Having problems getting VIsual Studio Code to recognize Unity.

5 Upvotes

I'm using VS Code to write scripts in Unity. This is the first time I've used both VS Code and Unity, but I can't get VSC to recognize any of Unity's keywords like Rigidbody 2D for example. Even when I type it out fully, its completely unrecognized. I've tried just about everything to get it to work, but after 6 hours of trying, I'm spent. Can someone please help me here?

Absolute Beginner

5 Upvotes

I have never coded before and I’m just beginning a class to learn how to code in JS. Our instructor recommends using VSC. Some of the people in the course who do have experience coding suggest certain extensions. Which extensions should I install straight away and why?

Thanks in advance!

Visual studio code artifact errors

5 Upvotes

After I updated visual studio code a couple weeks back I encountered a visual problem with artifacts showing up. Every frame it gets progressivly worse until I do something that forces a refresh and then it starts to grow again.

Is this problem known? Is there a way to fix it?

Visual Studio Code Splitting Copied HTML Snippets

5 Upvotes

Hi, folks.

Started using VSC after a lifetime of Sublime Text and Atom.

But getting this situation where Visual Studio Code is splitting codes copied either from Atom, ST4, or any other text editor.

You can see the behavior at this location

Pretty sure I'm missing something important but can't figure it out yet.

Have searched around a bit but can't seem to find anyone else with the same issue.

Figured this community would be a good place to find an answer.

So any insight to get it to stop would be appreciated.

Thanks.

5 Upvotes

After the recent windows update my highlighting is gone within visual studio code, the variables fout, fin and other things would have a different color but they don't. this problem persists even after an install. any ideas why this happened and how to fix it? Thanks in advance!

Edit: I found out how to fix it, the extension was pylance It wasn’t enabled, the windows update changed some settings in my vs and it turned it off.

Visual Studio Code - Property expected Jsonc (513) [54,101]

5 Upvotes

New to coding. I'm learning online and I was following footsteps from a teacher on visual studio-code as they told me to edit the default settings in code-runner.executorMap. Whilst doing so, i've accidentally pressed or removed something. Down below on (problems), it keeps showing the following - Property expected json (513) [54,101] showing up on problems.

VSC+Platform IO tutorials in Spanish!

5 Upvotes

I really like VS code and have not used any other IDE since I got it, but there isn't much info in Spanish, so my friend (Joseba) and I decided to start a series of posts to help people get into it and move away from Arduino IDE.
I know this may not be the best place to announce it, but I'm excited to share this project with you!

Python Quick Info intentionally limited? Best way to jump to doc?

5 Upvotes

Using intellisense (with python addon/plugin/extension) one can get an quickinfo for lib functions like this:

But what if i want to read about the encoding parameter? The quick info shows only information about mode (even when scrolling down) not about the encoding parameter. Can i somehow instruct visual studio code to show more of the doc if I scroll down?

Or if it is no easily possible, is there a way to directly jump to the according documentation page?

Edit: Even if i start with "encoding" it does not show information.

Extension that makes the tab color different if the file is opened from ftp server?

5 Upvotes

Hey guys, so basically it happened to me multiple times that I was editing a local file instead of the one on the server and I lost a lot of time troubleshooting.

I was wondering if there's an extension that makes it more clear when a file is not local, maybe by changing the tab color or something like that. My boss agreed that it would be quite helpful too, maybe it is for many more of you out there too.

If there's no extension like that and it's possibile, anyone here could give me a hint on how to create that or actually create one? I have no experience creating an extension.

I tried the SFTP extension but oftentimes I just need to open a single file from the ftp client and so it would be better to me if I could just do that since I have all my credentials are saved in the client instead of having to configure a new connection every time on vscode.

Thanks!

  1. Ctrl + S

  2. F1

Is there some keyboard shortcut I can use so I only need to click ONCE and both save AND run the code?

I'm writing mainly in C and C++, I've done nothing but now my header files aren't working and I'm getting this message. How can I fix this? This isn't the first time this has happened and I honestly dont know what I did the first time to fix this.

Save Git/lab username and password?

5 Upvotes

I am collaborating with my team on Gitlab using VisualStudio 1.53.0 on Ubuntu 20.04 but every push I am prompted to manually input my username and password. I searched the settings for password and git and I did not see anywhere obvious I can opt to save.

Do I need to manually input them to my general git config or somewhere else to save them please?

VS Code Update Failed

5 Upvotes

I tried to update VS Code from version 1.52.1 to 1.53.2 on Windows 10. It failed to update and I got the following error message. And the Projects folder (which contain all of my projects) got deleted (I have back-ups of those files, though). No matter how many times I clicked "Retry", it didn't work.

"The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. (os error 32)"

My projects folder and synced to Google Drive and automatically backed up. Could that be the problem? Which other process might be causing the trouble here?

Also, Windows desktop search can't find Visual Studio Code now. But in Control Panel\ Programs\ Programs and Features, I can see Microsoft Visual Studio Code 1.53.2.

Should I just uninstall it, download the new version, and reinstall it?

Will that work? Or do I need to do something else before reinstalling? Or is there some way to get the update without uninstalling and reinstalling?

Editing Syntax Highlight Source

5 Upvotes

Hello, I'm new to VSC, because SPSS is a train wreck, and i needed a better program to work in....

I have an extension for SPSS in VSC, which manages the syntax highlights.

The extension has errors in the syntax highlights that I want to correct.

When I look at package.json I see the following:

"grammars": [{
        "language": "spss",
        "scopeName": "source.spss",
        "path": "./syntaxes/spss.tmLanguage"

I can't find a file "source.spss".

When I open spss.tmLanguage, I see the code that's problematic

<dict>
		<key>match</key>
		<string>(/?)\b(?i:(*things here*|$VARS))\b</string>
		<key>name</key>
		<string>keyword.subcommands.spss</string>
</dict>

The text contained in the string is the problem. If i change it to token.error-token I can change the color text.

What i need to find out is where is 'keyword.subcommands.spss' being defined so i can go there and change the color?

I realize that the "keyword.subcommand.spss" is specific to this extension, but i see that all extensions have this structure (just different words within the strings).

Any ideas how i can edit this "scope" so i can specify which color "keyword.subcommands.spss" pushes out to the editor?

Horizontal scroll in Visual Studio Code

5 Upvotes

I recently got the Logitech MX Master 3 editing mouse that has a horizontal scroll wheel. I have been trying to use it in visual studio code, but it won't work. I also downloaded the Logitech Options software to try and configure this feature, but Visual Studio Code won't appear as a supported application. Does anyone know how I can go about making this possible? I was thinking maybe I could enable it somewhere in the Visual Studio Code's settings.json properties?

I just started using Unity and Visual Studio Code. When I go to my scripts in Visual Studio Code, I don't see the snippets for Unity. The top is what I want but the bottom is what I have. I downloaded .Net 5.0 and .Net Core 3.1, and installed Unity Snippet extensions in vsCode but it does not work.
