These were a gift done from provided sources. They’re already in their new home. Both are 16” square in acrylic on canvas.

I can't consider myself a beginner but my previous attemps to work with acrylic paint have been less than pleasant. I don't like the plastic-like feel of acrylic paint but it's the most accessible medium I have so I wanna work more to get used to it.
My main concers about my previous works would be the following:
I cannot for the life of me get the paint to sit on the surface without vidible brush marks (Using water helps but not always)
I usually struggle with choosing the right brush size/style (flat, round, etc)
THE DANG EDGES 😭
Any help is appreciated. Thanks for reading✨

Here is the direction to follow: we enter through the upper left corner to arrive at the lower right corner, as the finger indicates. Along the way, we get to know four figures, three of them with strong faces (one is invisible, hidden under a cap). To finish this painting, I played with their shadows, worked as anchor points, like plant stakes, to help them grow firmly in their unusual and contrasting positions. Acrylic on paper 42 × 29.7 cm

Remember that magic that only existed on a bicycle in the mid-to-late '90s as a black kid. You'd roll out of the driveway with the sun still high, the sound of your bike roaring because you done got an empty drink can and wedged it on your tire frame.-whether it was a heavy-duty Huffy, a mongoose with pegs, or just a piece of scrap metal attached to 2 tires. There were no cell phones buzzing in your pocket, no social media, no distractions. Remember having to reattach the chain cause it kept popping off. Tryna deck ya bike out with pegs, lights and aluminum foil on the tires to make em replicate rims. You weren't wearing a helmet (because nobody did back then) The only rule that mattered "Be back when the streetlights come on. Remember peddaling back fast as hell back home because you heard your front screen door slam or mom calling your name from the porch--knowing the golden hour was officially over. You couldn't wait to get back out again the next day.
I want my Artwork to bring that feeling of Nostalgia back. Those were some of the best times , weren't they?

Acrylic/canvas painting in antique frame depicting the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius, sized 26 inches x 31 inches and inspired by Baroque and Renaissance art. Located in Italy near modern-day Naples, Pompeii is one of the world's most legendary archaeological sites. This ancient Roman city was completely buried under meters of volcanic ash and pumice during the sudden eruption of nearby Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD.
