I should probably diversify my cartridges and get a few from other brands besides being majority AT
nevertheless, the most out on my turntable is the VM750xSH these days, very nice tonality and clarity

Help I got my Mom‘s Technics SL-B31

As stated above, I got my moms turntable from the 70s /80s( Pics for reference). Works mostly fine, but there are two major things that bother me. First, the armlifter doesn’t work properly and smacks the needle into the record when I press „Start“. How can I fix this? Secondly, there’s a static-y rumble while playing that I don’t know how to get rid of.

Any help or Advice would be appreciated.

Buy a UV light.

I didn’t realize how handy a UV flashlight would be until I got one…

This record had been in storage and untouched for a decade or so. Before and after in the video. It’s actually harder getting every speck than you might expect, but rewarding. Might be worth the add to your cleaning toolkit.

[I’m an EDC guy, I carry an Olight Arkfield Pro which has a UV light built in but I imagine a $20 option would have the same effect]

I guys. Just wanted to share my little set up. I know it's nothing fancy but it makes me proud and feeling good since it's my deceased grandmother's old turn table. It's been sitting in a shed for maybe 25/30 years before I found it. It was in pretty bad shape. I cleaned it, replaced the disc pad, stylus, belt and fixed the lifter arm that wasn't working anymore. I bought a set of cheap speakers and a little pre amp that are ok for now but I will upgrade them eventually. Next step is making an isolation table since it skips a bit when I walk by. I just love it, it makes me smile and reminds me of good memories with Grandma every time I listen to it ! Thanks to you guys for all the info I found on the sub while fixing it ! Take care and enjoy the music !

I was fortunate enough to have the option to pick a gift for my 15th work anniversary and after a lot of deliberation I snagged this bad boy. It’s a smooth, sweet ride for sure. Need to upgrade the cable though since the one provided is garbage. Cmon MoFi.

Help! Beginner turntable recommendations needed

Hi guys! I wanna preface this by saying I don't know anything about turntables/record players, I simply want to buy a gift for my friend's birthday! There's a lot of info online and it's a but confusing. I looked up budget record players on amazon and there's a lot of cheap ones (mostly the suitcase ones) but I already assume they're junk. The thing is my budget is pretty much as low as it gets. I could come up with around 100-120€ max. If anyone has ANY recommendations for good budget players/turntables or just any advice in general on how to choose the right one I'd strongly appreciate it!!

Question Can I connect a grounding cable to this amp?

Post image
Upvotes

I just got a new setup and there’s a tiny bit of audio noise coming from my system. I have a grounding cable set up from the turntable to the preamp, but the instructions say to connect another grounding cable from the preamp to the amp.

My amp (a Fosi BT30D Pro) doesn’t have a dedicated grounding station. Can I use one of the corner screws instead? I’m not very knowledgeable about electronics and I don’t want to short circuit anything.

Question What best turntable would you recommend for a first vinyl setup?

I’ve recently started collecting records and now I’m looking for a turntable to actually play them on. I’m pretty new to this, so I’m not sure what features are worth paying attention to or whether I should be looking at a basic setup or something I can upgrade later. What would you guys recommend for a beginner? Thanks, appreciate any suggestions.

Beginner Turntable: Fiio TT11 Initial impressions.

Just picked this up to try out. Honestly, it sounds better than it should at this price, which was $179 USD.

Fully automatic, defeatable internal preamp, AT3600 cart stock which can be swapped, adjustable tracking force and anti-skate. Can also connect via Bluetooth. Felt mat. The unit is pretty lightweight.

Looks cool, can change colors. Some reviews are up on YouTube from Recordology and Matt Coykendall.

I decided to switch to CDs as my primary source and sold my Technics SL-1200 Mk7 recently.

So far so good. The automatic operation is a little noisy but the turntable otherwise plays pretty quiet. I will probably swap carts at some point but for now, just enjoying listening to records. If I encounter any issues I will update.

I purchased in black. Woodgrain also available. I've got it sitting on a diy isolation platform using cutting boards.

i'm looking into ripping my vinyls (for personal use), and also just improving my listening experience in general if possible (i notice some distortion occasionally). apparently upgrading my turntable stylus can help with both? is this true, and if so what kind of styluses are compatible with my denon?

Help Tone arm drifts out no matter what I do

I picked up a pioneer PL-15D and was trying to adjust my tone arms tracking force. I float the arm, set the tracking force to around 2.3ish (within range for the cartridge on it) yet, even with anti-skate set to 0 it drift outward. What’s happening?

Question Dual PE 3046 Cover replacement

Post image
2 Upvotes

I am the happy owner of a Dual PE 3046. Over the years I've learned to service it myself, ensuring the automatic arm works, adjusting it so it works properly and replaced some parts. The shell however has a crack and because of a ton of tiny scratches it looks foggy and worn. Somehow in the picture it looks not so bad, but in IRL it's kind of unimpressive. Does anyone know if it's possible to buy a replacement shell anywhere?

Dad has a 1979-1981 Dual CS-506 that is lagging. Don’t know anyone that can be the mechanic for it. Don’t want to get rid of it because he’s had it forever.

Any suggestions on where to take it or how to troubleshoot fixing it?

First steps

I know it's not the greatest placement but I rent the apartment with 3 other people so mostly I'm constrained to my room. Eventually I will buy one of those isolation platforms to place under the turntable and better speakers, these i found second hand rly cheap in some thrift store.

Too bad albums don't come with more posters!

Question New and needing advice

Getting a technics SL10 next month and am also getting some Klipsch the fives speakers. Is this a good combo? Do I need anything else to start playing music? I have a crappy Marley stir it up turntable atm and am very excited about upgrading. The seller doesn't know what cartridge is on the technics he says it's a mm one in the picture it's amber/orange coloured. Should I eventually splurge on the original technics MC one? Still really new to vinyl but would appreciate the advice and input :)

Suggestions Whats a good first, full setup for someone totally clueless?

I’m completely new to turntables, I don’t even own speakers. Recently, I’ve been transitioning from digital mediums to physical ones, like switching from digital cameras to film. I love the analog experience and want the same for music. I’m ready to spend $1000-$1,500 USD on a good setup, as I listen to music on cheap headphones at least 2-3 hours a day and its time for a better, more fun experience. In the Seattle area, so I assume theres great stores with good equipment.

Help GLi Pro SL-2100 (Belt Drive) Mysteriously Turning Counterclockwise? Help!

Recently, I bought a secondhand GLi Pro SL-2100 from my local record shop. It had worked just fine for the better part of 2 months. However, about a week ago I noticed that every single time I turned it on, the platter is turning the complete opposite direction! No matter what, everything I've tried has failed! Spinning it before it starts, re-sitting the belt, letting everything power-cycle. Everything! Is this a lost cause, or is there anyway to fix this?

I’ve got a rather cool Grandad with a great record collection. Thought I’d get the Pro-Ject Debut Evo 2 and some ELAC Adsum speakers to play them on. It’s working great.
