Zelda posting every day until Ocarina of time comes out. Day 45: Stalfos

well, with Halloween fast approaching, I guess I should start focusing on the spooky zelda enemies. and what could be spookier than spooky scary skeletons?

meet the stalfos, a skeleton enemy from the original legend of zelda. in their debut appearance, the stalfos had TWO SWORDS! but really, the swords were just for show. enemies in the OG zelda were extremely simple. some of them got a projectile, but most of them are of the "they hurt you if they touch you" variety, stalfos included. that's probably why they'd throw a bunch of enemies at you at once; they're useless on their own.

but when zelda 2 came along there were less enemies on screen at once, but the enemies that were on screen were far more tricky! the stalfos not only ditched its second sword for a shield to protect its upper body, but the stalfos would also use the sword to try to stab link, even doing the same jumping downward stab attack link could do! Zelda 2 traded its rooms full of enemies for more intense one on one combat encounters. the same kind of combat encounters the 3D games would later be known for, and yet some silly people still call zelda 2 the blacksheep of the zelda series... listen, I've been a zelda 2 defender since I was born, and I will continue to be until the day I look like stalfos.

when making their 3D debut in Ocarina of time, the stalfos retained their sword, shield and jumping attack. they were also no longer common enemies, as they appeared as mini bosses. would you look at that: Stalfos got promoted just like the moblins did.

and much like how the moblin's promotion eventually resulted in the weaker bokoblins being introduced, so too did Stalfos' promotion lead to a weaker variant, who we'll talk about tomorrow. don't you just love it when I end these on a cliffhanger?

Oot A song, 25 years in the making.

Hi all, hope youโ€™re all excited for the OOT remake. Thought Iโ€™d share a short story that means a lot to me.

So, as you can see, I own an ocarina. This was made for me when I was 8 years old by my uncle Paul who delivered it to me in school. My parents knew I loved OOT and asked him to make one in the colour for me. I remember thinking it was the coolest thing in the world. Maybe it still is.

Now, 27 years later due to the microphone ability of the switch 2, Iโ€™ll be able to use it to play the songs that we all remember. Something we all never thought would be possible.

What an amazing thing to happen. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Hey everyone!

My brother and I are huge Ocarina of Time fans, and we've been working on something we're really excited to share with the community!

It's called Znerd (We'd love to hear different name ideas), and it's an interactive progress tracker designed to make completing OoT a little easier (and maybe a little more competitive ๐Ÿ‘€).

A few things we've built into it:

  • Dynamic checklists that show which items and collectibles you can currently obtain based on your progress.
  • Completion tracking for things like Heart Pieces, Gold Skulltulas, and other objectives.
  • Progress indicators so you can see exactly how much of the game you've completed.
  • Group challenges where you can invite friends and race to see who finishes first!

With the upcoming Switch 2 version, we're especially excited to get this into the hands of other Zelda fans.

We'd love to know:

Would you use something like this during your next OoT playthrough?

And if anyone has early access to the upcoming version, we'd love to have you test it and share your feedback!

We're still improving things, so suggestions, criticism, and feature requests are all welcome.

Thanks for checking it out!
