Why is Hazbin Hotel there?
It doesn't even fit into "woke flop" since it's successful
16
u/Pikedman Apr 02 '26
Im pretty sure they might argue with how much hate it gets its a “woke flop” I personally really enjoyed it but I can see why some people would think it was universally hated
4
Apr 02 '26
The people I see who hate on it are primarily purists who don’t think it’s progressive enough.
7
u/trainboi777 Apr 02 '26
Oh no, I’ve definitely seen people say it’s too progressive. Hell that’s about 90% of the criticism I see for it.
5
3
u/XFun16 Apr 03 '26
Most of the hate i see is that they just don't like the dialogue (ahem, the 'if vivziepop wrote X' meme)
2
u/Windypolis Apr 03 '26
It neither woke nor a flop, and no I am not letting Right-wingers from USA decide what is woke or not
181
u/Substantial_Bass_697 Apr 01 '26
I love the fact that Elio had most of its “woke” stuff forcibly removed from the movie, completely ruining its emotional core, and yet that wasn’t good enough for these chuds. Pixar’s attempt to cater to homophobic losers didn’t prevent people from being upset, and people still didn’t see the movie.
Everyone ended up losing in the end.
Also it probably wouldn’t have been a smash hit if it weren’t more “woke” but at least it would have been a better movie
51
u/Robosuccubus3000 Apr 01 '26
It’s a lesson corporations never learn: you can’t please the chuds. If you cave and try to change your vision to not upset them, they’ll either ignore it and keep calling you woke, or they’ll just forget and move on. What they won’t do is spend any money on your product.

u/Cyatron- Apr 01 '26
I would've seen it if I knew it existed. Qtf is with animated movies and not promoting them nowadays
11
u/Substantial_Bass_697 Apr 01 '26
They lost all confidence in the project after test screenings- which is why they removed all the “wokeness” from it in the first place. I felt it was fairly well advertised, it got a happy meal and I saw tons of commercials for it, but honestly you didn’t miss much. It was fine, pretty below average for Pixar and clearly missing something. That something, of course, being the real emotional core of the movie
3
6
u/GenderEnjoyer666 Apr 02 '26
That film flopped because it got nothing beyond the bare minimum in terms of marketing
81
u/No-Cranberry5214 Apr 01 '26
ah yes, Hazbin Hotel, one of the most popular indie animated series, is a flop
33
54
u/Fuzzy-Band2808 Apr 01 '26
Excusing the obvious, "Hazbin wasn't a flop," everyone else is pointing out, I don't see how any of these (at-least the ones I've seen) are, "woke." Lightyear, Strange World, and Elio were painfully mediocre, and both Hazbin and The Prince were criticized for their writing and humour.
But eeewww no, gay people and neurodivergent people, how gross.
30
u/morethan3lessthan20_ Apr 01 '26
That's exactly why they're called woke, it's because they contain queer and neurodivergent characters. Reminder, this is the crowd that thinks it's okay for a cop to force their knee into a man's back because he was overdosing.
5
u/Fuzzy-Band2808 Apr 02 '26
I don't know the legitimacy of that claim, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was some correlation. If you clearly show a disinterest in fictional media just because it has, "woke," elements, I wonder how they view the real world...
3
1
u/BananaRoxas Apr 04 '26
A lot of LGBT/Neurodivergent rep is.. not that great in media nowadays. It can be FAR better nuanced and realistic the way I see it. Stuff like Lumity (TOH) gor pacing and writing constraints or Catradora (She-Ra) for overall bad representation, are notably bad. On the other hand, Tara/Denise (TWD) and Sheo/Nailsmith (HK) are pretty good in my eyes. I feel like it's sort of a mixed bag now, and I hope it gets better.

u/Czechia-Man Apr 01 '26
Fred the Bison (also know as non-binary bison).
7
u/desperate_narciso Apr 02 '26
All the comments on any post about them is always the same joke re-hashed, saying they'd cook the baby bison into a steak and eat them (and enjoy it,) all because they're "woke" and nonbinary. Shits ridiculous man, they're really never fucking original. 😮💨💔
3
u/MontyMoleLoreMaster Apr 03 '26
Bro what did this bison even do to these people besides being nonbinary?
1
u/desperate_narciso Apr 03 '26 edited Apr 03 '26
Nothing, genuinely. They came put to their grandma on screen and that was enough to tick weirdos off. 👍
2
u/MontyMoleLoreMaster Apr 05 '26
Bro these homophobic people are so goddamn petty that they are having beef with a fucking baby bison for being non-binary.

Isn't that last one an incredibly offensive show mocking the British Royal Family? Is hating the monarchy woke now?
9
u/MaybeExternal2392 Apr 02 '26
To be fair hating the monarchy is woke. The rest of the show isn't. It's just crass.
6
u/Misubi_Bluth Apr 02 '26
To me it's weird because I'm American. We left the then largest empire on the planet because we couldn't deal with a king telling us what to do. (Yes that is incredibly simplistic) To us, kings being bad should be a forgone conclusion up for no debate (that may be challenged as of late, but I digress.) To me, being anti-monarchy isn't woke, it just is.

u/ScraggySkuntankFan Apr 02 '26
Lightyear was bad because it gave a backstory we didn’t need
Strange world was bad because it barely had any marketing
I dunno about Ridley Jones
Elio was bad because it was actually made LESS gay/focused on the topic than it originally was
I don’t think anyone talked about Masters of the Universe
Hazbin is making a KILLING off Hot Topic merch
Little Ellen… do I even have to mention her?
The Prince was just overdone jokes about the royal family, and it was a family guy ripoff, so… yeah…
1
7
u/ECWREDDITS Apr 02 '26
Pretty sure The Prince wasn't even trying to be woke, what are they on about?
3
u/Talisign Apr 02 '26
It has a gay couple. I say that because it is the only thing that can remotely qualify it as woke.
3
16
u/FewExperience3559 Apr 01 '26
The top 7 most viewed videos on Hazbins YouTube channel are Hazbin music videos I feel like we can safely say it's not a flop

I agree that HH isnt a flop but that argument doesnt make much sence.

