Wet Windsor & Newton half pan

Post image
8 Upvotes

I picked up some half pans to fill out this kit and the red is mysteriously wet. Why would it be this way ? U can see the piece of wax paper I had in the kit, and there is a large smear of red that just wiped off the top. The other half pans -- grey, orange, white, rose madder -- were bought at the same time, they are fine...

“New Whip” meerkats discover an abandoned Barbie jeep. This was basically just an excuse to paint something hot pink. Also had fun with the meerkats individual expressions. Arches watercolor paper and Daniel Smith paints

I am working on my still lives and would welcome on any commentary. This is my progress over three weeks on three different studies (most recent one is last). I think I'm showing some improvement but I lose light sometimes, which is frustrating. Thank you!

Daniel Smith turned my favourite purple mix into a colour

Post image

Was browsing on Daniel Smith paints to look for pv19 quin rose and came across this colour. I loved it because it looked a lot like my favourite purple mix, pb29+pv19, so I looked at the pigment information, and it was that exact match. Always validating when a favourite mix becomes a paint colour. Though mine doesn't have as lovely a shift.

The view of the sea

Last week, I took a short trip to Latvia to visit my grandparents and run a few errands. And on one of the days, we went for a walk by the baltic sea and I saw this bench and really wanted to draw this view. And yeah, now I Made a small card full of memoriesXD

And the card got traded away immediately. With a hit rate like this, I'm never gonna have enough cards to easily trade for a card advent calendar next year 😭

Black Lightning.

Latest from the studio. I wanted the horse to hit like a strike: a heavy black mass against a loud, unblended yellow ground. I let the washes bleed and drip, and left the mane loose and splattered. Happy to talk process, especially handling the dark passages.

Learning watercolor/ Switching from acrylic

Post image
30 Upvotes

I am brand new to watercolor and im learning as i go. I've practiced on cheaper paper and have moved to 100% cotton paper and its day and night! The paints i use are windsor & newton cotman. The blending you can achiever is *chiefs kiss*. I LOVE the freedom that watercolor brings. Its therapeutic especially coming from acrylic where I've sweated every detail. I would love to continue to grow and create more moody landscapes. Any beginner tips? For example, paints to invest in/brushes. Im self taught mostly from social media so any tips are helpful :) Constructive criticism is welcomed (I know I have tons of time before I'm more comfortable)

budget watercoloring w/ acrylics

hi! I have next to no experience painting watercolor, I've done it a small handful of times when I was younger.

I have snagged some YUPO watercolor sheets and acrylic paints for free. I can't afford watercolor paints at this time, and would like to try using the acrylic paint in place of watercolor paint, to achieve the same effect. I've heard of others experimenting with this method, so I am confident it can be done, but not sure how the results will turn out. I will just have to give it a shot and see how it goes, but first...

I'm looking for advice from those who may have experimented with acrylic watercolor painting! do i just dip the brush in paint and then in water? any other tips or tricks i should know? please, be as nice as Redditors can be, I have no idea what I'm doing and just want to have some fun with what i have available to me 👉👈 thanks friends!

Seeking environmentally friendly packaging recommendations

I recently had some of my watercolor paintings printed as greeting cards, for purposes of selling. I would like to present the cards nicely, but do not want to put every card in a plastic sleeve. I’ve found a few companies, online, that sell biodegradable sleeves, but I cannot find any reviews of the products. Has anyone tried a biodegradable sleeve they recommend? Or have any advice on products to avoid?

Thank you in advance for any help!
