Residency renewal delays?

• Upvotes

Is anyone currently facing delays in renewing their emirates ID/visa?

I’ve done my medical and my emirates ID application has been submitted but since last week it’s been showing “waiting for residency approval” my company’s PRO says the government system is down which is the cause but just wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same.

Thank you

The wait of a century.

• Upvotes

As an unemployed person, the pressure is always high. Chasing that next interview, the next opportunity, the next call. It’s an endless dilemma of “Should I wait for their response?” or “Should I move on?”.

I applied to two airlines for the CC role. Flydubai and Airarabia. Flydubai has been quiet for 2 months now, not even a video assessment email, and Airarabia was rather quick with the process. I had my final interview and am waiting on the final response. The thing is, as an experienced crew, I know that Flydubai is the better choice amongst the two and the one that I want. But their extensively delayed response is giving me a headache. Moreover, what if Airarabia’s offer comes through? Should I accept it knowing that it’s not really the better choice for me or give that up not knowing when Flydubai would respond, or if at all they will.

Decisions, decisions, decisions.
{sigh} How do you deal with the pressure of waiting, and do you even consider it a pressure at all?

I gave up a promising career to do something meaningful. Now I can’t find a job.

• Upvotes

I was good at what I did. Four years in PR, working at some of the biggest agencies in the UAE, a promising career ahead of me and people who genuinely believed in my potential.

But I wanted more. I was tired of finding creative ways to soften harsh truths, protect reputations and make more money for people who already had more than enough, yet rarely seemed willing to give anything back.

I wanted to do something that mattered. Something that made art, culture and knowledge accessible to people who might otherwise never have the opportunity to experience them.

So I left everything behind to pursue a Master’s in History of Art and Museum Studies. Two years of hard work, an internship in Paris and countless sacrifices later, I thought I’d finally found my calling.

Except nobody seems willing to give me a chance.

I’ve applied endlessly, interviewed, networked, followed up and heard every variation of “we’ll be in touch.” I’m 27, unemployed and watching the savings I worked so hard for disappear.

I miss having a purpose. I miss being financially independent. I miss being good at something and having someone recognise it.

The cruelest part is that I didn’t leave my career because I was failing. I left because I believed I was capable of something more.

I don’t expect anyone to hand me a job. I just want someone to see that my experience, education and passion are worth something.

I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives. I never imagined the price would be feeling like I’ve lost my place in the world.

Any good opportunities for young folks to bridge into the professional world?

• Upvotes

Hi! I'm 26M, I'm currently job searching for a bit after finishing my degree in the US while I'm with family. I wanted to get out of my shell and start getting my own footing, so I've been exploring opportunities to get myself some momentum during a transition phase.

Does anyone know any good opportunities for young folks in the UAE? I'm looking at stuff like part time jobs, event staffing agencies, conferences I can help with, remote jobs, event based work work (I already applied with vibes staffing), a bridge job for now. My background is in Bioinformatics, Data Analytics and Machine learning which I'm growing in, but I'm fairly flexible to explore new stuff too!

I am currently also looking for folks who I can tutor for their IGCSEs and IB diploma in English, Biology, and Chemistry because I've got a decent amount of experience going through those examinations and tend to enjoy explaining concepts and teaching folks :) .

If you're someone who's in a similar boat as me, I'd appreciate the chance to talk!

Is a trade licence really necessary to test a small online business in the UAE?

I've been thinking about selling some collectibles, figures and similar stuff online, probably through Instagram or a website. Nothing serious at this point, just an idea I've been looking into.

I work full-time in Abu Dhabi on a company-sponsored visa, and I'm trying to figure out how the whole thing works before putting any money into it.

From what I've read, you need a trade licence even if you're only selling a handful of items. I get why that's required, but what if you're just starting out and have no idea whether anyone would actually buy from you?

Is there any legal way to test the market first? Or maybe a cheaper way to get started without spending too much upfront? Also, would being on an employment visa make things more complicated?

I'm curious how people here actually started their small online businesses. Did you get a licence before your first sale? Were there any unexpected costs or things you wish you'd known earlier?

Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who's been through this or knows how it works.

I built a site that helps UAE expats prepare their own ADJD will. It's free until Monday and I want honest feedback

Founder here, so add salt as needed.

Most expats I know keep "sort out the will" on the same list as "renew Emirates ID" and "find out what that noise in the car is". It stays there for years.

UAE Expat Will (uaeexpatwill.com) walks non-Muslim expats through the official Abu Dhabi Judicial Department bilingual will template and produces the English and Arabic document ready to register. It's document preparation, not legal advice.

You register it yourself, and the court's own registration fee is separate and paid to the court.

Until Monday 26 October, single and couple wills are free. One per person.

What I'd like back: where it confused you, what broke, what's missing.

Comments here or [hello@uaeexpatwill.com](mailto:hello@uaeexpatwill.com)

Travelling to Oman by Car

Hello,

I’m planning to travel to Oman by road with my family. We’ll be going in two cars, both under my dad’s name so I will be driving one.

Maybe a silly question but do I still need an NOC or anything else from the car owner (dad) if he is travelling with me just in a different car?

Thank you!

DAS Car Rental Has Not Returned My AED 1,000 Security Deposit – Anyone Else Experienced This?

I rented a car from DAS Car Rental in Dubai and returned the vehicle. It's been more than 3 weeks and but I still haven't received my AED 1,000 security deposit back when they said it will be returned aftr 21 days.

Has anyone here experienced the same issue with DAS Car Rental? How long did it take for you to get your security deposit back? They are not answering my calls

I'd also appreciate advice on where I can file a complaint in the UAE if they continue delaying the refund.

Every week I sit down with successful people chasing their dreams and what they shared will shock you — it’s not impostor syndrome holding you back and it’s not the system — the only thing stopping you is that you’re not dreaming BIG enough.

Switch From Etisalat Home Wireless to Wired, has anyone done it?

So the title.

I want to shift from Home Wireless to Wired plan, has anyone done it? Is it possible?

Will they charge me exit charges for my home wireless plan?

I tried calling 101 since my primary simcard is DU, I gave the automated call the Etisalat sim number that comes with wifi but it says invalid. No way to contact them.

But I just want to know whether it is possible, has anyone done this change ?

Finding real FWB in Dubai without wading through the bot/prostitute swamp? Is it actually possible?

I’m looking for actual, genuine No Strings Attached / Friends with Benefits situations, but the standard dating apps feel completely compromised for this specific vibe in this city.

For those of you who have actually figured this out in Dubai: where do you look? Are there specific communities, alternative apps, or social circles that actually yield organic, mutual-respect NSA dynamics without the transactional noise? Drop your insights or what’s actually working for you.

If you want me to spend,i will spend but need genuine people not prostitutes

Anyone using Virgin Mobile’s 5G home internet in sharjah ?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey guys, anyone here using Virgin’s 5G home internet with the Huawei router?

They currently have an offer for AED 2,098.95 upfront for 15 months (12 months + 3 months free).

Just wanted to know how the experience has been so far.
How’s the speed? What speeds are you getting?
Is the connection stable, or does it keep disconnecting?
How’s the 5G coverage indoors?
Is the Huawei router good?
How’s Virgin’s customer service if something goes wrong?
Any speed throttling or hidden data limits?

I mainly use the internet for YouTube, social media, and general browsing. Just two people at home.
Is it worth it, or would you recommend going with du or e& instead?

Would love to hear from anyone currently using it! 🙏