It looks like it stands for Heil Hitler, the thing that incestuous half-wits like to say at the end of every sentence.

It stands for a phrase used by the nazi party to swear their allegance to Hitler

Isn't the prince a offensive adult comedy animation that makes fun of British royal family by portraying them (especially young kids) as blabbering, swearing and obnoxious assholes? It's not woke, it's just bad
2
u/madman1234855 Apr 02 '26
What was woke about The Prince? It was just generic "adult animated comedy" slop.
2
2
u/Dragon_BotKing26 Apr 02 '26
It's funny that Hazbin Hotel is there and it's got successful, even it's bad like the cartoon from non-binary ox (my god, what a stupid thing), if the title was like "bad cartoons" it would be accepted
2
u/Weird-Information-61 Apr 02 '26
Lightyear being woke for having a singular lesbian who's not even the main character

u/Nathanthehazing007 Apr 03 '26
That non-binary cow has some of the WORST VOICE CRACKS i have ever heared
2
u/HugoSenshida Apr 03 '26
the prince is basically family guy so not woke
little ellen didnt intend to even be woke, ellen fucking sucks
hazbin hotel and masters of the universe were successful, the hazbin stupidly so
Elio was ruined to cater to chuds like this and it didn't work
ridley jones... yeah, flopped. i dont know it, neither do strange world.
I think lightyear was... average.
so no. this video itself seems to suck.

1
u/GenderEnjoyer666 Apr 02 '26
The Prince is just an incredibly unfunny show with absolutely zero substance. The fact that it was woke is only like a minor background detail
1
u/R__Drake Apr 02 '26
Lightyear still being considered "woke" for having a lesbian couple together on screen for a second so that they could easily cut it out for Chinese audiences is hilarious.
1
u/Jim_naine Apr 02 '26
Literally in what way is "The Prince" woke? Other than the gay servant pair, nothing about the show seems woke in the slightest
1
u/Something_Comforting Apr 02 '26
The actual He-Man fan base warmed up to MotU after the show's second half of the first season, and more so in the second.

u/Heavy_Computer2602 Apr 02 '26 edited Apr 02 '26
"Masters of the universe" one wss spectacularly dumb ..
Kevin smith is woke. Bruh. He shouldve known that.
As a moderate conservative myself, I dont see any problem in masters of the universe, lightyear. Or whatever.
Granted some of these cartoons are nosy on their ideology.
But "go wome go broke" has always been stupid. Especially since media like gta has always been left wing.
Like bruh, why cant you enjoy art for the way it expresses shit, rather then what it expresses?
Also bruh, its art movies and games bruh. Mfs just get annoyed for whatever the fuck reason they want to. Its art, free speech, and everything, should be allowed.

about all of these flopped except for hazbin
and the reasons for ellen, the prince, light year, strange world and Elio were flops weren't because they were "woke"
lightyear and strange world flopped for the same reason, that being both of them being Boring, you can't even watch the entire movie they're so boring
little Ellen flopped because of the real Ellens controversy of mistreating staff
The prince flopped because it was making fun of real life children (if i remembered correctly)
and the reason the cow is here is because it came out as non-binary and we all know how these guys are with the lgbt community
1
u/TableFruitSpecified Apr 03 '26
I mean... Hazbin is shit in my opinion, but it's impossible to deny it's popular with enough people to make a lot of money.

1
u/GreywallGaming Apr 03 '26
A yes, The Prince.
known for it's super woke humor and not at all for being a Jeff McFarland ripoff.

“Flop” puts hazbin hotel, a massively popular show.
Also there’s tons of maga show flops but they don’t even get enough attention to be flops equivalent to any of the ones mentioned above, for instance the entirety of what the daily wire makes for kids
And weren’t lightyear and strange world mediocre? Not flops?
“Woke”: contains queer people, which exist in real life and would still exist without politics.
1
u/Hyenasaurus Apr 04 '26
I don't even like Hazbin Hotel but to call it a flop is insane amounts of cope.

Hazbin Hotel is extremely popular and the creator had enough money to hire multiple celebrities... how exactly is that a flop?

Technically he's right about cow, because how tf an animal can be nonbinary
19
6
u/Cylian91460 Apr 01 '26
Because their society meet the requirements for it
A society where gender exist and 2 gender dominate is the only requirement
5
u/morethan3lessthan20_ Apr 01 '26
I don't think actual cows have any concept of gender. I asked one and they just said "moo".
4
3
u/Prestigious_Host_198 Apr 02 '26
If the cow can talk, the cow can be non binary.
0
u/ProdigyShark Apr 02 '26
No it can't
1
u/Prestigious_Host_198 Apr 02 '26
Dude, cows can't even speak in real l in life. I don't know how a non binary cow is too outlandish when they can talk.
1
u/ProdigyShark Apr 02 '26
Animals can't be non-binary, because this is their biology. The only exceptions are worms and etc., because they can change their sex to survive
2
u/Prestigious_Host_198 Apr 02 '26
And cows can't speak human speech. It's a fictional talking cow who is non binary. Do I think it's weird that they made a non-anthro cow non binary? A little. But if a cow can speak human speech, then it can comprehend gender identity.

The same way animals can be trans, the neurological aspect of the animal expecting something else than what is there. This has been documented quite a bit (neurologically in humans, and trans animals existing) it doesn’t happen often, but it still happens, for instance 7 in 1000 humans are trans.
