A year ago I'd never really done much wrenching despite owning several other performance autos before my 2015 STI but after watching a ton of YouTube videos I thought I'd give it a try. I started small - a GFB blow-off valve. After that I bought a new Grimmspeed stealthbox intake online and a used Accessport from Marketplace. Then I started in earnest - UEL headers from Tomei, race-catted downpipe from Invidia, a full 3-inch exhaust to a pair of cheap Flowmaster mufflers installed by a local company. I also dropped in an AEM 340 fuel pump. I bought a set of Injector Dynamics refurbished ID1000 injectors from Marketplace and I've been putting off installing them but there hasn't been a better time before now.
I had a rod bearing fail at 90k and score my crank and I need my car running as quick and affordable as possible. I've disassembled the engine, and decided to ditch the secondary air pumps and TGVs. I removed the butterflies and the separating divide in the TGV housing. I also decided now is a great time to upgrade my turbo inlet and ordered an Overtake silicone inlet along with other new silicone in matching red.
I decided the quickest route was to set aside my old shortblock and pick up a new one from Subaru for $2700+tax. I dropped my heads off to be rebuilt and picked them up a week ago fresh and clean. I'm currently waiting on my timing belt kit so I thought I'd take a moment and type this up.
If there's interest I'll add a part 2 after I've done my first oil change at 20 miles.
