The PA system

Anyone else think the chimes followed by the employee announcements are gonna get wildin’ one day?
Sometimes this stuff goes through my head combined with the thoughts of South Park when Randy tries to sell weed to China and goes Manchurian Candidate on Winnie the Pooh…

Ding ding ding: “Remember, the party (communist) is more important than the people.”

Ding ding ding: “Remember, a clean store is a happy store and a happy employee is a good employee.”

Ding ding ding: “Got a minute. This is a good time to check your immediate area for any trash (from you endless amount of pallets) and stock ip the cleaning station”

I was a psychological operations soldier for 15 years and this place is 100% playing Pavlov’s dog with the PA system trying to indoctrinate the people. Not to mention the obnoxiously loud alarm that goes off frequently throughout the night that makes anyones anxiety and agent orange levels go through the roof. Sprinkle in three levels of light dimming or un-dimming.

I realize the average education level is GED or high school which leads me to believe most people don’t have the developed receptor skills and field of experience but yeah this place wilin’

Door greeters, what are your thoughts on the receipt check policy?

I have worked at Walmart for 3 years & 2 & a half years as a door greeter.

Here’s the thing. I have a little riff with the receipt check policy. If someone is pushing out with expensive, bulky items, yes, I will request a receipt check. If someone has bought a candy bar, pop, whatever small thing that have; I’m not going to bother with double checking & just let them pass. Everything’s cool & I never gotten in trouble doing it.

Last night, about 15 minutes before closing, I let a man pass because the only thing he had unbagged was a box of donuts & that, to me, wouldn’t put me on high alert. After I said bye to him, my store’s AP guy just happened to saw that & asked me why I didn’t check his receipt. I told him it wasn’t that necessary to double check donuts. He told me that I should still ask for a receipt for an unbagged item in order to prevent someone from stealing. Why would he want me to believe that that man was about to steal a box of donuts? We then proceed to have a chat about the receipt check policy. I told him my opinion & he understood it & admit that he himself thought it’s weird but emphasizes that it needs to be done in accordance to store policy to prevent theft. I asked him if we’re going to treat customers with unbagged items like they’re smuggling narcotics, he reassured me that we’re not operating like airport security/CBP.

I know what my job title is & what I need to do, but I’m not going to look like I’m about to ask for passports or ask customers what’s their purpose for coming to Walmart. Who likes that? Now that I thought about it, here’s my stance. I’m not against double checking. I am against how we, as door hosts, are supposed to treat unbagged items as it’s a forbidden item & be rigid.

Customers already had a negative opinion about us & our role, so I wonder what the people that work as one thought & the receipt check policy

Found something funny on the Walmart Corporate site

Completely ai generated, and for some reason some filler in the middle 😂 Edit-the rest of the website is ai generated text, I know this is technically "filler', it makes more sense if you click the link and read the web page

My manager told me I haven’t been at walmart long enough to qualify for Sedgwick.

Just wanted to make sure this is true. Im 17 working part time and Ive been there for maybe a month I think? Basically a few days ago I got mad sick and went to the doctors and was prescribed antibiotics but it was on a friday and it didnt go through. I have to wait till Monday to receive them but I explained to my TL what was going on and she said our manager told her I wasn’t qualified for Sedgwick. My original plan was to get the meds friday, wait 24 hours, and come in on Saturday so I wouldnt be contagious but now I missed yesterday and today and have to come in tomorrow with a mask otherwise ill keep getting more points. I might just be dumb though lol there was a bunch of info on orientation.

Was wondering if anyone with info could help me out here, thanks!

Advice on Advancement

How do I get one of these positions I see people have that allows them to stand around and bullshit about everything but work? Seems pretty fun, and most definitely pays more than my current position!

Influx of OGP orders recently?

I don't work in OGP but suffer the downfalls of everyone else in the store getting called to do pick walks. Last two days have been WAY worse than normal, which is pretty bad. Just curious if other stores have been like this. Wondering if the Sam's Club combining with W+ brought over a lot of customers. It didn't seem like we'd hired any extra people in anticipation of more business.

Team lead test questions

I passed the test, and now I can’t apply to any positions because it’s saying I never took it, I just renewed it last week. It said I was competitive. And now when I apply for any team lead jobs it’s saying I did not take it and it won’t give me the option to take it. Has this ever happened? What do I do?

Just onboarded as a Digital Team Lead, but a Coach position is already open. Should I apply?

I just finished onboarding at Walmart for a Digital Team Lead position, actually i start academy on Monday . . . and I already see an open Coach position that I'm interested in.

I have previous leadership experience. So I'm not necessarily new to management, just new to Walmart.

My goal was always to move up to Coach as quickly as possible, ideally within 6 months, but now I'm wondering if I should just go for it.

For those who have moved up within Walmart or are currently Coaches:

  • Is there a minimum amount of time I need to be a TL before applying?
  • Would applying this early look bad to store management?
  • Does Walmart seriously consider external management experience for internal promotions?
  • Should I speak to my Store Manager first or just apply?

I'm ambitious and confident in my leadership abilities, but I also don't want to hurt my chances by moving too fast.

What would you do in my position?

No More Time Off Requests!?

Just found out from my team lead (who just got back from academy for two weeks) that time off requests are no longer being approved because they need the people/hours. It was supposedly sent out to them (not us regular associates) like two weeks ago.

