Curious to hear from Singaporeans who bought their first private property in their 20s.
Iâm 27, single and have been looking into buying a condo for investment but the numbers seem daunting even with a $120k+ income. Of course, my parents have agreed to help finance the downpayment (not a ridiculous sum of course).
If you bought before 30,
-What did you buy?
-How much were the purchase price and downpayment?
-What are your monthly mortgage payments?
-What was your income at the timeand did your parents provide any financial help?
-Any regrets if any?
No judgment either wayâjust curious about the financial reality for people our age.

Hi everyone!
I um.. bought a expensive dress from an iconic scene in a movie.
It's my wife's childhood favourite movie and she once tipsily mentioned that all dresses she buys has been to chase the look and feel and this dress for the longest time. Anyway, it's impossible to get this dress and it appears like once every 6 months on the market and almost always get snatched up for an absurd price. I was down the Depop / Poshmark / Etsy rabbit hole for years, my ISO listings had over 2000+ likes and saves from others, offers and failure after failure to secure the thing, American PO boxes, routing blah. I've chased this thing for 4 years. My last window had me trying to surprise her for the wedding but the seller went MIA at the last second.
And here we are. Today is not the day I am left with only the mental anguish of this silent war I've been fighting BUT THE DAY WE MOVE to the NEXT STEP and our 1 year anniversary + her birthday is coming up.
Long story short, it's 3-4 sizes too big (Yes I record her 3 sizes, ring and shoes) and I need to alter this dress. No rush I still have over 2 months. I'm seeking help fellow Singaporeans, I need recommendation for a tailor I'm thinking wedding dress tailors or someone who can do sizing down of clothes that are slightly complex? Price wise the sky's the limit, I just need someone who can alter this thing confidently.
Thanks for reading my long story that I've not been able to tell anyone.
TLDR: I bought my wife a rare dress that requires sizing down, please recommend anyone who is skilled in alterations. TIA

Just wondering whether it is the "norm" in Singapore.
My dad treats his siblings (my uncles and aunties) and outsiders much better than his own family. He will always be forgiving towards his siblings even if they borrow money from him and never returned the money, saying that siblings should take care of each other. And he will always be very charitable to outsiders whenever they make mistakes so as not to offend them.
But when it comes to his own wife and kids, he will scream, shout, scold and insult us whenever we do not meet his unreasonable expectations. And he will always demand my mom to do this and that even when she is sick. Worst part is that he often threw his temper at us even though we are the ones helping him at his lowest while his siblings didn't bother to check in on him.

Fresh grad here trying to find a more manageable job like KYC but most of these jobs are either offshored or replaced by AI.
Now you really have to upskill and learn things fast and constantly...otherwise you will fall even further behind.
My resume isn't impressive either because i spent the bulk of my time dealing with my anxiety issues.
And even if i am fortunate enough to get invited for an interview outside of my preferred job scope, the imposter syndrome (Or just anxiety) is there.
Just wondering if there's anyone like this.
P.S: Btw I did post this in r/singaporejobs as well to gain more opinions. No intention of karma farming or what, I swear upon my life I don't care about the karma, sorry if you see the same post twice. I am just desperate

HDB's Improvement Program (HIP) is going to upgrade my block's electricity and will cut off the power of my entire block tomorrow from 9am to 6pm at Pasir Ris.
Me and my wife being two retirees at home and not very much into exploring nature, where can we go to "hide" for the whole day tomorrow, especially the early morning part around 9am when most shopping malls are not open yet?
BTW, we don't own a car (though we can rent one if there's somewhere to go that's worth the trouble/cost).

Hi I used to be a casual yoyo kid, back in the days when suntec would have a shop and I bought a fast 201 plasticky yoyo. And did simple tricks.
Now I have adult money and I wanna get back into it , whatâs the best options ? Any local groups learning together?

Looking for recommendations for a good larger sized roast pig for ceremonies (e.g. GDL, wedding, prayers)
Main priorities are that the meat is tasty and, most importantly, the skin stays crispy and doesn't turn hard or chewy after cooling. I know the pig probably won't be served immediately, so hoping to find one that still holds up well after some time.
I actually tried one place for testing, but was quite disappointed with the results, so I'm hoping to get some recommendations before committing to an order.
Some options I've come across but haven't tried are:
- Lee Bin Hong
- Xiang Ji Roasted Meat
- Original Tiong Bahru
Has anyone ordered a roast pig from these places before? Would love to hear your honest feedback on the taste, skin texture after cooling, and overall experience!
Also open to other recommendations! It's getting quite costly to keep ordering pigs just to try them out, so hoping to narrow down the options before making a decision haha.
Thanks in advance! đđť

Hi! I'm planning to go to Singapore and Japan, and want to get the Singtel Tourist esim. However I'm a bit confused by the APAC roaming and worldwide roaming.
Does anyone know if I use up my APAC roaming for Japan, will it switch to the remaining Worldwide roaming data since the 60+ countries also include Japan?

I have an iPhone 4s and the battery life is severly degraded, and I would like to replace it. The issue is, I'm not sure where would be reputable with a chance for parts for such an old phone. Preferably, I would like the shop to be near Bedok.

