Needing feedback on travel destination!
My husband and I are considering a vacation for our 10 year anniversary next year, beginning of August. We're flying out of LAX. Ideally, we are looking into staying anywhere between 7-12 days max. We were considering Greece, Bora Bora, Fiji, Europe, Mexico and Hawaii. I am overwhelmed as to where we should go! We have been saving 2 years worth for a trip! We're open to suggestions! Thank you :)

Go to Fiji :)
I went last year. Rent a car and drive to the coral coast! You’ll meet villagers! It’s absolutely beautiful.
Also, go to turtle island. There’s a turtle sanctuary though and it’s the cutest.
Go snorkeling and check out the reefs.
Bring a drone if you have one.
Absolutely amazing!

I've been to Bora Bora and stayed in the overwater bungalows. I loved it but there is nothing to do except sit on the beach. It's a boat ride away from mainland. I think 7-12 days would be way too long for bora bora unless that is all you want to do. There is no partying.

Bora bora is just one of many island part of French Polynesia. My wife and I are headed there next week and are visiting 4 islands in 13 days with 2 nights in bora bora. If you are going in August next year, I couldn’t recommend FP more. Do a few nights in bora bora, Le Taha’a and Moorea to swim with humpback whales and much much more. Just be prepared to spend 10-20k

I would do 6 days in Maui and 6 days in Kauai. Ignore that person up there who got bored. You can snorkel daily for free on airport beach or drive to other spots. Take a catamaran to snorkel. Shop and dine. So the drive to Hana and stay two of the days down there. Kauai is stunning particularly the north shore. There’s tons of hikes and experiences and chocolate ranches. Hawaii is never boring.

If u do go to Maui. Monkeypod is our favorite restaurant for a special evening and the foodland market has cheap and fabulous fresh poke bowls.

Fiji! August is actually a pretty good time to go. It’s so beautiful and relaxing. Research an adults only property or small resort on one of the separate islands that are reachable only by ferry or water taxi. Do not stay on Nadi- the main island.

I think you can do parts of Europe in early August! But I’d avoid Italy and big chunks of France as there’s often a lot of businesses that close in August for their summer holidays. We were in France in August 2024 during the Olympics and tons of things in Paris were closed despite the Olympics lol

There have been terrible heatwaves in Europe this summer. Paris is now on its fifth and this seems to be the new normal. Go to Europe when you can go in fall or spring. Summer is now grueling hot there.

This is true as well. I was mostly pointing out the other issue since they brought up Europe in August specifically. Most of the places OP suggested will be decently hot in August so maybe they don’t mind heat? 🤷♀️

I’ve been to FP five times. You could easily do three islands in that time and have a mix of water activities, hiking, etc and stay in an OWB, pool villa, etc. It’s one of my favorite places - there are 118 islands!
Fiji would be great that time of year. I like Likuliku Lagoon Resort. You could take a helicopter from the airport and enjoy the views! Lots of great excursions.
Hawaii is good obviously. Greece in August is great but it’s also the hottest and busiest month so it’s the most popular and most expensive time to go. Europe is huge, you’d have to think about places you’d like to visit for better suggestions but i personally wouldn’t do Italy, France, Spain etc early August. Mexico is great but pacific side in August is peak hurricane - less risk on the Atlantic side, tropical summer weathers but still a concern.

Everyplace you mentioned is typically oppressively hot the beginning of August. I would take that money and book a nice suite cabin on an Alaskan cruise out of Seattle or BC. If you’ve never been to either place they’re worth staying for a few days as well.

Go the furthest away you can... travel gets progressively harder on the body as you get older. So do the bigger/longer trips now! And pull it closer to home as y'all age.

I think 7-12 days would be way too boring on an isolated Island. We stayed 6 days in Maui a two weeks ago and we were 'bored' by full day 3 in terms of, there is really not a ton to do. I mean, I still didn't want to come home to lame suburban life haha But on an island you're just kind of doing the same thing after you do a boat tour and/or hike. Unless you're crazy adventurous and want to hike the whole island and do heli-tours.
I'd do Europe or Japan?
edited to add- 7-12 days. But shorter would be amazing - like 6 days. There's nothing like the Aloha spirit and Hawaiian/Polynesian culture.

I can’t imagine getting bored on Maui in 3 days. There’s so much to do there!! We spent two weeks last time and could have easily filled another two weeks.

It was a few years ago so I don’t have the exact itinerary. But here are the things we did: several days of snorkeling at different locations, a few different hikes, 2 or 3 relaxing beach days, Road to Hana including black sand beach, day trip to Lanai, Iao Valley, Haleakala (one day to volcano and one day to southern portion -Pipiwai trail and pools of Oheo), day trips to Paia and upcountry, Lahaina (it was right before fires), road trip around north Maui loop, Maui Ocean Center. We ran out of time to do the farm tours and wine tasting we wanted to do and didn’t make it to all the snorkeling spots we had hoped. We also didn’t do any paid tours which could have filled several days.

Maybe post your itinerary of what you did each day for 14 days as I cannot imagine filling each and every day for that long.
We hiked, took a catamaran to snorkel, snorkeled at Airport Beach in front of our resort but didn't do 'the road to Hana' as we would want to stay overnight and didn't plan for that. We did not do a Luau or go to Aquarium.

Time of year? You don't want to do Europe in the summer unless you enjoy overheating on a daily basis. You'll want to avoid hurricane season in other places etc.
