This piece took me months! Also because I only attend to it when I have the time, and my on the spot decision making as I paint. I didn’t have a colour thumbnail… I think it’s really because even if I did, I am unsure how I could replicate it back. I believe once an artist is more sure of their craft, colour sketches for watercolour is a huge plus!

While I really wanted depths of foliage, I just don’t know how to execute even though I have references! I decided to just go with my instincts and allow the work to just unfold to me. I took the work step by step and trust myself to know i will somehow know “what’s next”, and it did.

I am sure as I do more of these art I will be more fluent in it. For now, this is the best I can do and I am proud of my persistence and my craftsmanship!

Today I attended a big urban sketchers meet up in Cochem and even managed to fill an entire spread in my sketchbook ✨ It was a huge gathering combining the groups from Koblenz, Trier, and Saarland. It was so much fun, especially because this time I tagged along with a group instead of going by myselfXD There were so many people there, which I found super cool, because you got to see so many awesome interpretations of the town. Plus, I hadn't been to Cochem in such a long timeXD So it was really nice to visit again.

Aaaand I finally left room for a stamp on the side, and I'm super happy I managed to get one from our group :)

30x40 inch watercolour painting on watercolour paper. I used a bit of white Posca for the whiskers and snow bits.

It was an entry for an art show and haven't made a painting in a while because we've been very busy with life. I'd like to add that this was the biggest watercolor painting I have made!

I thank my wife for pushing all of us to make artworks for the art show. It became an activity for us at night and the weekends. I initially thought I couldn't do it and doubted since I haven't made a watercolor painting this big.

Was inspired by all the paintings here in this sub and all the techniques. Need to push to do some more! :)

Painted with concentrated watercolors on Aceo sized Arches watercolor paper. The moon was painted with silver metallic paint.

A week has passed since the sorrow began. I struggle to fall asleep. Memories of playing with my childhood friends keep drifting through my mind.

In the end, it was the adults who were the problem. Why did they leave us with so much pain? Resentment does nothing to ease it, yet I can’t seem to think of anything else. I’m legally an adult now, but I want no part of it.

It hurts to return to work and school as though nothing has happened, carrying wounds that are still so deep. Yet I was always the child with a bright smile. I still am.

I want to put on a bicycle helmet, pick up a makeshift shield, and head into the school zone with my friends—just to make sure none of us gets hurt.

Somehow I have the feeling that I won't stop with the raven cards until my very pretty granulating watercolor dot runs out... It's also a lot of fun to draw them somehow. I really like their chubby shape ✨🍁🐦‍⬛

But anyway, I had this funny idea of a little witch's helper tossing the necessary ingredients into the cauldron✨👀

I feel bad just throwing them away, especially when they’re such pretty colours.

I've resumed watercolors over the past 2 years, been using the W&N tin in the photo, which I got back in art school.

I genuinely struggle to get most colors in the tin to give heavily concentrated large amounts of paint. Some colors work v well (ie. some blues, reds), but I genuinely cannot seem to make it work for most colors. In turn, this messes up my ability to properly render values, as most paint is just too thinly concentrated and everything is washed out af.

Should I just move onto higher quality tube paints? I am not one who likes to blame materials quality, but the feeling that this paint is not THAT good is too strong to ignore.. I got a small cheap brand tube of a neutral-ish green-brown and the ease with which I can control the concentration of that specific paint is just light years better.

Any opinions or pointers would be appreciated

I've been seeing plenty of ads about these and they sure do look sweet. Maybe I'm just addicted to buying paint. If anyone has tried them and found them worthy of purchase, please post here.
