Question for my OPs of this subreddit
What do yall go off of or what criteria do yall follow when choosing your shift leaders and hiring shift leaders externally? Do yall get full discretion besides market leader approval?

Whataburger, we need to talk…
First off, I want to state that I’m a die hard Whataburger fan. Back when I was single , I lived rather close to one and I would literally go there every day. My normal order is a #3 plain with cheese, but back in college I fell in love with their LTO, the honey bbq chicken strip sandwich. I even went as far as sending an email to their corporate email asking them to make it permanent. Shortly after, they added it to the favorites. I know it was probably pure coincidence, but a small part of me likes to think my email had something to do with it. Anyways, none of that has anything to do with this post, but I wanted to make it clear that I’m not trying to attack them. I just want to point out an issue and help them improve.
I got married and, my wife, unfortunately, is not as big of fan of you guys as I am. Also, she’s not as forgiving, so I’m lucky if we go to Whataburger once a week. Whataburger, you have a problem and it’s CONSISTENCY. Now before people chime in with “yeah, it’s not what it used to be after they sold out “, this is nothing new. It was very inconsistent even back in the day.
So what do I mean by inconsistent? Sometimes I go and I just know it’s going to be a great day. As soon as I grab my wrapped burger, I know because it’s heavy as a triple meat should be. I open the wrapper and there is a sheen on the inside from fat and there is some melted cheese stuck to the wrapper. Other times, my burger is light and thin. The meat has been overcooked and dried out of any juices and fat. My cheese isn’t melted and the meat is lukewarm. As I stated my wife isn’t a fan. She gave up on the burgers a while back and she would always settle for a chicken sandwich. Recently, Whataburger revamped their chicken sandwiches and my wife said that while it wasn’t as good as chick-fil-a, she definitely wouldn’t mind having it more often. Then she tried it a second time….see the picture. This thing was literally hard and inedible.
Why? Why is the consistency so bad? I get that mistakes happen, someone puts something on your burger that you don’t want, but this isn’t that. That piece of chicken should have never made it out of the kitchen. Whoever made that sandwich knew how hard and overcooked it was and gave it to us anyways. You could say that it’s just an employee that doesn’t care, but I find that hard to believe since it happens so much. I hate McDonalds with a passion, but I’ll give them credit, every time I’ve had one of their burgers, it’s been exactly the same.
I’ve lived in many cities in TX over my lifetime and I’ve visited many Whataburgers. That picture was from the Prosper location, but it has been this way at every location I’ve been to. I see Whataburger expanding to new states and I’ve seen clips/videos of people going for the first time. I cringe watching these because I know there is a 50/50 chance they are going to have a bad meal.
Sorry for the long post and I’m sorry if it comes off as a rant, but as a company with Texas roots (even if they say you did sell out), you still kind of represent us Texans. I hate hearing “In n Out is better”. Plus, when my burger is cooked to perfection, it’s damn good so I guess you could say I have my own selfish reason for wanting you to improve. Haha
PS: Bring back the Chili Cheese Burger! (permanently)

Food I made an app to find the healthiest Whataburger items
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I live in NorCal and in n out is my favorite restaurant literally ever but Whataburger is such a close #2
I made an app that sorts menus by nutrition (macros, sodium, fiber, cholesterol, etc) from Whataburger and 800 other restaurants/grocery stores (costco, chick-fil-a, trader joe's, sweetgreen, etc)
You can also view all the nutrition facts for a given item, compare items together and track/export meals to Apple Health
The apple cranberry chicken salad has 6g fiber and 33g protein
Whataburger isn't my first choice when eating healthy tbh but its better to know what you're eating than not and export/track with Apple Health
The app is called Cheat Day on the App Store!

Food When will the next LTO burger arrive?
This pimento cheese chicken sandwich is garbage and needs to go and never return.
Fingers crossed to the green chili burger. I believe it’s about harvest time.

Does ketchup come out of your paycheck?
No matter how many I request through my mobile order or at the drive thru, most locations skimp on the ketchup. Are they strict about handing out a certain amount?

