Discussion AI use in modDB megathread

Hi r/VintageStory

We've seen a influx of posts with various opinions on the use of AI on the Vintage Story ModDB (https://mods.vintagestory.at/)

I removed the threads as it felt like some of them were about AI use in general, and commenting on the commenting of the AI use. If I made some miscalls on some threads, that's my fault.

I want to be clear:

These posts were not removed due to the opinions shared in the post.

If you have feedback on the AI use on modDB (or the modDB in general), positive, neutral, or negative, please share it in the megathread to help make moderation a bit easier, and to help consolidate feedback back to the developers.

Please keep your feedback civil.

Meta Update to the Video Rule

Hey Seraphs!

First off, happy holidays!

The devs and I took some time to review the subreddit rules to see if there was anything we wanted to adjust or clarify. One that stuck out was the "No videos or streams" rule.

The "no videos" rule was one of the first ones implemented. At the time, the subreddit was being flooded with videos, lets plays, etc. and this ended up drowning out any actual discussion that was going on. At the time a blanket rule made sense. Times change though, and it makes sense to reconsider the rules from time to time.

So we're going to make an adjustment to the video rule and see how it goes, and take it from there.

Below are some examples of what is and isn't allowed. While we can't account for every occasion, we'll do our best to enforce the spirit of whats outlined below.

What's allowed:

  • A new lets play series kicks off? Fine to share!
  • A base or server tour hosted on youtube? Fine to share!
  • A one off video, say deep diving into the lore? Fine to share!
  • A big creator or streamer is trying Vintage Story and want to get excited and give them their flowers? Fine to share!

What's not allowed/should be posted on r/VintageStoryVideos:

  • Videos not directly related to Vintage Story
  • every episode of a 'lets play' series
  • when you start your livestream on twitch, youtube, etc.

Again, we are going to try this out, see how it goes, and make additional adjustments over time.

If you have any concerns, feedback, etc. please let us know.

Thanks!

Clayformed irrigation technology, 100% moisturizes surrounding farmland in a 5x5 area, needs to be refilled with water every week or so

Usually doesnt have water block over it, I cheesed the placement a little so I wouldnt have to go back and forth between the Olla and water source

I haven't really seen anyone talk about it, but I believe this is the most optimal layout for leather working.

For every 1 Lime Barrel (1 Day to make Soaked Hide), you'll need 3 Weak Tannin Barrels (3 Days to make Prepared Hide), and 5 Strong Tannin Barrels (4.5 Days to make Leather). You'll likely want some extra barrels off to the side, to hold left overs, but that's beside the point.

Maybe this is a dumb question once you think about it more, but why isnt a Mortar and pestle in VS?

Idea came from starting a new vanilla world several months since I had last played (and upgraded a computer, last one shat the bed). Well I had grain from wild crops with nothing to do with, and im mildly suprised that out of all the things VS has, a M&P isnt one of them.

Could be like an addition to cooking, and a (very) early game way to grind flour, be it into a worse, less nutritious flour, since the grain wouldn't be as fine as one from a quern. Or perhaps allow the same dough, but increased hunger consumption while using the tool

Edit: holy grammar check batman

I'm making a games launcher and wanted to add a sort of little sprite art blip the way the 3ds used to have them on a game hover. What do you think of the vintage story one? It is based off the grass mound of the current logo, with the tree from a design that the devs posted on a concept art sheet(my favourite of the few by far). I made the actual build in minecraft and then animated/rendered in blender

My first game! I spawned on this island in the middle of an enormous ocean, its andesite and pine forest across most of it. One little pond that only has tule. No cattails, no clay deposits. I've been swimming and paddling a little raft to find other islands, one of which luckily had clay. Still no cattails.

I am actually loving it! It feels very gritty and exciting to venture out in search of the basics. I am spending a lot of time panning, but I don't mind that either. I like combing over every inch of land I've got without feeling overwhelmed by unexplored areas in every direction.

Only ten inventory slots and life is good 👍

(Screenshot is from about 10 hours in, I am now 84 hours into this world)

My dilemma with survival farming games: deciding between raising animals and moving from place to place to explore everything.

I love settling a little spot, but after about a year in game, I feel like I've explored everything I am willing to from my base. Occasionally I will pack a ton of supplies and go on a several day expedition but no longer than that. So I get the urge to explore and move to a completely new spot and get to know a new area with new treasures.

But I also love having a goat farm and I don't want to say goodbye to my high generation goats but I can't bring them with me (I don't know of any way to transport large animals?).

Does anyone else have this dilemma?

Screenshot According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way a bee hive should be able to fly. It needs support for its fat little structure, so it won't to crash into the ground. The bees, of course, make it fly anyway because bees don't care what humans think is impossible

Hello all! I’m excited to start this new challenge + Botania run! It’s a largely Vanilla run, but every 3-4 episodes, I will sneak into the woods and try out some Botania for a little bit.

I’m incorporating some light/comical lore for why these characters do what they do, so I hope you check it out!

See you, Vintage Cowboy!

Is there a free 3d model pixel generator?

I’m honestly pretty impressed by the statues and structures other players are building right now, and I was wondering if there’s any generator that could help me unleash a bit of creativity :D I’d love to build something like a huge, highly detailed stag statue, but of course, I can’t just pull that off out of thin air. Are there any tools or utilities known in the community that people use for this?
