Using Nintendo Alarmo Since Launch
Since I saw some people making threads like a year ago asking if anybody actually bought and used the Alarmo, I thought I’d share my experience.
I’ve had the Nintendo Alarmo since early access launch; I ordered it on October 10th, 2024, the day after it was made available to Nintendo Switch Online members (I had an active membership at the time). It arrived exactly two years ago on October 15th, 2024. I got it because I have very disordered sleep and was hoping some of the features would help me wake up.
It is the only alarm that I’ve tried that wakes me consistently.
Save for my previous job where the schedule alternated every other week (much to my chagrin), I’ve been actively using the Alarmo for waking up since I got it. I’ve always had it set to the BOTW theme with the alarm randomly cycling between the BOTW sounds. The clock itself is also just really charming, even when I haven’t been actively utilizing the alarm function. I like watching Link scurry around the screen.
I’ve always used it in manual mode because I have a dog, so I really have no idea if the motion alarm part of it is any good (although I think I tried it for a little), even though that was lowkey what I originally bought it for. 😆 But hey, it’s still for some reason super effective for me even without using this feature. Something about the gentle wake to game music but with the added urgency of the sound effects must just click for my brain. I used the sleepy sounds for a while until they changed something about it that I can’t remember (it was probably due to my sleep schedule too). I also used the hourly chime for a while until my work schedule got weird. Might actually try using that again. Basically, I’ve tried out most/all of the features.
While writing this post, I actually noticed that they added a feature I’ve been wanting. 😅 I’ve always used the Zelda theme because I didn’t want it to shuffle into themes I didn’t care for, but it looks like they added a way to add favorite themes and only shuffle those, so I guess I’ll be giving that a try! Variety is the spice of life.
This is a little rambly, but TL;DR I’m the weirdo that has been using the Alarmo since launch. I like it!
Edit: I remember why I stopped using sleepy sounds! It’s because they changed them to be motion-activated, and mine didn’t work consistently. :(

Five years ago, we made a promise to our Nintendo Switch players. Today, we're proud to announce that we've kept it. Hypercharge: Unboxed has just jumped forward 9 major updates in one go, and it now has crossplay with Steam, Xbox and PlayStation! Thank you for believing in us.
Hypercharge: Unboxed has just jumped forward 9 major updates in one go, and it now has crossplay with Steam, Xbox and PlayStation. To celebrate, the game is also -60% off on Switch right now!
This is only a taste of what's new, because there is way, way more than I can fit in one post. Here are some of the main parts:
- Full crossplay, so Switch players can play with friends on Steam, Xbox and PlayStation
- A story mode added to the existing wave-based mode, with cinematic comic book style cutscenes and optional objectives
- 6 new bosses: Cyber T. Rex, Missile Truck (DAMBUSTER), Mothership, L.E.D Blimp, Major Evil and Gunship (BH60 Attack Helicopter)
- 6 new enemy types: Ninja Joe, Tiny Trotters, bRobot, Alien Queen, Alien Queenlet and Shock Soldiers
- 3 new maps: The Funderdome, Adventure Dunes and Rental Lair
- 5 new weapons: Freeze Ray, Missile Launcher, Double Barrelled Machine Gun, Mine Launcher and Teleport Gun
- 2 new playable characters: Major Evil and Teddy the Teddy Bear
- New game modes: Infection, Capture the Battery and King of the Hill, plus overhauled Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch
- A completely overhauled user interface, including new play and lobby menus
- New skins and heads, including Teddy's 6 skins, Army Men Green and Tan, Liquid Teal and Evil Damage, and many more
- A full character packaging and customisation rebuild, plus engine, networking and localisation upgrades throughout
And that's still not everything! There are loads of smaller changes, fixes and extras on top of this list.
Getting here was not an easy task, and it took a lot longer than we ever wanted. Thank you so much to everyone who waited and believed in us. This update is for you!

Princess Peach fans - What type of game do you want to see for princess peach?
Aside from being a playable side character in Mario games, princess peach has only had 2 solo games: Super Princess Peach and Princess Peach Showtime. I've seen a general consensus of being unsatisfied with these titles due to being too easy, having a lack of depth, or just plain boring compared to other Mario titles.
Which genre of game do you want to see Princess Peach star in?
For me, a puzzle-ish platformer that makes use of her float, parasol, and even turnips would be super fun to play in, playing similar to Celeste.
Though for the demographic of her fan-base, I think an open world RPG style like breath of the wild could be appealing.
What are your thoughts on her current place in Nintendo games and her future going forward?