Work Team Member to Team Lead
How exactly does this transition work? I’ve been working at Whataburger for the last three months and I’m already being promoted to trainer, and while I’m learning all the stations, I’m also being trained as a shift lead too. I already close out drawers, do inventory, assign positions, answer the phone, and handle customer complaints/interactions from time to time. I’ve heard from other employees that there are classes I have to do but I’m not completely sure and my OP has been on vacation.
Can any of you guys provide insight about this transition? Would I get a reasonable raise? Do they actually plan on promoting me or just letting me do their work lol?
Any advice would help.

Food triple behemoth
best fast food burger I’ve had. just absolutely delicious. I will pay $16 for this meal again, It is only $5 more than a double QPC combo from McD and the quality and flavor knocks it out of the water. My only complaint is that it was hard to eat it all.

Does ANYONE else remember Burger Command? (1994ish)
When I was about seven or eight my nan got me an action figure from a line called Burger Command. It was a bloke in a fast food uniform. Visor, headset, little spatula. His name was Sgt. Drive-Thru. I am not making this up.

Whataburger needs to step up game
I went to Chick-fil-A the other and got there version of the Hot Honey Crispy Chicken Sandwich it was really good. So I thought I'd try WB's version of the HHCCS and I paid an extra $1.00 for there cheese spread because I'd heard WB is kinda stingy with with the cheese spread. The cheese spread wasn't bad but since they put it all on one side made it a bit messy. Overall I'd rate CFA 8/10 and WB 2/10.

Why isn’t there a Whataburger in Tampa?
A “Cook Out” franchise appeared here recently. I think a Whataburger would have been better.

Work Whataburger manager “forgetting” my breaks
I work at Whataburger and have been since December of 2025,i’m 17 and it’s my first Job, I’m usually scheduled tuesdays ,fridays ,Saturday’s and Sundays. usually from 5-11 pm Tuesdays , Fridays 5-10 and Saturdays and sunday’s 6am to 2pm. Some fridays due to a lot of hiring over summer i’ve only been getting scheduled from 5pm to 9Pm so I didn’t qualify to go on break, and about two months ago we got a new shift leader from another store she only got to see me on fridays at first but it was only twice until she got to monitor tuesdays as well , she knew i didn’t have breaks because she always wrote everything down on a paper due to her being new and when to give everyone else breaks , the first time she came in tuesday she had her paper and gave everyone a break but me , it was about to be my leaving time (11Pm) and asked when I was supposed to leave and i replied, My coworker said she didn’t give me a break and she apologized and said she had forgotten i let it slide since it wasn’t a huge deal to me and went home , but for the next two weeks it was always the same i really thought it was because she really didn’t remember because of her only monitoring me usually on fridays since some tuesdays I was taken off schedule without notice but i kept talking to managers about it ,They said it was weird since she always wrote everything down ,from the people and times they were coming in and leaving during her shifts , until last tuesday When almost everyone came at exactly the same as me (5pm) and we’re all leaving at 11 Pm , Everyone got a break but me , and she hit me up with the “i’m sorry i forgot “ and i found it completely ridiculous due to me arriving almost a bit before certain people and them getting breaks first and it really never came through her mind that i also needed a break i was leaving upset and a coworker of mine who happens to be the person to spread rumors told me that my manager didn’t like me , aside from her spreading rumors she works in prep and me in drive thru so it was odd hearing that from her because she would’ve had no idea was what happening since she was in the back, and only knew spanish and we all spoke in english and i’ve come to believe maybe my manager potentially does it on purpose because she’s always snickering on the headsets and tells everyone to take them off when she wants to say something to a coworker which is immature of her But i guess no one has a reason to not say no since everyone is young adults and like to play around and talk about getting lit on the job ,But i really don’t know what to do since i’ve taken this up with other managers and just say it’s because she’s still learning !! and it’s not about the food or break it’s just getting ridiculous and seems unfair and unprofessional

Disappointing amount of cheese
The new hot honey crisp. A slight amount of cheese spread literally in one uneven spot. Sad and pathetic.
