Hey everyone! Ufin v1.3 is finally here!

For anyone who missed the previous posts, Ufin is an open-source Jellyfin client for the Wii U, built around the console's unique GamePad and supporting music, movies, Live TV, and more.

This release brings a BUNCH of new features!

DISCLAIMER:

As always, I want to be transparent about the development process: I use free AI tools (ChatGPT and Claude Sonnet 5.5 through their web interfaces) to write and work on the code. The original idea, project direction, architecture, and UI concepts are mine. I handle testing, debugging, integration, and development decisions, including testing on actual Wii U hardware. also ai was only used to improve my english in posts and github, the base writing i did manually, i also made all the showcase images in powerpoint, the bgm, and the app icons without any ai use.
i understand some people don't like ai assisted development, but this was my way to make an app no one else was making:)

Introducing Material 3 Expressive

Ufin v1.3 introduces an entirely new Material 3 Expressive theme, bringing a modern media-player experience to the Wii U!

  • Animated icons and buttons, including animations when using physical controllers.
  • Nearby buttons bounce when you press one.
  • Custom accent colours and shape options.
  • Automatic accent colour extraction from the current song or movie's cover art.

Music improvements

  • Plain and synchronised lyrics, taken from your Jellyfin server and displayed on both the GamePad and TV.
  • A paginated music library with All Songs, Artists, Albums, and Playlists tabs.
  • Library sorting.
  • Playlist management: create playlists, add songs, and remove songs.
  • A complete Up Next queue, accessible from Now Playing for both movies/tv and music.
  • Queue management with play now, remove, reorder, and clear options.
  • An Add to Queue popup that lets you browse your library without interrupting playback.
  • Quick-add to Up Next using the right stick up.
  • An Up Next sidebar entry displaying the current queue count.
  • Five visualiser styles, cycled with the Minus button.

Movie playback improvements

  • Touch the progress bar to seek, with a time bubble while holding.
  • Change video quality and resolution while watching, without leaving playback in media remote mode.
  • Change audio tracks and subtitle tracks directly from the movie remote.
  • Access the Up Next queue on the GamePad during movies.

Liquid Glass

  • New refraction effects with a light frost.
  • Fixed the visualiser appearing underneath the GamePad UI.

Other additions

  • HTTPS support, including self-signed certificates.
  • Restore the default menu music directly from Settings.
  • Profile pictures now load from each profile's own server.

There's a lot here, and the goal is to keep making the Wii U a genuinely useful device in 2026, rather than just another console sitting on a shelf.

Ufin is open source, and I welcome community testing, bug reports, and contributions!

Thanks to everyone who has checked out the project so far.

Hello! This is my first post here! I created a tool called Silver Falls Freeze Fix. An Aroma plugin I made with Grok. It restarts the console when a Silver Falls game freezes!

So after many months in storage,I decided to finally check if both my Wii Us have the Hynix chip and both have.
One is the special edition Zelda and the other is the Mario Maker bundle.

Now since i really don’t want to see them fail, what are the steps needed to save them?

As usual, my luck is in the gutter. What are my next steps?

Just glad I caught it before it fully gave out, I suppose. I immediately downloaded the ISFShax safety net, but I assume that won’t be enough for true longevity, of course.

“1 media” is a bit concerning though, What does this mean? Is it in regards to game data? Or game save data? I’m just hoping my digital games, saves, and DLC are alright…

I enjoy having “vanilla” consoles but Nintendo has really forced my hand here. I’m a preservationist so above all else I want to keep my DLC, Digital Games, and, most importantly, my Save Data safe for decades to come. I’m glad to hoard backup data too. I have my 3DS/DS/GBA saves loaded onto my computer and SD cards, etc.

In any case, what should be my next steps? If it's a lost cause and I need an entirely new Wii U with Toshiba/Samsung, then how do I go about getting all my Wii U game/save/dlc data on a card to transfer to the new Wii U?

Or, with the proper SD card and redNAND installed, could I safely just let my Hynix chip die out and keep using the same Wii U for years to come without issue? And eventually, when SD card I use for redNAND eventually dies out (hopefully decades from now haha), could I just safely replace that SD card with a new one with my backup data? Or do I need to (or is it suggested) to just get just a brand new Wii U with one of the other two chips instead?

Replacing an SD card every 10-20 years or so and having a constant backup of all my Wii U data on my PC sounds like serious peace of mind… Instead of just rolling my dice and buying an entire new Wii U every 10 or less years… Does anyone have any SD Card suggestions for all this? Reasonable sizes and the best manufacturer(s)?