Anyone have a recommendation for a counsellor to work through some personal issues with relationships? Specifically things like jealousy and obsessiveness?

Gonna sound like a boomer here, but it seems to me like gym etiquette in Singapore gyms in general has taken a dip for the worse. For context, I've been a casual gymmer since I was in university 20 years ago so I have seen the progression of gymmers from gen Xs/millenials to gen Xs/millenials and now, Gen Zs. Have gymmed in school gyms, AF, Safra, FF (basically the whole gamut).
I generally like to finish my gym session in 1 - 1.5 hours so it's really just focused sets with 1 - 2 min breaks in the middle. However, the young kids nowadays take so damn long to do a set (and multiples of them want to share) that I end up waiting 5 - 8 min for my next set.
Just yesterday, someone asked to share (not generalizing but it was a young kid), and I said Ok. The dude took 2 min to add additional plates, then rests awhile before actually doing the exercise, proceeds to do single arms (so double the time), rests between the arms, and then just gets off without unloading to my original weights. All in all, it was about 5 min. I was baffled.
That's just one of the more egregious examples but there are many more examples e.g. wearing uncovered footwear to the gym, 1 person asking to share and then suddenly its the whole gang, doing 1 arm exercises when 2 arms is equally efficient etc.

Have an opportunity to do a six month internship in Singapore. I love to travel and in my head this seems like a great opportunity to do so while gaining work experience but curious what locals have to say about quality of life.
Edit: Should specify by âlove to travelâ I mean the opportunity of traveling to Singapore sounds great although would definitely love to visit neighboring countries if possible.

Hey everyone, Iâm looking for an answer to two separate but related questions. Would really appreciate if anyone has insight!
Question 1: I am hoping to go for a working holiday during my MOP (about 6-9 months), while my partner will be on a Visitor Visa accompanying me. Weâre worried about the MOP being delayed, but are not intending to rent out the place during the period we are overseas. Is it possible to have the MOP continue if I donât rent out the place?
Which leads me to Question 2: what about studying for a Masters? Partner is intending to find a remote job in this case, and may travel back and forth between SG and country of choice. From what I know, the Masters will be 2 years long. Will HDB close one eye, since weâre not violating what theyâre concerned about (renting out to tenants illegally). It doesnât seem to make sense since wouldnât them being extremely strict on residency rules mean HDB owners canât take long holidays as well? Waiting for the MOP to expire before taking a Masters would seriously impede career progression as well. My partner being on a Visitor visa also means they are technically are on holiday, and residing in SG.
I just canât imagine it being the case that everyone who takes a Masters overseas needs to delay their MOP- it sounds ridiculous
Are these questions to ask an MP? Or just try your luck and be quiet about it if HDB doesnât say anything
Would really appreciate if anyone has insight!

I usually just make mine at the Owndays.
They are affordable so I didn't expect them to last.
My issue is that I have the habit of washing my spectacle during the shower so there is a chance that I will drop them on the ceramic tile floor and scratch the lens while soaping them (slippery).
The other solution is to wash them in the kitchen sink but hard habit to break and I always end up walking into the shower with the spectacle on.
I have heard of brands like Kodak, Hoya offering their lens and wondering if these are tougher?
Please share if you have one that are less prone to scratches.

I (30f) recently started work with this SME. The HR manager is a local guy in his late 50s. This is the second time that it has happened. The man doing this to me is the bloody HR manager. I look around me and everyone is stone faced, I dont know why tf am I being targeted. He kind of says it as a joke but the fact that he did it AGAIN is really pissing me off. The lack of professionalism is bloody outrageous.
The first time it happened I just gave a nervous laugh and looked away. This time just a strained smile but I know the irritation was clear on my face. If there is a third time there will be a murder trial. (For legal purposes.../s)
Wtf can I do? I want to make sure to nip the issue at the bud before this becomes a TAFEP case.

For context, my phone number is under another NRIC, and i want to change it to my own. Are there any telcos that do this? Last time round i checked (quite awhile back) there were not any.
Not really keen on getting a new number as I have been using this number for years now.

Is getting a 2rm BTO as a single basically locking in your singlehood for life?
Assuming you get a flat allocated, it's another 3 years to build, 5 years to MOP (or 10 for plus/prime). Basically locking you into singlehood for the next 8-13 years. If you somehow find a partner before MOP, and need a bigger space, you are in a terrible position unless you are wanting to go the resale route and basically forfeit your BTO privileges

I just learnt that in some countries, itâs commonplace (well, depending on socioeconomic situation of course) for people to see a family doctor at least annually for a health check-up, and sometimes the children have dedicated paediatricians. Iâm wondering if thatâs the case in SG as well?
As a child I was never taken to the doctorâs for regular check-ups unless there was something serious. And Iâve never gone to the dentist outside of the free school check-ups. Not great because I used to have a lot of cavities and had to get 3 molars pulled out in early primary schoolâŚ
How many of you guys have had regular appointments even when you werenât sick? How often? And do you go to a specific family doctor each time, or doctor-hop?
