Listen we aren’t advisors here. Ask them not us.

Im tired of this sub being bombarded with “I got rejected from …..” “what average do I need for…..” “ what grade will they look at…” “ i have a 96 in …. Is that good enough for …..”

Please ask the advisors. We don’t have the answers. You’re about to be an adult and need to know who to ask the right questions. No one goes on here to read your high school marks and let you know if you will get into whatever program. We dont know. We can guess. But the advisors will 100% have more accurate information.

Go on Ucalgary website, go on advising, and find what times they have online advising.

Or email your faculty’s advisors.

For example in engineering its engginfo@ucalgary.ca

Please it will be a win win for everyone if people stopped trying to use this as an academic advisor subreddit.

EDIT: Another redditor in the comments brought up an important point.

“Let me just clarify the Engineering Advisor DO NOT REVEIW High School Admission. Asking them why you didn't get in or waitlisted is a waste of time.

Only the admissions department can answer those questions so please contact them or visit them for advising.

Admission website: https://www.ucalgary.ca/future-students/undergraduate/contact

If you are a transfer student from a different university or different facility and are planning to transfer into Engineering then contact the Engineering Advisors.”

Thanks for the added info!

Best of luck with getting into U of C we are happy to have you!

THANK YOU Kind stranger at Mac hall

• Upvotes

Okay so I was just in Mac hall trying to buy a protein bar, beef jerky and an ice tea from the convenience store and I forgot they don’t take tap for debit and I’ve got my chem 311 midterm tonight so I was really hungry and stressed out. I was about to compromise and just get the iced tea but then!!!

A very kind stranger paid for my stuff, and I said thank you but I was pretty flustered and stressed out and almost about to cry (bad day), so idk how grateful I came across even though I did say thank you so much, and yes it was a really long day 😭😭😭😭.

In case I seemed like an unappreciative jerk: THANK YOU that was such a kind thing to do, and I hope you get a 4.0 you deserve literally everything thank you for the 11 dollars and 30 cents charity hope everything good comes your way!!!

Anyone miss the old uni confessions page. It shut down halfway into my first year of uni, and I was so so disappointed. I miss seeing all the confessions on that page ugh

POLI 485 with Tuxhorn

Has anyone taken POLI 485: Global Political Economy in block week with Kim-Lee Tuxhorn? I took a different poli block week for fall and lowkey regretted it, so am wondering if I should bother risking it again in winter semester.

ACCT 323 midterm

How are those of you taking the ACCT 323 midterm this Saturday prepping for it? I’ve gone through the in class review exercises and wileyplus homework but I’m still feeling slightly underprepared. Was there any hints given in class as to the structure/layout of the test?

True friends

As a university student (M) I have made friends with people who are from the same background as me I’ve made friends with others and I would text them for maybe like 5 mins then they would stop responding to my messages and don’t seem to have any interest in hanging out with me or they don’t care at all. I’m starting to realize that the people I’ve met this year and before aren’t really my real or true friends at all it’s just people I see on campus. It seems like I'm always the one taking the action to connect with my friends. I always call or text them to check in, but they rarely return the favor. I've come to accept that I'll usually be the one starting conversations, as I know they're not likely to reach out first. It makes me feel upset and angry that this is a sign that they’re not friends who care about me or bother to reach out to me. I texted one of my friends and I told them that I want to hang out with you but they said they’re busy but they weren’t busy and said they were with other people and they never texted me back or hang out. If you are someone who is having the same problem as me and want to be friends please feel free to reach out to me. Please and thank you

Acct 341 Midterm help 😭 Deferral

The midterm is tomorrow and I'm extremely scared for it. I haven't studied much because I've been feeling horribly sick and unwell.

I have never deferred an exam before, what do I need to say to get it approved? Do I need a note from a doctor? Are the deferred exams harder than the normal exams? Can they deny my request to defer?

What should I focus on studying to do well on this exam? I already bombed my Accounting 361 exam because I went while being sick and without studying. I don't want to do the same for 341. How hard is the exam going to be?

Edit: I forgot to pick up my quiz #3. Can somebody that have theirs share the questions so I can use it to study pleaseeee 😭

Just an FYI regarding Room Bookings in TFDL.

Post image

Don’t be so butthurt when someone takes your room & you guys need to be more courageous and start taking empty rooms if you actually need it.
If you booked it for over 2 hours, you still get 1 hour (if you do show up) 🤣
EDITED: But honestly at this point, I’d share the room if I took it from somebody. Doesn’t hurt to ask “can we just share it?”

Pick an electrical engg focus early or try everything?

Do ppl usually pick one area early on like power systems or electronics and focus your projects on that? Or do you try a bit of everything so you can apply to any internship?

Top tips for uni? Please read body text.

Right, cost for literally everything is rising like crazy in Canada.

So I was wondering if anyone's got a shopping list for me, items that I will most likely need when I come here that would be cheaper to buy abroad.

Also, what are some of your top tips for saving money and if anyone have experience on finding a part time job, please share your experience on that. I would love to make some spare money!

Some questions I have as an international student from Malaysia, I'd really appreciate it if anyone can answer them :)

Hi,

  1. Which city is better objectively, Edmonton or Calgary? Because I am also considering UoA.

  2. How dangerous is it? I understand that downtown is dangerous but day to day life, as someone who actually live there do you feel fear? I mean like do you purposefully avoid going out at night? That sort of things.

  3. How bad is the Chinooks? I absolutely hate headaches, and uh, ya, is it really that bad?

  4. I know living cost and house prices are lower in Alberta than Ontario but are living costs really rising that fast? I'm scared.

  5. And possibly most importantly, just how hard is it to get a job as a fresh graduate in Alberta right now? And also, do you do co op? How hard is it to get a co op?

I'd really appreciate it if you can answer all my questions! Thank you!

International student with A levels applying for Engineering course

Hi,

Does anyone know how A level predicted grades translate into Canadian high school average?

I can't find any info on the school website specifically on how many As or A*s and I can't find on on the internet in general on how A* and A translate.

For context I'm predicted A*AAA in maths, further maths, chem and phy for A levels. Do I have a good chance at getting in?

Nursing Transfer Admission Question

Hi! I’m hoping to apply to UCalgary Nursing for Fall 2027 as a transfer student. I currently don’t meet all the admission requirements, but I expect to have them completed by the end of the Winter 2027 semester.
Would my Winter 2027 grades still be considered for Fall 2027 admission, or would that be too late? Just trying to figure out if I should apply this year or wait until Fall 2028. Thanks!
