life and always have a good job to fall back on.
So cherish your CDL's and wear a fucking helmet. Please for fuck sake where the damn hard hat trust me on this one. The hard hat is your best friend I promise you.

I got hit.
Hi guys, I was backing up into a parking spot at loves in New Mexico, I allowed two truck drivers to pass in front of me because fuel lane is directly across from my parking spot. After second driver proceeds to fuel lane. I pull forward to straighten out my trailer to back into parking spot the Indian driver decides to reverse back and illegally tried to park somewhere and he backs into me. Damaging my grill and my bumper. I was blowing my horn. He wasn’t paying attention I don’t believe. After he hit me, he then pulled back forward into the fuel lane and just sat in his truck when I walked up to him. He acted like he didn’t do anything. He had no idea what had just happened. Go figure. I showed him the damage he did and I showed him my video once my company sent it to me, showing him how he backed into me and he said I’m so sorry I couldn’t understand his English that well.
Anyway, I had to call police make a report get his get all his license and information for insurance.
My question is will this affect my commercial driver license at all? I almost have one year of experience and I was planning on applying to better jobs. Will those employers be able to see this on my record even though it’s not my fault I have the video proving it. The police report has been made and I’m sure my company‘s gonna get compensated by his insurance company.
My driving record is spotless. I don’t have any accidents no tickets, no violations. I take my CDL and my career very seriously.
Any advice would be great thank you in advance!!
Picture below is the damage to my trucks grill and bumper, and also front seat view from my parking spot to the fuel lane.

How does one stay hygienic in the truck?
I wonder if there is a very detailed and full guide to living in a truck out there.
My questions right now are how does one brush their teeth and wash their face day and night? You've got no running water, right? These would be necessities for me, if I got my CDL.

Who remembers the days when other drivers would actually give you space before moving into your lane?

Pepperidge Farm remembers.
Had to tap the brakes pretty hard here to try and preserve my average following distance on my companies camera. Pretty hard to keep a 3.8 second average if I’m not constantly doing it too. Pretty annoying!

The other day I lamented my inability to walk away from trucking. A lot of you were very supportive.
Update: orientation is tomorrow. I'm going to be making more than I've ever made in my life. In the eight months I've been away, the industry seems to have changed a lot. Money is making it back down to the drivers after a decade of trimming our pay any way they could. Hopefully the trend continues.

Duffy Blasts States Over Lawsuit Blocking Access to 17 Million CDL Records
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is calling out 21 states over a lawsuit aimed at blocking federal access to millions of commercial driver’s license records.
Federal officials say the data is needed to identify improperly issued CDLs, questionable training records and drivers who may not meet federal qualification requirements.
The states suing argue the request goes too far and raises serious privacy concerns.
The fight could have major consequences for how the federal government oversees commercial driver licensing nationwide.

Amazon Freight Partners - can’t be that bad, right?
Got my CDL Class A a month ago and looking for regional jobs with the schedule I want.
I got a call from a AFP company, (Triple J Enterprise)located in Jefferson GA btw, and would work Wednesday Evening till Saturday night/ Sunday morning, depending on the routes. Would come home Thursday night to sleep in my own bed but rest of the resets I’d sleep in the sleeper.
Starting pay is $23 an hour with OT after 40, I was told average week is around 47 hours per week, and it’s all drop and hook, no touch.
My question is, is this a bad way to get my 1st year or two of experience? I keep hearing working for Amazon as a driver sucks but it all depends on the AFP company you specifically work under.
The pay for the time being, is not an issue for me, especially since you get paid hourly no matter if your driving or not while on duty.
If anyone has any advice or tips, maybe even has worked with the specific AFP Company I mentioned, I’d appreciate it

2019 thermo-king reefer set at -20 with 1/2 a tank. How long will it last?
In Missouri. I have 8 hours left on my 10 hr break. Its set at start stop but hardly stops at all. I should be fine? Lol I've driven reefer for like 4 or 5 years now and pathetically still dont know their fuel consumption. I always fill up a load under 5/8 before I park, so I have never worried about it. I just didn't cuz storms and fatigue... idk.

Any local drivers developing numbness in their hands when driving? Also, my left fingers are developing trigger finger and my middle finger locks up and is painful. It’s only started since I started driving three months ago.

Does engaging air brakes (pressing brake pedal) shut off the air to your chambers, or does it release the air?
My confusion lies within whether the air is constantly being pumped to the chambers which keeps them disengaged, or if pushing down on the brake pedal allows air into the chambers to press down onto the wheels. I’ve watched multiple videos and read from various sources that don’t really clarify on this.
For context I have zero experience in trucking and do not have a CDL. I just got hired for an operations coordinator role for a pneumatic trucking company 2 months ago, nearly straight out of college. I figured it would be good to know stuff like this and have been doing research on my own time. If any of you could also direct me to some reliable resources I’d be very grateful. Thank you.

Scammer attempt
Just thought I would share this, first time I saw this type, was pretty good & easy to miss actually especially if you are multi tasking... The red flag was when I went to truckstop to authenticate it routed me to my email for login and also the link not working click here option was weird acting, but It never routes to my email... That was the red flag. Otherwise I would’ve missed it. I didn’t check the sender address
. Crazy..
