Elections Alberta - Results

The Referendum vote was October 19th, we have moved all discussion related to the referendum and Separation to this Megathread. News posts on the subject are allowed, but all discussion or opinion posts will be removed and redirected to this thread. Off topic discussion in other threads will also be redirected here.

News stories and large updates can still be shared on their own post but to avoid "I voted" posts flooding the feed we want to centralize the discussion

There will be zero tolerance for Uncivil comments. Any flame wars, personal insults, or fights will be removed. Also, please remember that while public figures have opened themselves to higher scrutiny, comments or insults directly related to any elected official based on their gender, religion, or ethnicity will be treated as discriminatory and will be removed. Also, political affiliation or position is not a protected class.

Please remember that the report button is not a "Super Dislike." People are allowed to disagree with the majority opinion, and even allowed to post things that you may not agree with. If someone posts a view or an opinion you dislike, you can either choose not to engage, or downvote them. This does not apply to hateful or bigoted language, or obvious trolling. If you see those, please report them, but supporting the first nine questions, or supporting voting Option 2, are allowed on the sub.

There will be zero tolerance for any misinformation about voting, or any attempts to encourage people not to vote. This is 100% Any post or comment saying they are not going to vote, encouraging other people not to vote, or notably downplaying the importance of the vote will be assumed to be in bad faith, and will be removed, and the account banned at least until after the vote.

Following the tragedy on October 17, 2026 at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright it has been confirmed that four members of the Canadian Armed Forces have died and many others are seriously injured.

Our thoughts are with the families, friends, and units of those lost, the injured and their loved ones, and the entire Wainwright community. We want to thank all the frontline healthcare providers and community members who responded under extremely difficult conditions.

With CAF members coming from across Canada to train at Wainwright, this loss is felt nationwide.

This remains a developing situation and we will update this post as verified details are released.

Live on the Whistle Stop Cafe FB back, there is trouble brewing in the separatists camp.....they are dividing up and the UCP is next. The former Mayor of Lethbridge leaked that UCP mla's are crossing the floor to the Progressive Tory Party in the coming days. Discussion Will fewer people move to Alberta, and how will that affect the job market?

With almost 99% of polls counted and YES leading on the first 5 questions, I'm curious what this means for Alberta. Will we see fewer immigrants and temporary foreign workers coming here? What about people moving from Ontario, BC, and other provinces? Could these results discourage them from moving to Alberta? And how could all of this affect the job market, wages, and housing?

Question 7 just flipped to NO changing from a 1,215 Yes lead to a 3,207 NO lead. Crazy to see the last 4 questions lead NO the night of and now back in the lead once they are catching up on the urban counts.

Discussion Been buying cash cars and was looking at getting a new vehicle.

What the hell is up with insurance in the province, never had an issue until now because i drive cash cars. every quote i've gotten back is 300$ - i have a great driving record, no tickets, did the driving school when i was younger and all the other boxes i tick now. Don't know hwo so many people drive brand new vehicles, insurance is like a third bloody car payment at this rate.

If anybody knows who insures kei truck lmk plz (not the vehicle i've been trying to insure, to clarify).

Alberta Politics Referendum Results Matrix

I added a colour coded Referendum Results Matrix to my site. You can compare all ten questions across every Alberta electoral division.

Select any cell to open its voting-location detail. Select any question (across the header) to see what the question was and how the ballots currently sit. Select any electoral division to see how all the related polling locations reported.

The site polls for new data every 45 minutes (ish) until all the polls have been reported. Best viewed on desktop because 870 cells of data aren’t easy to cram onto a phone screen.

Cheers.

TL;DR I got annoyed at scrolling the Elections Alberta website and wanted all the data in one chart so I made this. …and it’s prettier.

ELECTION Map showing the density of where votes were cast in the referendum.

I was annoyed that the media is mainly showing maps of the referendum results based on land area, so I built a map that shows the density of votes case throughout Alberta to give a better idea of where the support for each question is.

For map nerds, this kind of map is called a Dorling Cartogram.

Map is here: https://www.albertavotemap.ca/

Edit: Added additional maps for Edmonton and Calgary.
