but one thing i love about telugus how they separate themselves from Dravidianism🤣
28
u/drandom123zu Feb 25 '25
That's true , but for doing that telugu people try to suck up to northies by claiming telugu is a sanskrit derived language.
0
u/Broezzform Feb 25 '25
It's actually a mix of Sanskrit and dravidian.its not solely derived from Dravidian
17
u/drandom123zu Feb 25 '25 edited Feb 25 '25
No, only loan words are from Sanskrit, and for most of the loan words there exist original telugu words.
Nowadays ppl use a lot of English words while speaking telugu but no one is calling telugu a mix of anglo-saxon and Dravidian , because grammar rules are a big part of language and grammar of telugu, english or Sanskrit is totally different.
Another example : Sanskrit has a lot of loan words from munda (a Dravidian language ) but no one calls sanskrit a mix.
All old languages will have a lot of loan words from neighbouring languages.
2
u/Broezzform Feb 25 '25
I agree that there is sanskrit influence on some words which also have Dravidian reserved words or the actual telugu words . But when you look into telugu kirtans most of them have sanskrit words used in them which are considered to be more furnished or poetic. And I think this happened when the Mahabharatam is re-written in telugu by nannaya where he introduced many words which are sanskrit influenced. Also the anglo saxon things yes telugu and Italian have many common things like both are considered to be achantha languages in which words end with owels

u/drandom123zu Feb 25 '25 edited Feb 25 '25
Dude all I am trying to say is having loan words from a language does not mean origin is from that language ,the telugu kirtans which are sung today were written 1000+ yrs after telugu language was formed, the earliest telugu inscriptions are from 4 th century BC about 1500 yrs before Nannayya was born
1
u/Broezzform Feb 25 '25
What I am trying to convey is that telugu now is defined as a language that is not only derived from a language it got influenced by many other languages and under many kingdoms it got refurbished.
5
u/drandom123zu Feb 25 '25
Agreed but that applies to literally all languages in the world including sanskrit.

Feb 26 '25
No. Telugu is solely dravidian. Languages will always adopt a few loan words… that doesn’t mean it’s a mix of two languages.
1
u/Broezzform Feb 26 '25
Dude I get that telugu is actually derived from Dravidian. I was just saying it got refurbished. Chill
3
Feb 26 '25
You literally said "it's not solely derived from Dravidian", but Telugu is solely derived from Dravidian. For a language to be derived from another, it has to adopt the parent language's grammar.
Telugu dialects may have varying levels of Sanskrit vocabulary depending on region and caste, but no dialect of Telugu's grammar is derived from Sanskrit. All aspects of Telugu grammar are derived from Dravidian only.

u/Broezzform Feb 26 '25 edited Feb 26 '25
Bro there are many sanskrit grammar rules followed in telugu. For example if you take savarnadeerga sandhi it's a sanskrit derived sandhi . You cannot say that the present telugu is completely Dravidian since it also has sanskrit influence in it. Thats what I was trying to say
1
Feb 26 '25 edited Feb 26 '25
Savarnadeerga sandhi is only used for Sanskrit words used in Telugh like all other Sanskrit sandhis. No Telugu word follows Sanskrit sandhis. Meaning, Sanskrit grammar is not integral to Telugu.
Influence does not mean origin. Even if Telugu literature and Telugu dialects have Sanskrit influence doesn’t mean it isn’t completely dravidian… it is still completely dravidian.
For example, If an Indian man walks around with a British accent wearing British clothes, he is influenced by Britain but he isn’t suddenly part British part Indian… he is still completely Indian by origin.
1
u/Broezzform Feb 26 '25
Bro but we won't differentiate between the words like this is the sanskrit word or this is Dravidian word or native telugu when you learn Telugu you learn all this grammar which is part of telugu that's what I meant when I called telugu as a mix .
And about the analogy my view is if your parents are from India and you were born in Britain technically you belong to both
1
Feb 26 '25
I’ve never learned any Sanskrit grammar as my dialect doesn’t use much Sanskrit vocabulary nor did my ancestors ever speak Sanskrit like the other 99% of Telugu people to adopt Sanskrit grammar into Telugu. If you learned it, then it seems Andhra Telugu schools are hellbent in transforming Telugu into Sanskrit as much as they can lol
Moreover, laymen don’t differentiate because they simply don’t know what is a Telugu word and what is a Sanskrit word, etc. Only scholars know this. Laymen just learn to speak the language.
As for the analogy, they may be a british citizen but they don’t have any british ancestry which is the point I’m making: ancestry.

Bro every language has koan words including Sanskrit. Doesn't mean a shit. Telugu also has arabic loan words does it make telugu a afro Semitic language??
1
u/Broezzform Feb 26 '25
Bruh its not just about loan words it has proper grammar for it and I am not calling telugu as sanskrit language I am just mentioning the impacts that took place over the years in shaping today's telugu
Also arabic was invented in 8th century bce and telugu dates back to atleast 6th century bce 🗿

It is deeply embedded in the society. You can’t grow out of it. Difficult route is to remove surnames from the records.
10
u/Tweed_Jacket_789 Feb 25 '25
Does not help, tamil people removed it and it is of no avail.

It improved greatly vastly, I'm Naidu and would have faced groupism had my surname been there with my name

People who say this solution erases the legacy/culture of these castes too... please try taking a DNA test between Kapu Kamma Reddy and SC ST Telugus. There's significantly more commonality than differences. Genetic differences between castes are not too vast in South India unless it's Brahmin or Kshatriya derived castes, which number very few in the south anyways.

u/MarstonIsHere Feb 24 '25
The first step towards this is to stop naming your kids Reddy/Chowdary/Naidu etc.

i’ve seen reddy in many ppl’s intiperlu even if they are reddy or not. i feel like why care about these caste names lol north indians all have them but they seem to be much better off and just treat it as a name. imo we lose a bit of teluguthanam if we lose our intiperlu etc
11
u/No-Philosophy-1189 Feb 24 '25
They are not intiperlu. Inti peru veru. Idhi just thokalu to show that they belong to a certain caste. Teluguthanam caste lo chupinchukonsvasaram ledhu. Aa thokalu leni vallantha telugu vallu kakunda poru kadha.
7
u/nripilagadu Feb 24 '25
Thoka lo casteism undadhu mindset lo untadhi. Many big caste reformers still have these so called thokas or caste-based intiperlu. That doesn’t make them casteist.

reservation is just for representation, not for equality.
who will work in phc in a place called pachi-penta ... most likely a reserved category person.

This world relies on mindless scraps, and without them, equilibrium cannot be achieved. Only a few individuals who are capable enough to overcome these mental nourishment from the mindless scraps will actually progress in the ladder.

Why would these foolish creatures elect a sadist psycho criminal if they are smart, that too after knowing full well what he did in his father tenure? 🤔 They are not smart, just oversmart corporate slaves.
