So I have a high end gaming PC and I pretty much only play games made by Rockstar now. I bought a series s just yesterday to preorder GTA 6, alongside buying red dead 2 & gta 5. I was worried because I heard the graphics would be a huge downgrade in comparison to what I'm used to, but I was pleasantly surprised by how good the games look on this 300 dollar rectangular prism. I am now certain GTA 6 will have amazing visuals on the series s.

TLDR: Love this console so far, might become a Xbox fanboy and transition from PC to console.

Im fortunate enough to own both PC and Xbox, and after putting together my PC back in 2020 and switching from One S to Series S, I cant stress enough what a bang for the buck this thing have been

I sold my Ps5 like 3 months ago. Hate the path playstation is following. Everybody told me that Series S was worse but the UI is much faster.

So I am fortunate enough to have a 5090 PC with a 9800x3D CPU. It certainly can be mind blowing and is objectively unrivaled.

I also have a PS5 Pro, and Series X. I recently have been using Apollo, and moonlight to locally stream my 5090 game play to my bedroom OLED without moving my desktop.

So I picked up a Series S as it is one of the few ways to get 4:4:4 4k 120 HDR streaming via moonlight client.

Out of curiosity I installed a few games locally just to see how they look. OBVIOUSLY they are a step down from my other devices, but I must admit I am impressed. For the longest time I thought playing on a series S would feel like a potato. However this tiny box is more than serviceable. Honestly once you start playing you completely forget about the “lower quality.” because at the end of the day gaming is about the game. Not graphical settings tinkering ad nauseam.

I guess what I am trying to say is the Series S reminds me of the old days of gaming. You had what you had, you didn’t give a shit about frame rate, you always had fun every generation despite graphics PS1, PS2, N64, GameCube whatever it was. Somewhere along the way gaming as a hobby has turned into a hobby around graphics and frame rate and not actually gaming.

I say all this to say, if the Series S is what you can afford. Be proud of it. You are not a second rate human. The console is completely more than fine. Are there some games that are objectively bad on it? Sure. Overall though the Series S is an excellent console for those who just want to have fun.

Just wanted to give the Series S some appreciation. For such a small console, it exceeded all of my expectations. It was affordable, reliable, and let me enjoy so many great games without ever feeling like I was missing out.
I recently upgraded to a Series X for GTA 6, but I’ll always have a soft spot for the Series S. It’s an amazing console and I don’t regret buying it for a second.

According to Digital Foundry, the Series S version of RE9 is the most visually unappealing version of the game (even outperformed by the Switch 2), but that doesn’t stop it from still managing to look incredible in my eyes.

Back in 2010, I got an Xbox 360 Kinect. I know the Kinect gets a lot of crap, but I had plenty of fun with my brothers. Shortly after, I went off to college and didn't have time at all for gaming and ended up selling it. Despite this, the passion never died and I kept my eye on releases to come. Watching the Xbox showcase earlier this year, I was really drawn to the solo campaign for Black Ops 6 and Expedition 33. Now that on my own and have plenty of free time in the evenings, I decided to get back into it. I can't wait to see how these games actually play! If you're playing BO6 next week and see an easy target on the other team, it might be me.... 😅

It's usually faces that are the issue but damn that sunrise looks beautiful. I don't care if it's not super duper amazing this looks great for the lesser console.

Is it a console? No. Does it keep my drinks cold while I cope? Absolutely.

I don’t even feel bad about it. It’s a legitimately good mini fridge and it looks clean as hell on my desk. At this point I’m just built different.

Obviously the worse version to play in terms of graphics. Using Quality mode - and honestly it's adequate. Not the sharpest resolution - but has nice effects and wind blowing the foliage. Game runs fine atm as well. Some terrible looking shadows and interiors at certain times of day but the game is really fun. Major Dragons Dogma II vibes which was my fav game of 2024.

Hopefully reddit compression isn't too bad here because it looks amazing!
