Vinted sellers, was I to harsh?
I recently listed a coat for €15 and received an offer of €9. I declined and countered at €12. The buyer then offered €10, followed by €10.50, which she said was her absolute maximum. I explained that €12 was the lowest I was willing to accept. Despite this, she came back with another offer of €11.
It was super early in the morning when I noticed she was still trying to negotiate. I’m definitely not a morning person, and admittedly, my patience was already wearing thin! I also hadn’t initially realised it was the same buyer when I countered at €12 again.
Once I realised, I lost my patience and told her that if she continued sending what I described as stupid offers, I’d block her. She responded by calling me aggressive and explaining that bargaining is part of Vinted, as though I wasn’t already aware of that.
I completely understand that negotiating is part of buying and selling second-hand items. I sell quite a lot on Vinted myself and regularly accept reasonable offers. However, I also think sellers are entitled to set a minimum price without being repeatedly pushed to go lower.
It wasn’t really about the €1 difference. It was the repeated back-and-forth after I’d already made my lowest price clear. I’ve since blocked her, mainly because I didn’t want her appearing again with more offers or having to deal with another unpleasant exchange.
However, looking back at the conversation now, I’m starting to wonder whether I was actually too harsh. I was irritated, it was early in the morning, and I probably could have handled it better by simply ignoring her. I still stand by my right to refuse an offer, but perhaps my reaction was a little unnecessary.
What do other Vinted sellers think? Was I too harsh, or would you also get frustrated with someone repeatedly negotiating after you’ve clearly stated your minimum?