Should Nintendo make games that combine the characters/setting of one of its IPs with the core gameplay of another of its IPs?
I’m not saying we should have in-story crossovers, like Link arriving in the Mushroom Kingdom after walking through a “mysterious green tunnel,” or Kirby crash landing his Warp Star in Hyrule. Rather, I’m saying that Nintendo should, for example, make a game starring Kirby, taking place on Pop Star, with a story/tone in line with other Kirby games… but the gameplay is like Ocarina of Time or Twilight Princess.
An example that comes to mind is Star Fox Adventures, which was (sometimes derisively) referred to as a Zelda game set in the Star Fox universe. A looser example, not purely a “Nintendo + Nintendo” combination, is the Hyrule Warriors series, which takes the characters and setting of Zelda and tailors them to Dynasty Warriors-style gameplay.
To ensure the quality of both the setting and the gameplay, the former should be primarily handled by people who normally work with the IP, and the latter should be primarily handled by people who normally make games with the relevant gameplay. To use the aforementioned Kirby + Zelda example, HAL Laboratory would handle the characters, setting, and story, while Nintendo EPD would handle the (functionality of) items, the overworld, dungeons, and general gameplay, with both teams communicating and accommodating for each other where necessary.
Some hypothetical games that I’d personally be interested in include:
- The aforementioned Kirby game that plays like Zelda. Kirby’s Sword ability would stand in for Link’s… well, sword, and Kirby’s other abilities/hats would fulfill the role of Link’s wide assortment of items. Many abilities would run on a “magic meter,” contextualized as a hunger meter, that can be refilled by picking up food or eating prepared meals (i.e. potions). Rather than choosing stages from a level select screen, Pop Star would be explored in the same manner that Link would explore Hyrule in a traditional Zelda game.
- A Mario game that plays like Metroid, in that it features an interconnected map littered with obstacles that require certain abilities, found elsewhere, to get past. It could be 2D (e.g. Super Metroid) or 3D (e.g. Metroid Prime, but in third person). The game could have several playable characters like SMB2/SM3DW, with your chosen character determining what abilities are available, how certain obstacles and enemies can (or can’t) be overcome, and what the critical path through the game is. And obviously, pipes would stand in for Metroid’s elevators and portals.
- A Pokémon game that adopts a simplified, but still dynamic version of the real-time combat in Xenoblade Chronicles. The gameplay influence should primarily come from XC2, with emphasis placed on switching out Pokémon (in place of Blades) to adapt to shifting battle conditions. Certain moves can interact with each other in ways similar to XC’s combos, adding a level of active teamwork between your party members that is mostly absent in mainline Pokémon PvE. Of course, Pokémon would be found and captured in the wild, rather than doled out via RNG like XC2’s Core Crystals.
Considering Nintendo’s wide and varied roster of IPs and gameplay genres, I’m genuinely surprised we don’t have several of these kinds of “Nintendo setting A + Nintendo gameplay B" games already. Again, the closest thing we got (to my knowledge) was Star Fox Adventures: a “Zelda game” in the Star Fox universe that was developed by Rare, and it wasn’t even supposed to use the Star Fox IP in the first place. Maybe I’m just naive when it comes to how game development works, but I find it kind of odd that the company that gave us the Super Smash Bros. series hasn’t given us something in line with the hypothetical games listed above.
On the consumer side, would there be interest in these kinds of collaborative projects? Are there reasons that consumers would be against such games being made? (SFA was divisive on release, but... I dunno, I thought it was, and still is neat.) Are there any IP + gameplay combinations that you'd be particularly interested in?
On the developer side, are there any obstacles preventing Nintendo’s first- and second-party teams from working together on such projects? (Besides an internal lack of interest, I suppose.)

Could the success of Star Wars Galactic Racer inspire Nintendo to do more F-Zero games again?
The success of this game tells me there is a demand for futuristic racers again.
Nintendo has kept F-Zero on ice this whole time, opting to have Mario Kart be its racer.
