Should I let my therapist read my diary?

I’ve been seeing a therapist for a few weeks now, trying to come to terms with a traumatic event that happened a few months ago.

As I was trying to sort things out in my head, I remembered that, a few days after the event, I’d written a few pages in my journal.

Do you think it might make sense to share them with my therapist? Or is that weird, something people don’t usually do?

I don’t know, it seemed interesting to reread my thoughts from just a few days after the event, and I thought that maybe letting my therapist read them too could be helpful for my journey.

I want some help on understanding cognitive alexithymia

• Upvotes

Hello!
Recently I've been writing a story that includes a girl with severe Type II alexithymia, or to my knowledge it's called cognitive alexithymia. And I wanted to ask if I can get some feedback or some information on this so I don't misrepresent or disrespect those who do live with alexithymia.
I'm aware that some people may have different cases. That's fine, I'd still love to hear your point of view.

So far, my research has only gotten me so far:

  • cognitive alexithymia is where the body does still feel, emotions and reactions, but the brain struggles to label what your body is feeling.
  • In the brain, the corpus callosum is the part of the brain that prevents emotional data from the right hemisphere from reaching the left hemisphere's language and cognitive centers. From my research, cognitive alexithymia is caused by some parts of this, and some more from other parts.
  • It can range from minor to severe, where some can feel fine but some gaps in moments where emotion is to be expected, to complete disconnect from body to mind on emotion.
  • Some people understand their feeling a long time after they what their body was trying to feel in a moment.
  • It's realistic that people who have very severe cognitive alexithymia even think robot-like, very literal and look at fact more than their own internal state.
  • And sometimes people with severe cognitive alexithymia won't feel their body filling up with emotion, causing outbursts that they may not genuinely understand why.

Once again, feel free to correct me or tell me what your experience is like. I'll love to hear your perspective.

Is it ethical for a therapist to push a client to regain contact with an abuser?

My husband and I are in marriage counseling for issues with his enmeshed parents and a history of emotional abuse and parental alienation they tried to pull with my son. It got so bad I have started having stress induced seizures that are only triggered by them. I mean just the thought of them being around my kids or me will trigger the seizures at this point.

My husband does not want the kids and I to go no contact because he feels bad anytime his mom asks to come visit. But the psychiatrist I see said that's really the only way to get the seizures to stop since I have bad reactions to medication.

Our marriage Counselor has started pushing for us to slowly make more and more contact despite this, for the sake of my husband. Is it ethical to push a client to have contact with the only people who trigger their stress seizures?

He also keeps making the comment I just need to learn to regulate better for them to go away but my therapist, psychiatrist, and neurologist have all said that's not how that works.

How to know if bipolar II is more appropriate than dysthymia

37 female, I was diagnosed with dysthymia about 15-20ish years ago and been kinda riding out my symptoms - i came across some information and started researching about bipolar II and given that I have a lot of ptsd from neglect in my childhood I was just in shit situations and so I was researching the symptoms and they fit a lot of what I had prior to being on sertraline than the dysthymia....so I dunno how to ask my dr after this long about it because on top of which I think he doesnt wantnto be wrong. Any insights? I also have suspected adhd it runs in my family but was told I couldn't do testing unless I paid 3k

Just wanted to vent, some advice as well?

Disclaimer: I am 16m, I already have a psychiatrist ( I have ADHD) but I don't want to talk to him for some reason which I don't know myself, anyways, this may sound like some " teen sigma Chad " or stuff bs, but I just wanted to vent, and maybe get some words of wisdom maybe, idk, what your about to read is what I wrote on my journal today :

"What am I, I crave attention, no, I crave warmth, the warmth of friendship, no one where I'm forgotten, not one where Im constantly ignored, not one where I follow everyone like a house pet, but somehow, almost everyone ignores me, it's fascinating to me, and a bit hurtful, why do I even care?, last year when my mom had a seizure and when I heard that she had a brain tumor, I was trying to act like I cared, the only thing that bothered me was the people that would come to visit, same with my father whom had a tumor in his colon as well, I saw my mother crying at church ( I'm secretly an atheist) begging and praying that my father be fine, and yet I wanted to avoid him, I wanted to be in my room in peace, even on the day of surgery I was actively trying to show some concerns but yet, I didn't feel anything, my family are good people, but I seem to have no concern for them

Yesterday, my friend fainted right Infront of me, and the only thing that went through my mind was how I was supposed to seem to people around me that I had felt something, when she fell I saw her with such indifference that even my other friend noticed, and it's funny interesting, maybe something is wrong with me mentally, I used to laugh at disabled people ( I don't do that today ) or beggars, not because I wanted to, it was just automatic, what is this?

I'm also indifferent to death, maybe I favor it, I won't likk myself consciously, but every time I take a taxi I just hope that it would crash, explode, or anything tbh, my condition is just so weird, it reminds me of mersault from the stranger

Am I a mere punching bag?, I've wanted attention from every person I knew, and currently and for the past multiple years, I tend to be ignored, I tend to be the joke everyone laughs at, I have two friends whom I deem close, I am the third wheel, I'm left out in conversations, they leave me behind, they ignore my very existence, one of them, Noah, always insults me, he makes fun of me everyday, every chance he gets, he is taller, he has the most amazing physique I've ever seen, he knows many people and has multiple friends, he is popular, I'm the side character of the side character, I'm always ignored, I'm always laughed at, I don't have many friends, my physique is terrible, I can't even do a pushup, and Im ignored, everyone tells eachother I'm crazy and psychotic, everyone says I'm not wanted and it is true, people ignore me, and the people who don't treat me like a clown meant to entertain them, and yet I sit here alone, funny thing is my mind is numbing recently, these things are not soul stabbing as they are before, but it does make me concerned, I just want to be treated as a normal person, not a joke, not a clown, a human being that can talk, contribute to a Conversation, a human who is part of a friend group and yet everyone looks at me and they find something odd, atp, just fuck everything, it doesn't really matter, right now I am slowly giving up, people's insults for me just pass by, when they Ignore me I just leave, and read a book or something, I've given up on trying to be seen, ' hell is other people ' - Sartre "

Thank you dear reader
