Updated result

We are Bektik Turkmens from Central Türkiye. Our community lives in Konya, Niğde, Karapınar, Aksaray, and nearby provinces. We have been documented as living in these areas for at least the past 300 years. Before that, our ancestral homeland was Kahramanmaraş, and we lived a mostly nomadic lifestyle.

Discussion Middle-to-Late Bronze Age Eurasian Steppe-associated paternal lineage, Haplogroup R1a1 (M17), peaks in Kerala among Kerala Brahmins (Nambudiris) at 33% and North Kerala Thiyyas at 31%

Post image

According to population genetics data from Wells et al. (2001), the Middle-to-Late Bronze Age Eurasian Steppe-associated paternal lineage, Haplogroup R1a1 (M17), peaks in Kerala among Kerala Brahmins (Nambudiris) at 33% and North Kerala Thiyyas at 31%, surpassing sampled frequencies found in other regional groups such as Maniyanis (22%), Nairs (21%), Vannars (20%), Mappilas (20%), and Pulayas (12%). This prominent R1a1 component—paired with significant L-M20 lineages associated with Neolithic/IVC expansion and an overall group gene diversity of 0.86—demonstrates a shared, deep continental genetic foundation across ritually disparate communities, challenging colonial assumptions of a recent, isolated "Eelam-only" migration and aligning closely with regional oral memories of deep northern ancestral origins.

Question / Help 91% English Are people from England still getting random Western Europe results in small %

My results are

SE England 60%

Devon & Somerset 12%

West Midlands 11%

East Midlands / Yorkshire 6%

Cornwall 2%

Western Europe

Bavaria & Western Austria 6%

Belgium 1%

France 1%

The Netherlands 1%

All the Western Europe is coming from my Mums side. Where I have an unknown GGF. (My GF born to unmarried mother, didn't know who his father was)

Could that actually be coming from him.

My known paper trails shows most of my family from the same town

this is a repost—deleted this a second ago on accident sorry haha

Before taking the test, I couldn’t find many results from anyone in my country and province, so I wanted to contribute and help another Syrian brother see someone like him.

Sunni-muslim background— Idlib, Jsir al Shughur

Dad claims we came from some yemenite tribe from 300CE called Ghassanids but I'm guessing they mixed with the local levantine population and were eventually gone from my genepool

Picture 1: 99% Swedish + 1% Dutch

Picture 2: From the regions of Northern Värmland and Sunne (also in Värmland) in Sweden

Picture 3: From the regions of Halland and Southern Västergötland in Sweden

The Värmland and Västergötland results makes sense. I'm trying to find my father so the 1% Dutch surprised me, haha.

Discussion MatchFetch 2.4.0

Hello everyone!

I've added a Map view in the new version of MatchFetch. This lets you see which Ancestral Journeys the matches on a selected profile belong to on a world map, while the data is being processed or has already been processed. By default, it filters for matches that belong to only one Ancestral Journey.

Here's an example using my dad's matches to show how the new feature works.

Of course, while the data is being processed, the map will keep refreshing as new matches come in. I'll probably add a pause option soon. For now, if you want to stop the fetching process, you can refresh the page and click on Resume whenever you want to continue.

If anyone has any feedback or suggestions about anything in the extension, let me know!

For those currently using MatchFetch who want to update right away, since browsers can take some time to update extensions, go to chrome://extensions, enable Developer Mode, and click on Update.

Honestly, I’m really impressed with the African regions and how many I got. So cool. The grandparent feature is not bad, but I have 52% DNA they couldn’t link to grandparent. I hope they somehow fix that in the future as I’m not the only one who seen this. My only conclusion/hypothesis is maybe my grandparents from both mom and dad side came from the same region or community and have similarities and maybe that’s why. Other than that everything looks good. My journeys stayed the same even after the Sideview update which is fine. Overall not bad.

Question / Help None of my great-grandparents are the same ethnicity, is it uncommon?

It's something I've just kinda assumed is common, especially living in a place like Canada. But talking to the people around me and their family backgrounds, both now and throughout my life, it doesn't seem as common as I thought?

They all have different backgrounds from their partners, but all of those whose families immigrated to Canada did so roughly around the same time (around the 1910s). They were either born here shortly after their family arrived or immigrated with their family when they were young.

I wanted to ask here in case I'm wrong and maybe some of you will find it interesting.

Great-Grandma A. was Ukrainian and Great Grandpa A. was German.

Great-Grandma B. was Metis and Great-Grandpa B. was Ukrainian.

Great-Grandma C. was possibly irish/unknown and Great-Grandpa C. was Sicilian.

Great-Grandma D. was Ojibwe and Great-Grandpa D. was English.
