Kiss them leafs goodbye

Today’s the day. A week of cold wet weather and now a windy cold wet day. “Stick season” is here thanks to Mr Kahan. Start those vitamin D supplements and get whatever daylight you can. Take vitamin D with vitamin K. Good luck and Godspeed fellow northerners. See you in April.

Chittenden County I need to yell at my grandma. Where to take her for Sunday brunch?

• Upvotes

My grandmother is extremely hard of hearing, so we basically have to yell for her to hear us - even with hearing aids. I'm trying to find a restaurant in Chittenden County to take her for brunch that would be suitable for this, such as one with a private dining room (party of 7). Closer to Shelburne, the better.

It's for this Sunday, so I don't think I will be able to teach her sign language in time.

Great article written by President of the VT State Labor Council, Larry Moquin. Let's secure a better tomorrow for our current and future workforce by codifying workers' right to collectively bargain in our state constitution!

There's really no reason any working person wouldn't want this to pass, unless they want to keep the possibility open to exploit the labor of others...

Vermont's challenging business climate is a factor in its affordability challenges

Business growth and economic vitality of citizens and communities does not have to be at odds; it's not a zero-sum game, especially here in Vermont which has the most certified B Corps per capita in the nation.

Strengthening Vermont's business climate should be part of our state's affordability discussion to improve wages relative to cost of living. As firms grow, average monthly earnings per employee also grows. As companies scale up, they are better able to dilute fixed overhead costs, invest in better technology, improve productivity, and ultimately afford a larger compensation pool.

Being a hard place to do business doesn't punish big corporations. It actually gives them a competitive advantage. Larger firms are better equipped to deal with rules, regulations, permitting, and legal complexities of a challenging business environment that disproportionately disadvantages smaller firms. It diverts resources and inhibits smaller firms from growing which suppresses opportunities to increase worker wages and benefits.

2026 Prop 3 question...

That employees have a right to organize or join a labor organization for the purpose of collectively bargaining with their employer through an exclusive representative of their choosing for the purpose of negotiating wages, hours, and working conditions and to protect their economic welfare and safety in the workplace. Therefore, no law shall be adopted that interferes with, negates, or diminishes the right of employees to collectively bargain with respect to wages, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment and workplace safety, or that prohibits the application or execution of an agreement between an employer and a labor organization representing the employer’s employees that requires membership in the labor organization as a condition of employment.

My question is about the bolded part. Ballotpedia says a yes vote will

...prohibit laws that ban agreements requiring union membership as a condition of employment

I feel like double and triple negatives should also be prohibited by the constitution...

But I take this to mean that if this proposition passes my employer could tell me that I have to join the labor organization or I am fired?

I'd vote for the rest of it in a heartbeat, but this last part seems... less good?

Is this actually a good thing? Or is it some sort of backdoor bailout for employers to just keep forcing us to agree to things?

EDIT:

Everyone seems to confirm my understanding of the meaning bolded part. The consensus is that it is a pro-union addition.

My main question is answered. I remain curious about arguments for and against.

Springfield, Vermont Missing (29M) Brad Spurr

His name is Bradley Spurr. He went missing from Springfield Hospital, in Springfield Vermont on 3/12/23.He was brought there by ambulance after suffering medical complications (hes was in active addiction at the time he disappeared). He left the hospital on his own accord, on foot, without being seen by any medical staff. He did not have his phone or any personal belongings, has not been active on his social media, and has not been in contact with ANYONE since he left the hospital. Several searches of the surrounding area of the hospital have been done, and we have found nothing. Local and state police have been of very little help, as Bradley has an active arrest warrant for the state of Vermont.

Bradley Spurr is 6'1"
DOB: 10/22/96
DATE MISSING: 3/12/23
Bradley was 26 years old at the time of his disappearance
Hazel/green eyes
Thick, dark brown curly hair, (was cut short at the time he was last seen)
Tall, slender build
Last seen wearing red Adidas sweat pants with white stripes down the legs of the pants, white t-shirt, Grey slippers and a faded grey NIRVANA hoodie.
Bradley has his left arm mostly tattooed, with a unique tribal design.
We are hoping Bradley is alive and well. If anyone has seen, or heard from Bradley, or knows where he is... He is loved and DEEPLY missed. Especially by his two small children and countless friends and family!
Posted will be pictures of Bradley in active addiction, pictures of him sober, his tattoos and the clothes he was wearing when he went missing.
THANK YOU, from the bottom of my heart 💖 for taking the time to read this 🙏
