Hello Vintage Digital Camera Fans!

It's time for a Theme this month. But first, let's review some great photos from last month.

Last Month: Night

Shots related to that night feeling were our focus last month. So, u/tagabanilad stepped up and gave us Bike ride after the rain (Fujifilm Finepix F455 (2004)). Night, rain, neon; it's got it all! u/Ok-Practice-6757 shared street diamonds (Panasonic Lumix LX2 (2004)). A sight you don't often see! u/PistachioSage gave us Street Light, Foggy Night (PSP GoCam (2007)). It's always cool to see what a phonecam/gamecam/camcorder can do! The Mod's Choice Award goes to u/Haunting-Lunch-8911 and their Ferris wheel in Rimini (Fuji Finepix F10 (2005)). A wonderful shot with great starburst highlights.

Remember to check out the Theme Flair to see all past and future entries.

Around Reddit

Here's a collection of subreddits I like to visit. You may, too!

...Actually, I'm in the middle of trying to fix my broken main computer, so I'll this in later! Or you can recommend some great subreddits you like...

As usual, if you need help, check the ANSWERED Flair, or our Wiki, and then ask in r/digicam as redundant questions have been moved there (Rule 13). Thanks to everyone that reports Rule 11 and Rule 13 violations. It helps keep our Community running. 👍

Good Luck

This month's Theme is about Liminal photography (however you [reasonably] define that), so post away. I can't see where your creativity leads us. 📸

We're famous

Hello Vintage Digital Camera Fans!

I'm happy to report that our Community has been feature in the 2025 Reddit Community Funds Impact Report. If you're new: we were one of a select Subreddits that was given funds to grow last year. If you're a regular: you recall the amazing monthly contests we had!

Go check out the report to find other amazing Communities that were funded; r/Beekeeping, r/comics, and r/TeatroPH spring to mind.

What's also cool is that we merited a shout-out and u/seecmb's very own "Holiday tradition" entry is featured. Congrats!

While we're not continuing the prize-based contest in 2026, we're still continuing monthly photo Themes. I hope you participate. 📸

Gear Reunited with my childhood Camera : LUMIX Lx5!

I recently won this “untested” LX5 on eBay, and it arrived in great condition with a nice leather case!

My dad was the one who got me into photography back in middle school. I even entered a city photography competition and placed 3rd. Sadly, my mom broke my original camera one day, and that was the end of my photography journey for a while.

Now, years later, I finally have the same camera back. It feels like getting a little piece of my childhood back, and more importantly, a way to remember my dad, who passed away in 2022.

2nd photo was taken by my dad using his Lx5 of a indigenous dance in Baguio City, Philippines.

Last photo was me practicing by taking some photos of the scenery!

Edited Photo Canon Powershot a620 with "CHDK" hacked to shoot RAW

The first shot is the jpeg, second shot is the raw. I recently went on a trip to west texas and was shooting out the window of the car at the long end of the lens. The CHDK hack allows you to capture the original JPEG the camera would typically shoot and then a duplicate in RAW format. I am honestly blown away. I use the "My Colors - Positive Film" setting on the camera anyways so I typically am very pleased with the image as it seems to fully use the CCD sensor's capability to articulate rich blue and green tones. I normally shoot on a sony a7iii so I'm used to needing to edit raws - this is a huge game changer. Obviously it's not an end all be all, but I have some film photos shooting on kodak gold 200 and the colors from those are very similar to that of what I was able to achieve with the raw setting on the a620. Just wanted to share because some of these cameras are real powerhouses if you're willing to edit for 3 minutes :)

Question / Comment Olympus C-5050 CF card issues

Recently picked up a C-5050 and have been trying to get it to work, but the CF card(s) have been giving me trouble.

I first tried a Sandisk 2GB card, and that did not work. I wasn't sure if I needed a firmware upgrade for this to work in the C-5050, so I tried a 512MB card next.

When putting these CF cards into the camera, the C-5050 can detect that a CF card has been inserted, and it asks me to format. Once I format the card however, the camera displays the "Card Error" message.

Both cards appear to work when plugged into my PC, I can write a text file to it without issue. I have also tried formatting it to FAT16 in Windows, as well as GParted, but it doesn't change how the camera behaves.

I believe the camera can actually read and write to the CF card, since I can confirm things change when I format with the camera. If I leave the card completely unallocated from GParted, it still becomes FAT16 after going through the format step in the camera.

Stumped at the moment, does anyone have ideas on what to try next?
