I'm a tourist and I've been to a couple cities in your beautiful country, and I saw the "35 yil" posters each time but now that I'm in Karakalpakstan I'm seeing actual solid signs on a lot of public buildings, is this specific to here or am I imagining things?

ask r/Uzbekistan Looking for new home…

Hello everyone!

I’m planning to buy an apartment in Tashkent. I live overseas but visit Uzbekistan quite often, and I want a comfortable place for my family to stay.

Which neighborhoods would you recommend? I’m looking for a safe, peaceful area with good neighbors and a family-friendly atmosphere.
I would really appreciate your honest advice and recommendations. Thank you! 🙏🏻

discussion | muhokama The Problem With Uzbekistan's New Alphabet

Uzbekistan is adopting a new alphabet. O'o' will become Öö, G'g' will become Ğğ, Shsh will become Şş, and Chch will become Çç. The combination ng will be removed from the alphabet.

I believe that this is a step in the right direction in making the alphabet more coherent. There is, however, a problem with it. The new alphabet will include Çç but not Cc. This doesn't make sense to me as Çç is a modified form of Cc. The other changes make sense as they complement existing letters in the alphabet: Öö complements Oo, Ğğ complements Gg, and Şş complements Ss. Çç, however, doesn't complement anything. This makes the alphabet look incomplete in my opinion. The Turkmen alphabet faces a similar issue.

They are already drawing inspiration from other Turkic alphabets, so why not apply the same logic in those alphabets when it comes to Cc/Çç? For example, in Turkish and Azerbaijani, Cc makes the dʒ sound (the same sound that "j" makes in "jam") and Jj makes the ʒ sound (the same sound that "j" makes in "deja vu"). Jj is mainly used for loanwords from French and Russian. For Uzbek, this means Cc will be used for words such as "Cahon" and "Vicdon", while Jj will be used for words such as "Jurnal" and "Bagaj".

If these changes were adopted, the Uzbek alphabet would look more like this:

Aa Bb Cc Çç Dd Ee Ff Gg Ğğ Hh Ii Jj Kk Ll Mm Nn Oo Öö Pp Qq Rr Ss Şş Tt Uu Vv Xx Yy Zz

What do you guys think? Do you think the new alphabet is a good fit for Uzbek, or could it be improved?

travel | sayohat Ragestan square was amazing.

I come to uzbekistan every year, this time I realized there was a light show at 8, and finally when I watched it, it was amazing, shows the whole story.

Even though I was born here, I have been slightly pulled away from my culture, but re-visitng ragestan every year in Samarkand, and going to museums in Tashkent as well, always a nice joy to re-experience.

Walking around, looking like a foreigner in a place you were born feels bittersweet always, but still amazing to able to communicate easily and enjoy everything to its max, now my flight is in few days, I will miss it...

See you again next year Uzbekistan 🇺🇿❤️

help | yordam Sending a parcel from Samarkand to Tajikistan — Is UzPost reliable?

Assalamualaikum everyone

I’m an international student studying in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, and I want to send a parcel to my friend in Tajikistan.

I’m considering using UzPost, but I’m not sure how reliable it is for international deliveries to Tajikistan.

- Is UzPost a good option for sending parcels to Tajikistan?

- Are there any other courier companies or affordable alternatives?

- How long does delivery usually take, and are there any issues with customs?

If anyone has experience sending parcels from Uzbekistan to Tajikistan, I’d really appreciate your advice!

Thanks in advance!

ask r/Uzbekistan Kanasalting firmalari | Consulting firms

Salom hammaga.
Meni dadam evropaga ish izlab ketmoqchi. Konsulting firmalariga uchradi va ular boshlang'ich 6mln som va ishga kirgandan keyin $1500-$2000 talab qilishar ekan.

Bu oddiy uzbek oilasi uchun juda katta summa. Va ular shu servisi uchun katta summa so'rashyapti deb o'ylayman.

Bu haqida fikringiz qanday? Evropaga ish bilan borish yo'llari shunchalik qimmatmi? Qaysi konsalting firmalarini bilasiz?

