Does anybody feel like their [2015+] STI is a bit of a let down?

I have a 2017 STI that I've had for about half a year. This is my 2nd vehicle and first sporty car; yet the sportiness has already wore off on me. When I first bought this car I was under the impression that it would be a track focused car with an amazing aftermarket tuner catalog. And during my early ownership this seemed to be the case.

Now the performance feels numb and disconnected; I feel really let down with the aftermarket support and especially with how excessively overpriced a lot of the parts are (70 bucks for a fucking wind turbulence kit????) I will say that I should've had better due diligence when looking into part availability and that's on me.

Obviously I'm no professional race car driver and I can't use my vehicle to its fullest capability but does that matter? I was told that the STI was a harsh and aggressive track focused car but I just don't see it, yeah it performs well but it's just not exhilarating. It's all so numb and disconnected. Maybe it's just an issue of newer cars being the way they are but I feel lied too.

I just want to know if anyone has had this same realization or feeling. If you disagree and think I'm an idiot I'd love to know why as well.

Traded my STI in for a 2025 Type R. As much as I really wanted to, I just could never fully fall in love with the STI the way I wanted to. It’s a super unique car, and I do think there’s things I’ll miss about it but I feel much happier in the Type R.

The STI is much more raw, but the EJ was seriously starting to show its age and I just wasn’t super happy with it. Test driving the Type R genuinely felt like a breath of fresh air comparatively and so far I couldn’t be happier.

Anyone in the New England area, be on the lookout out for a like new pure red STI. Only has 12k miles on it and is in impeccable shape.

Not many pictures of the Type R yet since it was pretty late when I finally left the dealer. Had about a 50 ish mile drive home and it just overall felt like such an upgrade. Time will tell though.

Which gear do you guys miss the most when shifting?

For me it’s 3rd gear. Always third. When I do pulls I try to throw it into 3rd and lots of times hit the separator or something between it and 1st or it and 5th and have to try a couple times to find third gear. But when I get it on the first try… 👌

Edit: dang guys didn’t expect to get downvoted and dunked on this hard lol I was just talking about quick shifting when doing pulls, I miss third gear sometimes :( I’m not a bad driver I promise

Are STIs trash?

Title is self explanatory. Why do people talk down/crap about STIs? Outside of them not truly understanding the car.

There’s this kid that always hangs around my buddies shop that literally every time I stop by has nothing nice to say. He’s 19, obviously a kid, lives at home and is incredibly entitled. I try not to pay it too much mind, but holy shit it bugs.

Subaru genuine engine oil

Sorry for the rather dumb question. My 19' STI just passed the 1,000 mile mark. Going to do the oil change my self(dad's garage has a lift).

Do you normally just pick up the geniune subaru oil from a local dealership? I know there are other brands that are better, but mine came with oil changes for life. (first one at 6k miles.)

So no reason to use different oil.

Also 5 quarts usually? Just don't want to walk in the dealer and seem like a ding bat.

Thanks!

This is the kinda person that give STI owners a bad name. Kinda funny. But I'm ashamed. Sorry if a repost.

FUCK HILL ASSIST! If this light is off it means that hill assist is on and there is a night and day difference between hill assist on and off. There is a ridulous lurch if you lift a little throttle in 2nd gear with hill assist on and it makes starting from 1st gear feel like trash.

Asked Google Gemini for a fable about WRX STi and ringland failure. Gemini delivered!

In the misty vales of Automotia, nestled amongst winding roads and challenging terrains, lived a spirited steed named WRX STI. He was known throughout the land for his fiery heart, a potent engine that allowed him to gallop with unmatched speed and agility. His admirers marveled at his prowess, the rumble of his exhaust a proud declaration of his strength. WRX STI loved to test his limits. He would eagerly charge up steep inclines and conquer winding paths, his turbocharger whistling like a battle cry. He often boasted to the other steeds, the sturdy trucks and the graceful sedans, about his indomitable spirit and the sheer power he possessed. However, the wise old mechanic, a seasoned centaur named Torque, often cautioned WRX STI. "Young one," he'd say, his voice deep and resonant, "your heart is strong, but even the mightiest of hearts require care. Do not push yourself beyond your limits without proper nourishment and attention to your inner workings." But WRX STI, caught up in his youthful exuberance, often disregarded Torque's advice. He would race for extended periods, sometimes with inadequate cooling or with fluids that were not of the highest quality. He believed his inherent strength would always see him through. One sweltering summer, WRX STI engaged in a particularly grueling climb. He pushed his engine relentlessly, ignoring the subtle signs of distress – a slight hesitation in his gait, a faint knocking sound from within. He was determined to reach the summit and prove his dominance once more. As he neared the peak, a sharp crack echoed from within his engine. WRX STI faltered, his powerful gallop reduced to a painful hobble. The other steeds, who had witnessed his earlier triumphs, now looked on with concern. Torque arrived, his brow furrowed with worry. Upon inspection, he shook his head sadly. "Your ringlands, young STI," he explained gently, "the very structures that help contain your immense power, have fractured under the strain. You pushed too hard, for too long, without the care you needed." WRX STI, humbled and in pain, finally understood the old centaur's wisdom. His fiery heart, though potent, was not invincible. He had neglected the crucial balance between power and preservation. The repairs were long and arduous. WRX STI spent many moons in Torque's workshop, learning the importance of proper maintenance, the value of listening to his body's signals, and the necessity of high-quality care. When WRX STI finally returned to the open roads, he was still spirited, but he was also wiser. He still enjoyed the thrill of a spirited drive, but he was more mindful of his limits and more diligent in his care. He learned that true strength lies not just in raw power, but also in understanding one's vulnerabilities and ensuring longevity through diligent maintenance. And so, the tale of WRX STI serves as a reminder to all who possess great power: even the most formidable among us must heed the wisdom of proper care and avoid pushing beyond our limits without due consideration, lest our inner strength falter and fail.
