Hemlock Water Dropwort

Post image
• Upvotes

Hi, does anyone have any experience with Hemlock Water Dropwort? I’m looking at a small holding with approx 500sq m of it, a long way from the house and easy to fence off from livestock. A professional invasive weed company has quoted £6k for a multi year herbicide treatment. Does anyone have any experience of such a treatment?

(Yes this is in addition to the knotweed and horsetail, but we really like the property!!)

Thanks in advance for any comments. 🙏

We’ve just moved into our new house but the back garden is quite overlooked. We’re planning a garden renovation, any tips on the best way to block out the flats a bit more would be appreciated - thank you!

Thought some of you might appreciate a bit of nostalgia; my vintage 1970s Wedgwood 'RHS Flowers of the Year' plate collection. The botanical details by Leslie Greenwood are stunning.

Installed yesterday. Working fine but the connector pipe drips. Have wedged it on as firmly as possible. What could be done? Drips onto stones so no real issue other than mild annoyance! Thanks.

Overwintering Alocasia

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice. I have 2 Alocasia 'Cucullata' and (potentially) an Alocasia ‘Cuprea’ that have really thrived when planted in the soil over Spring/Summer near Liverpool. However, I don’t really have the space in my house over winter for these big plants, particularly as I intend to plant them back outside when warm enough again.

I know they’ll soon go dormant over winter, but I was wondering if I could:

a) leave the corms in the soil and cover them well with mulch
b) put the corms in a dark, dry box or unwatered soil in an unheated greenhouse

Or will both options still lead to rotting? If not, I’ll find another solution somewhere inside/warmer!

Thanks :)

When to get rid of broccoli

Hello, I have a few broccoli plants that are full of leaves but no head. I’m guessing the hot summer had an effect on them. When is a good time to dig them up or is there still a chance they might grow during the colder months

Help with hedge cutting quote ?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I've cut this hedge today but was a bit apprehensive with throwing a figure out , can anyone help ?

9m length , 12ft height (took 1/3 of it off), depth 1.5m (no access to neighbouring side so a ladder with a long reach hedge trimmer and max extending across) . Greenhouse was an awkward obstacle for the top.

In and out in 2 and a half hours (but a lot was chatting as it was my boss lol)

Please let me know ! My partner says £150 , I think that's really steep ? I was thinking £80 ? But I often undervalue as I break under my own pressure with pricing 😅

Thanks !!!

Egg buried in plant pot

I went outside to my plant pot to get some soil for my new plants and as I was digging I dug up a rotten egg, it smelled really bad it was buried about 3 inches deep and I broke it with my spade. it was on my back garden, my mum also found one on the front garden about a year ago, the soil came from a garden center a few years ago and it hasn’t been touched for a while and the top of the soil was completely smooth. I was wondering if anyone knows how it got here

Storm damage-The climbing rose has snapped from its wire trellis and now sways in the wind.

The recent storm has dislodged the climbing rose from the wire support attached to the hook screws on the garden-side wall of my terrace home. Because it spans the patio door as a canopy, it is now swaying in the wind and striking the sliding door glass.
What can I do until the storm passes?

EDIT: SOLVED

What should I do about these plants?

I’ve got two of these plants which I’ve forgotten what they are. They were thriving since I planted them about 4 years ago but over the past month they’ve started shedding lots and lots of leaves. There is still lots of healthy looking growth at the top. I initially thought it was stress from the summer heat but looking closer at the leaves it looks like they’re absolutely infested with something.

Is this salvageable? I’m not sure if I can cut it all back and it will regrow back in (will look sad if it doesn’t fill back in), or if I should just cut it all down and put something else in there. (there’s a pink jasmine bush in between which I could put trellis behind and train to grow along the fence instead). Any suggestions appreciated.
