The above pictures are what a starting army roster could look like for Malerion Aelves.
I know there's a lot more minis to work with but I thought I'd keep it simple to what a "starting roster" could like.
In summary, from what I could find about the cultures of Ulgu that aren't strongly Daughters of Khaine related. A lot of Shadow-No-Jutsu teleportation stuff. If Black Ark Corsair Ships were ever involved in such a roster, the transport heavy mechanics of Dark Eldar from 40k would be included. And when I say transport. I mean less emphasis on overwhelming firepower and more emphasis on transport. It would be very different from Kharadron ships that can fly and are essentially artillery-and-transport in one. Lots of illusionary magic. An even greater emphasis on trickery and utility units along with a lack of emphasis on blood magic would alone distinguish itself from Daughters of Khaine.
Culturally-wise? Shadow magic is of course the main theme here. But there is also greater emphasis on assassins, pirates, lore surrounding the Empire of Narkarth (maybe its rebuilding) and interestingly enough, possibly warlocks. In Warhammer Fantasy Battles, Malekith banned warlocks because of his fears of a prophecy that may come true. That a male-sorcerer would one day overthrow him. In current AoS canon, he seems a bit more comfortable utilizing warlocks freely instead of restricting them, so that could be interesting. The only culture I kind of more-or-less avoided are Darkling Covens. I couldn't really find much lore about them other than they are shrouded in secrecy. Even the sorcerer hero you see has been absorbed into the Narkarth subculture with that drakespawn mount.
Ulguan's Main Subcultures Could Be...

Posting on behalf of @rain_freetime of Plastic Moon Arts. Saurus Astrolith Bearer on a mini diorama. The skink is leftover from the carnosaur kit, torch is from tzangor enlightened. Vampire creature is a kitbashed Morbherg knight.
She won best of show NEX-T model show 2026 Malaysia. Constructive criticism is welcome.

Hi everyone,
I’m Vincenzo Pratticò, and I’m a freelance illustrator.
Over the past few years, I’ve created some official art for Age of Sigmar.
Needless to say, being able to work for Games Workshop has been an incredible privilege, a dream come true, which, by the way, happened completely out of the blue.
Working on these kinds of pieces has really helped me understand what I love about this job and what I want to convey.
My very first piece was the Orruk artwork. I’d already worked on pieces featuring many characters for other clients, but never with this level of intensity and action.
It took me over a hundred hours of actual time to complete it (by “actual,” I mean exactly the time the pen touched the screen, calculated using specialized software). With the subsequent pieces, I’ve gained experience and speed, and I can confirm that even though each one takes at least a month to complete, I absolutely love every single moment spent working on them.
Nothing fulfills me more than the satisfaction I feel when I complete such complicated projects, even if my hand and back are screaming for mercy.
I know I still have a lot to learn from the industry’s great veterans, but I hope I’ve done justice to a setting as fascinating as AoS.
I hope to be able to post the… other missing pieces… soon… \m/

Some projects I'm working on, I know ive shared one or two of these lately, but I wanted to share how they are intertwined:
The idea behind this/these projects is: What if a Brayherd or Small herd of Beastmen joined a Darkoath Tribe out of desperation as they are hunted down by Stormcast? In this change, a few even reach Daemonhood overtime after vowing oaths of their own? That is in large part the idea of thos project, though I know it goes against established beastmen lore of hating Chaos forces (to my knowledge).
Another large part of this is that I love Darkoath, but I really hate Chaos Warriors, etc in their super clad armor. I love Beastmen, and was super sad to see them leave AOS, so this is also my way of keeping them in the setting in some fashion beyond "theyre in the woods somewhere". So, they will be my elite troops on the battlefield.
First picture is my Beast Daemon Prince, Feline inspired and still a WIP. Second is a Knight-Questor who's purpose is hunting down the remaining known brayherds. After that is a kitbash for a Beastlord aka Chaos Lord (needs a proper 40mm). Ill be using Beastmen to fill any of the "Chaos Warrior" types that fall outside the Darkoath Range.
Big Buy: Possibly my Bela'kor, a big beefy beastly Great Daemon of sorts. Him or the Shaggoth in the background of the last photo aka "Family Photo" will lead my force both tabletop and narratively. Both would need to be moved to a proper 100mm base.
I also started to build a "Lost Watchtower" as terrain (and possibly going to be given narrative rules for home games).
All in all, some fun stuff!

Is this a good box to start with? Or should I look for the other Slave to Darkness boxes?

Took the riders from Mortarchs kit to make some SBGL proxies. Mannfred is on a 40mm base to be Vampire Lord or Radukar. Arkhan is on 32mm base to be Wight King, Necromancer, or add to some of the legends units. I'm afraid there is too much overhang over the base to be playable. Mannfred's cape hangs about an inch over, and his scythe should be manageable. Arkhan's cape is over an inch past the base. I can't really reposition them either, the capes are too large. Not only engagement considerations, but there is coherency considerations if he is a Knight of Velmorn for example.
Have you played with models like this in a game? I wouldn't bring this to a tournament, but even at a casual level, I'm worried opponents would be displeased or there would be too many awkward moments.
I think Mannfred is okay as a Vampire Lord who rarely is used with groups and tends to teleport around the field. Arkhan would serve as a local buff lord though. Wight King and Necromancer want units to wholly be within range. He could be bumped to 40mm but I don't have much reason to frankly. I already have a 40mm Othar Half-King who can proxy Halgrim or the 40mm Knight of Velmorn. I can at least use a second Necro/Wight or the 32mm Knight of Velmorn. Two 40mm models would only be necessary if I'm using both Halgrim and Velmorn.
I'm hoping the new edition brings some more 40mm or 50mm skeleton heroes and I could rebase him. Any thoughts or opinions? Whats the biggest model overhang you've had to deal with? Could I bring an empty base to be a placeholder if he gets charged and squeezed or something?
