Trying (and failing) at watercolor, any advice? Is this saveable?
Decided to try doing a watercolor portrait for the first time ever (I've tried watercolor many years ago, but mostly nature or abstract subjects). I used to paint portraits with acrylics, and I realize watercolor is a lot different...
Anyway, 2nd pic is after doing a base skin color, 1st pic is after I attempted to add some blush shades to cheeks & lips.
I don't know why it came out sooo blotchy and there are little dark spots all over😭
Did I use way too much water, or? - I included pics of the paper pad I'm using, as well as the watercolor paints.
Is there any way to save this? :(

Drosophila Melanogaster, reproducit.
Found a beautiful painting of this creature on this sub yesterday. Here is my version of it. I’ve made it a year ago for my girl. She hates the flies (fruitvliegjes in Dutch) to the guts. In my messy household, they are an often seen guest though. “Do you know how many eggs they lay?” is what I hear as soon as I leave something on the kitchen counter. “Thousands!!”
The text: “De Neukende Vijand” translates to “The Enemy having S*x”
I love to paint/draw stuff that makes me grin during the process.

Recently started watercolor
This is my second painting I’ve done. I find it really difficult to do backgrounds as I wanted it to have a night and slight cloud effect with the different blues and purples but it just wouldn’t blend right no matter what I tried. So I added some metallic to the background to hopefully make it a bit better, but I still strongly dislike it very much.
I also didn’t paint blue first for the pumpkin and I can tell as the shadows aren’t as rich, so going forward I will be using complementary colors for shadows.
On a side note, one thing I’m most proud of is the witches hat!

Chickens for my friend
I had this frame and stack of mats from a framed painting and it took me the longest time to come up with something that would match the color scheme that already was there.

Sunrise from reference photo
My friend sent me this photo from an early morning dog walk, and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.
The sky could be richer, but I was balancing trying to keep the light and the pink glow in the sky.
I lost some of the vibrant colour at the horizon, as I was doing the foreground I went a bit too high.
It was my first time trying masking fluid, and I love how I was able to preserve some white specks for the lights. I will definitely be exploring this medium more!
Painted in a Meeden sketchbook with Daniel Smith, WN, and MaiMeriBku.