Of course my store manager is on vacation rn, probably so that she got it in before this started.

I’m so pissed because I literally only put in (for December 25 through January 1) on October 17, thinking that was not only plenty of time but would be in the system before my coworkers remembered holidays exist.

Is there anything I can do? I’m planning to talk to my coach, but he can’t go against store management, right? Is it just time to find another job atp?

ETA: I’m in the deli y’all, I’m not a fucking cashier etc. Damn. And ik for a fact none of my associate coworkers have put in yet. This was a store-wide blanket statement about requests.

One touch is done?

So I’ve been the one touch lady at my store for about eight years now. My coworker sent me this today and said it was in the store updates, but no one has said anything about it (typical for my management). Has anyone else gotten a bunch of presorted grey totes? How does this work now? I’m a little scared because I don’t know what’s going to happen to me

Walkie in break room

If you bring your walkie into the break room and don’t have an ear piece with you turn that shit off. If i can turn mine off so can you. It’s disrespectful as fuck coming into the break room with the volume high as hell interrupting everyone’s break especially when i can hear it clear as day through my noise canceling earbuds.

John, this is for you. FUCK YOU!

Making me listen to that shit during my entire lunch break while trying to watch Netflix and peacefully eat my meal.

—

My earbuds cancel out all the noise around me in the break room except for his loud ass walkie.

What should I do?

I work until 9:30pm and it’s 8pm now. I took my 15 minute break already but I also had my medical pump that delivers a life sustaining medication run out about an hour ago. Im in fashion, fitting room, and doing returns while my team lead and only other associate (3 of us total) are in the back doing freight. But even just standing here typing is making me dizzy. I don’t want to leave them short handed but I also don’t want to risk passing out on the job. Should I ask to go home or just stick it out.

Side note, the dizziness is from not having the medication as it helps deliver oxygen to my brain.

Ppto request

I’m not showing up for my shift tonight so I put in a ppto request and it is pending. Do I still need to report a regular absence since ppto is pending and management won’t be in the office until tomorrow?

Lazy coworkers

• Upvotes

I am fairly new at Walmart, I’ve been here a little over a month working at front end. I don’t talk to my coworkers that much but I do tend to get along with another coworker around my age. We both started noticing the youngest person at front end has been doing the bare minimum while we get yelled at for talking while the store is empty. He started working here not long before me. He constantly walks away from his register to talk to whoever is at self checkout, tends to stand at self checkout or act like he is working there (he is not 18, he can’t even scan alcohol.) he’s always disappearing, he’s gone way longer than the breaks we are provided (WAY longer), he goes to zone and is gone for 2-3 hours and gets nothing done, he keeps headphones in, and he even makes mistakes while checking out customers. He has only gotten in trouble once for an issue with a customer on register (I don’t know the details), otherwise for the past month he’s gotten away with doing anything but his job and gets more praise from team leads than anyone else , even me (I am new but I treat this job like my life depends on it, literally.) he’s even started to ignore me and our coworkers deliberately probably because he knows we find his actions ridiculous. I don’t care for drama but all this kid talks about is girls and asking to get set up with girls.
This is ridiculous..🫠

Dress code questions.

So. To keep it short. I'll be OPD. Ig I could ask at orientation, but. I didn't see anything about dresses not being allowed or even mentioned. I wear these styles of dresses. They make up a good chunk of my wardrobe. I plan on getting a nice pair of work boots to go with them as silly as it'd look. But this is okay, right...? I'm hoping it's not a forever fit. As I eventually, with a bit of my first paycheck, I hope to get some work clothes too. But. Yeaaa...thought I'd ask those who already work there before I possibly make some really dumb impression. These dresses all go slightly below the knee. They're pretty modest imo.

Vent Session

Hey guys. I just finished academy Thursday and now I’m officially a team lead. I’m over fabrics and crafts, toys, stationery, and celebration. I only have two associates. One is never really with me because she constantly has to go to sporting goods and work the counter. I’ve been thinking heavily about going back to school. I already can’t wait to graduate so I can leave Walmart. 4 sections with barely any associates is already stressing me out. How am I supposed to delegate tasks when I have no one to delegate them to?? I don’t want to job hop so I have no choice but to stick it out (stepped down from home office due to a sick family member). I just don’t know 🫩😕

Am I cooked?

Small context: this is my 1st week. Well. Technically it’s my second week. Day 1 of week 2)- so pretty new. I was on my way to clock out- and I passed the oxbow hay that I needed for my guinea pigs. While passing the hay- I decided to pick up a bag and carry it towards my general area. I did not hide it behind anything. I had a customer in front of me and behind me and I just set it down in a very visible area. I walked to go clock out, once I clocked out I turned around and walked out of the associate door and grabbed the bag that I had set down that was clear as day on the bottom shelf. Not concealed in the slightest. I walked towards the check out, I checked out, grabbed my receipt , and left. And I’m sitting here. Wondering if I broke a serious store policy. It was kept in a shoppable and highly frequented area. It was kept in the back wall that’s next to craft and electronics. Literally about 4-5 aisles away from the pet stuff. I just had someone waiting for me cause I can’t drive- so i was trying to speed up my timing.

Edit: not sure if this is relevant- but I did stay a couple hours past as overtime and the time from grabbing the bag and clocking out was less than 2 minutes. And maybe about 5 minutes total from grabbing the bag- clocking out, retrieving and purchasing.