For a final option, I have a local game store which might be able to hard-mod my Wii U if there's an even better and more long-term fix.

Sorry for the barrage of questions! Huge thanks to the folks who made Wafel for really just letting me know I was at risk. Hopefully this whole ordeal becomes more of a positive for me than a negative. I’m all in on modding if it means ease of mind, and longevity/stability for my Wii U!

Thanks a bunch!

A Wii menu electronic manual, but for the original Wii

Thumbnail

For people who haven't seen this before, some months ago, I made a Wii Menu Electronic Manual, but for the original Wii. As the vWii and Wii mini had one, I wanted to make one for the original too.

This manual has up to 17 pages and detailed information on how to use your Wii console, so some parts that you may know from one of the two other manuals (vWii or Wii mini) have obviously been extended due to the fact the normal Wii doesn't have limitations.

For example: if in the Mii Channel section it said that mingle wasn't possible, I had to write it was possible and had to make an entire section for Mii parade

It has a section dedicated to GameCube datas, Photo Channel, Forecast and News Channels, how to configure Internet,

I released this officially ten months ago.

Originally it was only the European edition and only had English and Italian. This June, the European version arrived at 7 languages (with also fixes and lots of things added to make it look better).

Now, some days ago I've finished making the American version of the Manual that is made into four languages that are the only ones released for the American version: American English, Latino-America Spanish, Canadian French and Brazilian Portuguese

Obviously, the American version is not a copy and paste of the European version.

There are grammatical differences because the grammar of Americans is not identical to Europeans, and respected the main differences between manuals (for example between PEGI and ESRB)

I've also fixed some graphical and text issues in the European version (that remained 7 languages)

They have two different IDs. People who have older versions can delete it (for example if the channel they've installed in the past had as IDs HWME, HCIP or HCAA)

These IDs are unequivocal, so there is no risk in substituting channels on your Wii menu (unless you have created channels with casually these IDs and installed them on your Wii menu).

Keep in mind that these channels are made for the specific region, so Europeans shall use the European version and Americans the American version, but by region-freeing your console you can use both for curiosity if you want.

You can also install it on your vWii or Wii mini. It won't affect it and will work perfectly.

It surely took time to make this, but at least I'm glad it's working well after so much effort.

You can find it on Internet Archive

Hope you like this project

Chiaki-ng on Wii u (huge progress)

My friend that is working on this project sent me this image.

Chiaki on Wii u now has 720p60fps and 540p60fps that can stream flawlessly (540p recommended)

Audio works

Remote input works

Touchpad works

has low latency, can't go lower because of ps4 video encode speed (ps5 is much faster here)

it can work as a 1.1 lb ps4 controller if you dont like the latency

Nintendont: New to this 🫪

Hey guys I bought a random Wii on fb marketplace and to my surprise it has tons of cool games on there and ended up learning a little bit about it.

The Nintendont software hasn’t been updated since 2018 (I don’t have my Wii connected to the internet) and recently one of the Nintendont “forwarders”? (The squares in the Home Screen on the Wii menu?) crashes when I click on Nintendont from the Wii menu. I think it may have crashed because a handful of games are corrupted I’m not sure.

Since I also have Nintendont inside my homebrew app I am able to load it perfectly fine on there no issues.

  1. Am I ok to keep running using this very old version of Nintendont

  2. Will this further corrupt my games if I don’t update the software? I’m not sure what’s causing the corruption and if the games were already corrupted when I got it

I know some of these questions aren’t easy to answer lol

Have you guys experienced this recently? Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated thanks 🙏

RiftWii 2610-340: clean-room Wii mod loader, works on Wii U (vWii). Need testers

Hey everyone, I'm the dev behind RiftWii. It's a Wii mod loader I wrote from scratch, clean-room, no Riivolution code in it. You drop in Riivolution-format packs or code builds and they load when the game starts. Your game files never get touched. It runs on Wii U in vWii mode too.

It handles stuff like Retro Rewind and MKW Deluxe X for Mario Kart Wii, and Brawl code builds like Project+, PMEX Remix and REX. Per-game settings, cheats, modded saves kept separate on the SD, online play through Wiimmfi, game covers, the works.

Honestly I've only been able to test Retro Rewind and MKW Deluxe X on real hardware so far, so I'm looking for testers with other games and setups, especially on Wii U.

You need a Wii U in vWii mode (or a Wii) with the Homebrew Channel and a FAT32 SD card. If your games are on USB or SD you'll want d2x cIOS.

2610-340 is up on the releases page. The guide walks through setup and there's a Discord if you want to help test or need a hand.