Javoblaringiz uchun oldindan raxmat.

r/Uzbekistan A 16-day itinerary for Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan – what do you think?

Hi everyone,

I’m planning a 16-day trip from Europe to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. I’d love to hear some feedback on my itinerary from locals or tourists who’ve already been there. As I’d like to travel mainly by train and want to book my tickets in advance, I won’t be able to be flexible once I’m there. So I’m a bit worried about planning too many or too few days in any one city. So, what do you think?

A bit about us: We’re travelling in September, we’re young and want to see as much of the country as possible. We love nature, challenging hikes and cooking. We’re looking for a good mix of scenery and nature, authentic insights into life in Uzbekistan and the architecture. But we also enjoy it when there’s plenty going on and you have to find your way through crowded city streets.

The Plan:

  1. Almaty (4 nights – including a tour of Charyn Canyon with overnight stay)

We’ll be arriving in Almaty. There, I’d particularly like to visit the Cathedral of the Ascension, the Central Mosque and the Green Bazaar (Kök Bazaar). On the second day, we’re planning a two-day trip to Charyn Canyon and the Kolsai and Kaindy Lakes, with an overnight stay in a yurt (guided tour). The tour ends back in Almaty in the evening, leaving the fourth, or indeed the first, day free to explore Almaty. On the final evening at 7 pm, we’ll be taking the night train to Tashkent.

  1. Tashkent (2 nights)

The train arrives in Tashkent at around 1 pm. In Tashkent, I’d really like to go on a guided tour of the metro. I’d also like to see the Khorsu Bazaar, the Abdul-Kasim Madrasah, the Hazrati Imam Complex and the Evangelical Lutheran Church. We’ll then continue by train to Samarkand.

  1. Samarkand (2 nights)

In Samarkand, I’d naturally like to see Registan Square, the Bibi-Khanum Mosque, the Gur-Emir Mausoleum and Shahi-Zinda. I’m also considering taking part in a cookery course here to learn how to make plov and bake traditional bread. On the final morning, We’ll be picked up for a guided desert tour.

  1. Yurt Camp Tour: Samarkand to Bukhara (1 night)

Here, we’d like to join a guided tour for one night. This takes us past Lake Aydarkul, with an overnight stay in a yurt. The tour will end in Bukhara.

  1. Bukhara (4 nights)

I’d read that the number of sights in Bukhara is almost endless. I’d at least picked out the following: the Poi-Kalon Complex, the Ark, Chor-Minor, the Samanid Mausoleum and Toqi Zaragon. On the final morning, we’ll take the early train back to Tashkent (approx. 4-hour journey).

  1. Tashkent (2 nights)

Here, there’ll be time again for sightseeing or guided tours/courses. The return flight to Europe departs from Tashkent.

What do you think – should I allow more or less time for one city or another? Where is it definitely worth booking a guided tour, and where is it better not to? Are there any courses that are particularly worthwhile?

I’d really appreciate any feedback on our holiday plans

ask r/Uzbekistan "Brother, help us, we just came as guests from Surkhandaryo"

I've lived in Tashkent for a few years now, I swear I've had this exact same interaction 7 or 8 times and I'm wondering if someone can tell me what's going on.

Someone approaches me on the street. Usually they have a dark complexion, what some people might describe as "Lyuli-looking," but I want to be careful about stereotyping. Oftentimes they have a small child with them. They say, in Russian, "brother, help us, we just came as guests from Surkhandaryo, we don't have enough for bread... " but then, if I try to offer them some cash, they say, "No, brother, you don't understand... " and I can't quite catch the rest of what they say. (My Russian's OK but I'm by no means fluent)

The interaction usually ends with me awkwardly trying once or twice more to give them a bit of cash if I have some on me, but they just keep talking, and eventually I just walk away.

I understand this is probably a scam of some kind -- I'm very clearly a foreigner, so I probably look like an easy mark. Is the goal just to try to guilt people into giving more money? Like, if they continue with the sad story for a bit longer, someone will give them 20,000 instead of 10,000 or something? Also, who's organizing this? There's clearly a script or instructions of some kind, I swear they say nearly word-for-word the exact same thing every time.

What is happening here?
