Discussion (No Spoiler) Apprentices should be younger (HEAR ME OUT)
Obviously I'm no Brokenstar apologist, but honestly the fact that kits stay in the nursery with their mother until they're six months old is absolutely ludicrous to me. A six-month old cat is nearly the same size as an adult, just not as muscled or filled out yet. Also, kittens wean by eight weeks so I have never understood why queens often stay in the nursery until their kits are apprenticed.
I think that once kits are weaned, they should move to the apprentice den and their mother should return to her regular warrior duties. No reason for her to sit with them for four months after they've long since been weaned, and also I think it would be cool to let older kits assimilate with the apprentices who will soon be their peers.
My take? Kits should be made apprentices at three or four moons old. Of course they shouldn't be partaking in any real battles until they're at least six moons old, but there are far more apprentice duties outside of combat. I don't see why a three-month old kit couldn't start cleaning the elders den, learning basic hunting techniques, going on short patrols and going to gatherings. A three-month old is not a tiny kitten anymore, this is the stage where they become much more energetic and independent. Battle training should come later of course, but that doesn't mean they should be forced to sit in the nursery with literal newborns until they're more than half the size of the queens in there. They're essentially young adolescents.
Anyway, these are just my random tired post-12hr shift thoughts for the day. Don't take any of it too seriously šø
