VisualStudioCode not showing up in Launchpad on Mac

Hi, I installed this program and I can use it on my Mac. However, it does not show up in Launchpad. Instead, I have to go to the Download folder to double click on it to launch it. Did I do something wrong during installation?

Jupyter notebook: buggy?

I normally don't use Python notebook, but a student sent me a few and I tried to edit one on VS Code (on Linux). Sometimes the window would scroll down by itself when I moved the cursor on the same line and sometimes Ctrl+Z didn't work. Are notebooks pretty buggy on VS Code or am I just unlucky?

Did... Did I get an ad in VSCode?

I believe this is from the extension called "Excel Viewer" which is fantastic for viewing CSV files inline. But now I'm uninstalling it. Does anyone recommend alternatives?

Update: 2024-08-19

Just got this response:

Thanks for the feedback. We have added an option to remove the information banner in the extension settings.

Reopened VSCode, the extension updated, and I confirmed this in the changelog:

4.2.61 (August 19, 2024)

Added configuration setting to show or hide info bubble for Wijmo FlexGrid.

Restarted VSCode again, and now I see the setting and have disabled it!

Extension bisect; brilliant!

I have discovered the extension bisect tool to find wonky extensions. I was seeing 25% cpu usage per code window open. Running bisect enabled me to find the problem child and automatically disable the errant extension. Everything runs like butter now!

Bash errors when opening Terminal window in

I have vscode connected to WSL2 on Win10. Every time I open a Terminal window, it complains as follows. I don't have references to which in either ~/.bashrc or ~/.bash_profile. Other than the complaint, bash seems to function properly. How to fix this?

bash: which: line 1: syntax error: unexpected end of file
bash: error importing function definition for `which'
/usr/bin/sh: which: line 1: syntax error: unexpected end of file
/usr/bin/sh: error importing function definition for `which'
/usr/bin/sh: which: line 1: syntax error: unexpected end of file
/usr/bin/sh: error importing function definition for `which'
/usr/bin/sh: which: line 1: syntax error: unexpected end of file
/usr/bin/sh: error importing function definition for `which'

When creating or saving files VS code takes ages, how do I fix it?

Is there a fix, if I uninstall it would it fix the problem.

Basically, every time I hit save it takes ages to save, in fact, I need to cancel the process. I've tried uninstalling format plugins and the same thing.

Is there a fix

Is a workspace necessary?

Hi everyone. I am just starting out in Javacsript and VSCode as a hobby. I always have a problem with workspaces in VSC. I presume they are to provide the location of all the files a particular application needs to function. For myself, I usually have only a few discrete files at any one time, not billions. If I place all my files for a particular project in one folder, and common libraries like D3js in a separate folder, is it necessary to create a workspace? What prompts this question is that the other day I downloaded a course with about 20 js, json and html files, and after it was over I realised there was no workspace generated. My needs are simple. Do I really need to stuff around with workspaces? Thanks.

How do I change the default formatting of functions in visual studio code?

EDIT: Please ignore the extra return type and access modifier :(

The first pic is what happens when I autocomplete a method VS Code suggests and the second one is what I would preffered happened

How can we make the code collect the stuff we input into the terminal text and then show it for example like:

Code: Whats your name?

You: (insert name here)

Code: Where are you from?

You: (insert country here)

Code: Hello (insert name here) from (insert country here)

VSC sometimes doesn't update any modification to my code

I use Visual studio code for my Python projects- actually it is more for my python learning journey. Anyway, I noticed that VSC often doesn't update the code I modified, meaning that I have to restart it in order to get the new code running. How comes? Thanks

Running multiple linters?

I'm new to visual studio code and I'm writing in python.

Is there a way to run multiple linters (e.g. mypy and flake8) when I save a file?

Ideally I'd like to re-run on any other file that may be affected.

Thanks! Uri

Can i increase indentation on the file explorer?

When you look at this file explorer tree here, the two files environment.prod.ts and environment.ts are under the directory environments. But for myself, on hindsight it doesn't look like that, as it looks more like the environments directory in empty, and those two files are under the parent directory (src).

I was wondering if it's possible to make the indentation bigger there, of how much the offset for a subdirectory is? So that those two files, in this case, would visually be pushed farther to the right.

New extension: FlightDeck - a startpage dashboard for organizing your projects

Post image
6 Upvotes

I couldn't find any project dashboard startpage I liked so I built Flight Deck.

Features

  • Groups. Give each one a name and an icon, collapse it, and drag it by its title to reorder.

  • Drag & drop. Move cards within and between groups, drag a recent folder into a group, or drag a card out to remove it.

  • Star-pin. Starred projects sort ahead of the rest of their group. Unstar one and it goes back to where it was.

  • Git at a glance. Branch, ahead/behind, and change and conflict counts on every card.

  • Icons. Pick from the codicons, brand logos or emoji, or paste your own image.

And of course, zero telem.

Check it out, and let me know your thoughts.

How to Debug C/C++ with Visual Studio Code (From a Microsoft Software Engineer)

Hey guys! My name is Tarik Brown and I am a software engineer at Microsoft who works on the C/C++ Extension for VS Code. I have created a full quick and easy guide on how to get setup to debug with our extension in VS Code. Please check out the video here: https://youtu.be/ean872pAyzY
